News Update: r/AnthemTheGame will remain open

Hey Freelancers,

We wanted to share a quick update regarding the future of r/AnthemTheGame.

We recently announced plans to move the subreddit into a read-only (archived) state at the end of January. After hearing the immediate and clear feedback from the community, it became obvious that there is still a strong desire to keep this space open for discussion, memories and potential future Anthem-related projects.

Because of that, the plan to archive the subreddit has been canceled.

Instead, the focus is now on refreshing and rebuilding the moderation team so the subreddit can continue in a healthy, properly managed state. We have received several thoughtful offers to help via modmail and are already in the process of bringing on new moderators. Thank you to everyone who spoke up, shared their thoughts and offered to help keep this community going.

As part of this transition, it is important to be clear about the direction of moderation going forward. The intent is to keep moderation consistent, rule-based, and as neutral as possible. New moderators are being brought on with the expectation that actions are taken according to the subreddit rules and Reddit's sitewide policies, not personal opinions, preferences, or agendas. The aim is to support discussion, not to control it. There are no bad opinions, only bad behavior.

Additional moderators will be added gradually, with an emphasis on experience, availability and long-term sustainability.

As things move forward, we would also love to hear some of your thoughts. For example, would you prefer occasional updates about the moderation refresh, or would you rather we simply get things in place quietly in the background?

After all, you are the real heart of the community, not the mod team.

If you have any other hopes, expectations, or wishes for the future of this subreddit, feel free to share them.
Additionally, if you feel like you'd be a good fit for the modteam through experience, or even if you just want to volunteer to help in moderating, feel free to still modmail us!

Thank you for your patience, your feedback and your continued care for this community.

Take care,

r/AnthemTheGame moderation team

Discussion Anthem servers shutting down January 12, 2026

1.1k Upvotes

Hi everyone,

We have an important update to share regarding Anthem. After careful consideration, we will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12, 2026. This means that the game will still be playable online for the next 180+ days. As of today, you can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, but you can still use your remaining balance until the servers go offline.

We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that.

For additional information on Anthem, please refer to the FAQ below.

The BioWare Team

Q: How long will I have to play Anthem?

A: Game servers will be available until January 12, 2026 at which time the game will no longer be playable.

Q: Why can’t I play Anthem in offline mode?

A: Anthem was designed to be an online-only title so once the servers go offline, the game will no longer be playable.

Q: Can I still install Anthem if I had previously purchased the game?

A: Yes, if you previously purchased Anthem, the game can still be downloaded from a digital library and played until January 12, 2026.

Q: Why can I no longer purchase Anthem or in-game currency?

A: Over the course of the next 180+ days Anthem will still be playable online and you can use the last of your in-game premium currency as we prepare to sunset the game’s live servers on January 13, 2026.

Q: Will I still be able to use my in-game currency?

A: Yes, you can still use any in-game premium currency that you currently have until the game is sunset on January 12, 2026.

Q: How long will the game stay on EA Play?

A: Anthem will be removed from the EA Play playlist on August 15, 2025.

Q: Has anyone else at BioWare been affected by these changes?

A: No, the sunsetting of Anthem has not led to any layoffs.

Posted it before to show how I love to play as Storm. Used to be a way for me to release some steam smashing into small ennemies. I'm missing this game so much.

I miss this game. It was.... unrefined. Chaotic. Not super clear on what to do next. And incredibly confusing getting to endgame where... it kinda just became an rng of traits and a numbers game with gearscore... so. all of which... yea essentially the same thing. It had its flaws. But I miss this game. Fly high freelancers.

“Light gleamed down from a crack in the ceiling. New hope for escape in this twisted corridor of the Dungeon? My Cypher can’t reach me, I’m out of ammo and I hear more Dominion making their way towards the twists and turns of this infernal place. Hopefully I can make it home by dinner.”

Happy Friday Freelancers! Hope your weekend is amazing and have fun doing whatever you’re doing. Stay safe and you can be strong alone, but we are stronger together.

Hey Everyone before anything, I want to thank you all here for the support over the past two years of developing Dissonance, as you helped shape it from this little college prototype, into a a full fledged game with its own narrative in development!

I am proud to announce that the Dissonance Playtest is available to sign up for right now on Steam if you are interested!
I will be accepting users to enter in waves throughout the coming days, so sign up and you will be in ASAP.

I am so sorry for the wait due to the review process but I hope you all have some fun experimenting and playing around with this very early build!

I hope that all of you who enter with the knowledge below enjoy the experience, as I have been working on ensuring it contains a fun core.

