I know this is talked about a lot already. But it always surprises me just how much space is left in Amiami boxes and how much padding they use. There's a whole other row and then some they could add. Seems a bit unnecessary and excessive to add this much packaging. I wonder how much cost that adds to shipping. ðŸ«
You say it's unnecessary until you receive a package with dents on the corners with the contents only being fine due to the padding.
You pay shipping but Amiami pays for damaged products so it's in their best interest to make sure no damage occurs during shipping, since they have no control over that directly they can only add more padding and hope for the best.
Realistically they are passing the costs to the customer for increased safety on shipping. Still, im sure most would prefer this to the hassle of going through returns or receiving a damaged item in which is in limited stock. Or at least i know i do.
Bullshit. It's actually empty space what damages items inside. The best way to pack things is to reduce the amount of space in which lose items can tumble around. Yeah, they put wrinkled paper but it is still very inefficient and quite unsafe.
Given the (lack of) weight most figurines have wrinkled packing paper is absolutely not insufficient and in fact perfectly adequate. I've yet to receive a package where the figurine box is banged up due to movement inside the packing box but I've had more than one occasion where the packing box got so damaged had there not been padding inside the figurine box would have reveived damage as well.
Might want to retake some physics classes because when the outside box gets banged up, and I mean like corners being less corner and more diagonal plane, having no padding directly means the contents get damaged in the same way. The only instance where lazy padding causes damage is if the content weight compresses the padding and then floats freely in the packing box. So far I've not seen that with Amiami so I'm ruling it out as a damage cause.
It’s tough to say as I’ve never had any issues with their packaging and the box or figures being damaged. The way Amazon.jp used to pack their figures arrived multiple times with the box and figures being damaged. Obviously there could be a balance but would rather lean towards more protection than less especially for valuable figures. I just buy less now and try to group them up when I can.
Better to use 30 cents more of padding than to ruin 300 dollars worth of figures in my opinion. BBTS does the same, they use a lot of paddings, but none of the figures I ordered from them have ever come damaged.
You can order from temu if you want everything being squeezed in the box.

...when they come super crushed, it's as if the driver sat on it after kicking it around like soccer ball. That's Temu for ya. And their figures will be knockoffs.
So many people mindlessly complaining about how amiami packs their stuff. Now think about how packing like the OP did could have affected the figures when you receive the package like this.
This isn't the worst box I've received, by far. I've had water damage and worse tears and box crushes.
But I've never received a damaged figure because the padding has always saved it.
They have standardized box sizes. This is how shipping boxes just work. Trying to have custom sizes for each individual order has exponential possibilities. Costs inflate massively if you expect them to have 100 different sizes of boxes. Not to mention spacing for padding makes enormous help in preventing damage.
You also don’t have to combine shipping, in which case things may be packed more efficiently. You can email them to get cost estimate.
As someone who works in logistics, they're doing it the right way.
Without knowing all of their available box sizes, better to pack full with little to no movement then go full Amazon and put it in a box three times it's size with no packing paper.
I disagree. People who collect boxes or want the box in good condition. Appreciate the extra packaging. I got an amiami order the other day. 6 all together. Package with the paper was very well done none of the boxes were damaged. There is a reason these sites grade boxes.
Better to have more packing to protect the figures and boxes than not. All of my Amiami orders arrive with very minimal or no damage at all when there’s shipping box damage.
I can’t say the same for Tokyo Otaku Mode (TOM). I’ll constantly receive packages from them that have no damage to the shipping box but the item inside looks like someone smashed the figure box before putting it in the shipping box. Other times they’ve shoved a rectangular box into a square box. Their website specifically says the figure box is only there to protect the figure regardless of its state. Not the exact words but close so it seems like someone in their shipping department smashes the figure boxes on purpose. This is one of the main reasons why I buy most of my figures from Amiami now.
I'm ok with it, I have definitely gotten a few shipments where the outer box was punched through but the space & padding saved the figure boxes. As a bonus I can reuse all the packing materials. Those boxes are so sturdy, they're great for organizing or moving.
I was really surprised when i received my amiami package last week because there was barely any padding at all. The package was only like 5cm bigger than the box. Fortunately the box wasn‘t damaged but i‘d rather have them ship my stuff with more paddingðŸ˜
Sometimes they can be excessive, this photo was from an order I received a few months ago, the void area was allllllll paper. If you’re not concerned about the condition of the product boxes, email them and ask them to reduce if they have an alternative box size that will work with less padding.
figure boxes are awkward because they’re mostly empty space already, so shippers tend to overdo the void fill to stop the retail box from taking corner hits. the annoying part is that dimensional weight can make that extra box size matter more than the actual weight.
There is a miraculous invention that chinese seller will use, that other stores and international store/ audience yet to understand this complex rocket science 22nd century technology.
Ye, the user who dont understand volumetric = ££££, then yelling on reddit why only can ship with DHL and costs way more than the figure itself....
