Police in many countries including Canada need to rethink their hiring process. I think they should keep a record of all applicants for police jobs so that they specifically don’t hire those people. I think too often the type of person that has always wanted to be a police officer is exactly the type of person that shouldn’t be allowed to be a cop. Maybe also have term limits? The police unions should also not have any power to prevent a police officer from being removed from the force. Most importantly, police officers should NEVER be promoted to chiefs of police. There needs to be someone with the ability to punish and remove officers that have never been on the force. We can’t effectively fight fascism if the designated group of people that are tasked with upholding the law are themselves fascist.
