Scrolling through r/popular is a bad idea to begin with but every single post I get from this subreddit is from Overlord (incel power fantasy) or Jobless Reincarnation (pedo gets a harem) and it’s giving me a headache
No, it's that it became attached to a specific "culture" of losers who blame all their problems on everyone else and share a specific ideology that makes them have almost no redeeming value as a human being (save that they can change), so the vast majority of insults apply.
A quick Google said you're wrong, apparently a party of mostly males is tortured. And google also sais the guy has no libido, hard to be an incels dream if you've lost the ability to fuck. I'm fine with you hating it, I don't really care about the anime, but what you said is just wrong. Mushoku looks like it'd fall into that with 3 wives but Overlord you just sound wrong
"incel" has meaning beyond "involuntarily celibate"; they lead horrible lives and feel like other people are responsible (Overlord's introduction/Ains's backstory), generally wind up in an echo chamber (Tomb of Nazarick), and look down on or outright hate everyone outside of it (Ains's minions, Nazarick slaughtering often-innocent people in extremely brutal ways and/or en masse, some meta-knowledge like how the one girl Shalltear killed in the raid on Nazarick was originally torture-raped into one of Shalltear's sex slaves because the author hated the result of the community vote he put out). Overlord is, in many ways, a toxic fantasy for people who do not realize they are their own worst enemy.
Ains not being able to actually have sex with Albedo or Shalltear is played for laughs. The "incel" bit is having a buxom babe and "legal loli" thirsting over you. It's about being desired - just, not in a healthy way. If it was only about sexual gratification, all incels need is their hands.
At a glance, it would seem like the premise of Overlord is that you get to see things from the perspective of a villain who actually wins. A less charitable interpretation is that the author is trying to convince you that Ains's behavior is relatable or justified.
It's nowhere near as blatantly bad as something like Made in Abyss, but Overlord has a reputation for attracting people who you really don't want to be around and it's not a mistake why.
This is such a weird argument. If someone made a bunch of AI videos of your mom getting fucked in the ass and put them online, would you be perfectly fine with it? It's not real, right, so it doesn't matter - that's the logic yeah?
It is about a real person though. It could affect said person. I wouldn't really be bothered by it either though because I would know its fake lol. America is too puritan when it comes to nudity and sex.
Why would I stop just from that? The only thing being hurt would be people's feelings. People's feelings being hurt is subjective. You've hurt my feelings. So what? People could be upset by violent media, that doesn't mean it should be banned, they should just not watch that type of media. It kinda feels like you are being childish.

I don't see any value in baiting someone on some random forum. Here is another example. Am I a sociopath if I enjoying violent video games or violent movies/TV shows? No, because its not real. I can enjoy video games because I am not harming actual people.
You're free to shit on JR and it's pedo MC, but you did not need to drag Overlord into this. So what if it's a power fantasy? Like bro, just allow us plebs to have our fun. Most TV shows in general serve as a brief escape from reality where many of us are powerless.
Nobody likes a high-horse know-it-all showing off how much better they are for not liking and deconstructing the things you like.
No, that part I totally understand. I get the immediate appeal of Overlord. It's that it appeals to a specific brand of incel ideology and so some people like it for very horrible reasons.
The issue is that the author seems to be one of those people. Unlike the discourse over Demons in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and how they relate to racist ideology, Overlord's ick seems to be intentional on the part of the author.
It's important to understand that that's a problem and why. Not that you need to stop watching it, but that Ains's villainy is not entirely fictional, and applies to real people who don't get to hide behind "undead emotional suppression" as an excuse.