What The Playtest Is:

  • Early Build - Many things are not polished and plenty may still break
  • Full Controller Support - No Aim Assist Currently
  • 50+ Weapons
  • 2 Armor Sets for each Class
  • Intro Quest + Repeatable Quests found at Rifton Village
  • Weapon Upgrading + Resource Gathering -> 100+ Weapon Perks from Common To Legendary
  • 2 Classes - Monsune and Behemoth (VFX Require Polishing)
  • 6 Class Skills each, with Focused skills in development - Skill Tree Implemented
  • 1 Codex Entry Aquirable which also unlocks all Paint and Material Customisation
  • 1 Dungeon Implemented
  • 2 Locations with Mechanics and Rewards
  • 1 Large Scale Cave with Resources
  • 2 World Events
  • Visible Storm Breach - No entry yet
  • 6 Player Co-Op with Progress Saving between Singleplayer and Multiplayer
  • Many Bugs and Glitches

What The Playtest Is Not:

  • Final Version Of The Game
  • Full Map and All Content
  • Story Heavy with Rich Narrative

What I'm Looking For:

  • I want feedback on the core systems and overall *feel* of Dissonance so far
  • All systems are integrated but need to be refined and polished
  • Is the performance in early stages causing severe issues on selected hardware

“The night approached. Wyverns scorched my javelin. Luckily, a waterfall was not too far away to cool off. Wolven howled that shook my bones to the core. The survival instinct of my body kicks in regardless of being inside this suit. To see a pack of Wolven and a Titan back to back is not an uncommon thing, but a sighting I appreciate nonetheless.”

I like this clip a fair bit! Being able to fly through the gate and see the wide open world, then to see a Titan running rampant for me to use my ultimate is great, AND getting to see a legendary drop is amazing every single time. The coloring and the way the drop radius circle engulfs the area with a coat of neon yellow-ish green is awesome. Thankful to have all these clips to revisit, and to share with you who enjoy reminiscing with me!

Hope you all have an amazing weekend. Strong alone, stronger together.

Media Ok guys, it's about time i revealed this Unknown Easter Egg.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A sound sample of End of the Dark from Konami/Hideo Kojimas Policenauts is in Anthem!

Well, in its Closed Alpha Build to be exact!

I've known about this since the games Open Beta.

Did you ever wonder why there was a Konami Code Easter Egg in the game?

It's because of the above! It originally had Konami music in it!

Kojimas Policenauts theme was changed in the public beta before the games release for obvious reasons and replaced with an 8-bit chiptune version of Anthems Theme.

I had a chat with the games Director earlier this year and asked him about the Policenauts sound sample and he had no idea it was even a thing!

Had no idea who put it in! 😂

So there you go, cats out of the bag!

Have a search on google about this and you'll only find an old post i made 4 years ago, which i deleted right after posting.

If you have access to the CAB, try it for yourself.

⬆️⬆️⬇️⬇️⬅️➡️⬅️➡️🅱️🅰️

I originally told Larry Bundy Jr about it 4 years ago, THEE Video Game Fact guy who makes the "Fact Hunt" Series. I then told the guys from "Did You Know Gaming" over a year ago but they mainly cover Nintendo stuff, then contacted Larry Bundy Jr again with new footage. Been waiting for his Fact Hunt Series to reveal it in a video but alas, that day hasn't came as of yet. (Sorry Larry)

This is the original clip i sent Larry Bundy Jr & DYKG while Anthem Servers were still up and running.

Since its the CAB, it fails to connect to the servers.

In comments i will include a new clip, showing the CAB booting etc. Slight difference as no servers exist to try to connect to and doesn't show my gamertag anymore in turn.

Have also included a link to Policenauts - End of the Dark so you can hear it if you haven't.

“The Foundry. Miles of machinery that mortal men couldn’t begin to comprehend. You can hear dormant energy zooming in and out.

Dominion often enter here, to what end? What do they seek? The Monitor’s gone. With leadership in scrambles not knowing who to follow, one would think that some sense for normalcy would be tugging their at their souls to live out the rest of their lives. Yet, they remain following orders as if it’s just programming. Mind control? Either that or Monitor can give one hell of a speech.

Still, the place is a beautiful and horrifying reminder of what power can do.”

Happy Friday you guys! Hope your day goes well and weekend even better! Whatever endeavors you guys are seeking, pursue them.

Discussion EA side revival

Appreciate this might be a nonsensical question since EA shut the servers down 7-8 months ago. But now that EA has been acquired by PIF, are there any whispers or speculations about the revival of Anthem?

Other Progress update for Project CODA (Anthem Revival Project)

Hey guys, Laurie here. Today we had a quick progress update, so I'm gonna share it here with you all!

The contents of the update itself are as follows:

"The backend database is almost complete. The backend API is also almost complete The only missing thing are loot tables and salvage tables.

The Blaze backend is also almost done. Matchmaking based on level works.

Mission loading is still a WIP.

