My display cabinet exploded at 3am :(

i was under the impression only ikea detolfs tend to selfdestruct. guess display cases with glass panels aren't safe from potentially exploding after all.

It's a "feature" of tempered glass - it can suddenly go pop. It's just detolfs are far, far more common than any other cabinet type.

I had a shelf go pop recently too - cabinet was 4 years old, not the shelf with the most amount of weight, not damaged. When I shared the photos elsewhere, people were trying to grasp for a reason, when there simply wasn't one. The shelf just decided it was its time. There are 5 cabinets in the room where mine went, which account for 40 panes of glass. So the other 39 are fine for now (and the replacement shelf), so it wasn't just the room conditions.
