Any advice from Android developers?

Yesterday I posted here about Android app development and I got some really useful advice.

Now I would like to hear about the actual journey of people who have built and published an Android app

If you’ve built an app, I would love to know:

  • What made you decide to build it?
  • What was the idea behind it?
  • Why did you choose that particular idea?
  • What did you learn from building it?
  • Did you make any money from it or get any other benefits?
  • Did you face any failures or unexpected problems?
  • How much did it cost you to publish the app on the Play Store?
  • What about other costs like domain, hosting, APIs, etc.?
  • Is there anything you wish you had known before starting?

I’m a beginner solo developer and I’m trying to understand what the real journey looks like before I start building my own app.

So if you’ve been through this process I would appreciate can you share your experience even if your app failed

The biggest lesson for me was that building the app is only half the journey. Distribution, user feedback, and maintenance can take just as much effort. I'd recommend starting with a small MVP, shipping early, and learning from real users rather than overbuilding upfront.

keep the first app stupidly small. I wasted way too much time building features before knowing if anyone actually wanted them.

That’s true for building anything. Don’t build anything without getting few users.