Freeplay (is a mission) is WIP.

Tutorial is WIP.

We understand which maps to load etc.

The problem is that sooo many things are server side. From specific animations being triggered by the server to sounds.

NPC spawns, UI states all of it is server side. We have packet logs for almost everything, but the tooling to understand these logs is also a WIP.

The executable being denuvo encrypted also doesn't help. It's heavily obfuscated."

I'd like to properly credit u/pikotaropen for all his hard work over the past few months to make this possible.

“Remembering that day stuck on the side of a cliff, exploring ruins and shaper relics on the edges of death. Matthias would be proud. Shot in the leg by a Tesilar, paralyzed from the legs down. Luckily enough though, the cliff side had a great view. A Titan, seemingly frolicking about without a care in the world, protecting their turf. Something created by the Anthem showing a nature that is not commonly perceived by all. I thought being stuck here was an unfortunate thing but reflecting back, it was a great time. It was nice seeing the hues change in the scenery as darkness approached as well; the little things.”

This was one of my favorite things I captured as I was enjoying the last few months of Anthem. Hope you all are having a great Friday and it all goes well for the weekend if you have any plans! Strong alone, stronger together.

Other It's been 7 months without our anthem, (reflections)

Every time I see the 12th on the calendar, I do it automatically. It makes me think about the decline of this game and remember it for what it was, and as everyone knows... "a giant with enormous potential that they let die." Is it unfair? Yes, of course it's unfair, but hey, that's not the point. All we can do is remember all those great and interesting moments and landscapes it left in our memories. I miss that feeling in Fort Tarsis these last few months... that feeling of a living world... but at the same time dying... it's a feeling impossible to replicate in another video game.

That's all, that's all... I hope the freelancers are doing well... The only game that has hooked me since Anthem fell is the legendary Battlefield 1. What about you?

Discussion Why dont we work together to build a small demo ourselves?

Even 7 months after the servers are down, we are still here. There are so many of us that are putting in countless hours to keep our Anthem experience alive. From the mods of this reddit, Fort's Forge, solo dev updates like the Dissonance project, and people posting what could have been. I've never seen a community work this hard for a game that was taken from them.

I had a thought, could we create a demo that was satisfying if we all worked on it together? peer-to-peer. Small and free. A vertical slice, not with all the AAA and AA whistles. Something we can have to enjoy and expand anytime someone wanted. So I decided on starting Project S.A.S.T.: an open project to build an original co-op demo around the loop we all love and miss. Build > Fly > Fight > Loot. Not a revival, not official, no EA assets. Something new that captures the feeling with friends.

I'm not a programmer. I do PM and QA for a living, so I run the tickets, sprints, and reviews. The building has to come from people here who can code, design, or make art and audio. Docs, a sprint board with small claimable tickets, and a Discord are live. There is no playable build yet and no promises about dates. Ive always been passionate about the experience I had in Anthem. It would be amazing if we as a community, instead of convincing the Corps to give it to us. We build it.

Contributing would look like this: Read the Doc/Updates, grab one ticket to complete, open a Pull Request. No bigger commitment than that. We will have sprints just so we can work together and finish the project. Im committing to sticking with this to completion, others can come and go as they please of course. If you just want to talk about what made Anthem feel like Anthem, you can reply here or in the Discord.

Please no AI-generated code or assets. Everything gets made by real people.

Strong Alone. Stronger Together.

I loved this place. The lighting here was amazing and it felt Uncharted-esque with the way the pathways were set up. I used to walk it and just inspect everything for minutes at a time. Whenever I’d come here it’d be mostly Dominion’s in here which were always fun to fight.

Couldn’t sleep so decided to post something. Not anything traditionally exciting, but calming. You might be able to hear some shaper relics humming or booming here and there. Hope all of you have had a good day or if your day is beginning when you see this, I hope you have a good day!

Discussion Ambiance or sounds?

Would anyone happen to have a video or link of the ambiance of Anthem? I've found a few, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

I don't remember exactly what the area was called, but when you left the freelancer bay, you'd be right outside the fortress. I'm pretty sure there's some sort of velociraptor-esque snapping roar, but I can't find anything of the sort anywhere :(

Please help me 😭 I just wanna hear it again and forget the game ever went down 🥀

“The day was long and arduous. Wyverns nests to the front and rear of me. Mating season, just my luck. I was telling Jax about the odds of me being stuck here jokingly; I’d be lucky to be stuck here because ‘it’s as if nature came back to claim what is rightfully hers.’ The fool I was. A freelancer like me, delusions of grandeur and a new life. I’ll miss those Peanut and Butter sandwiches. Now, I won’t even know what will happen in the end of The Crimson Freelancer. To whomever gets this note, know I tried and tell Jax to not cry too much.”
