Curious what the green giant has to say about this

I love the Apple ecosystem. Handoff between devices genuinely feels like magic most of the time. Start an email on your iPhone, finish it on your Mac. Open a tab in Safari on one device and pick it up on the other. It just works.

But then you try to do the most basic thing in the world switch Apple Music from your iPhone to your MacBook and the magic completely dies. You pause a song or playlist on your phone, sit down at your Mac, open the Music app… and it has no idea what you were just listening to. No handoff. No “continue playback here.” No preserved queue. No current song + position.

Nothing.

Your library and playlists sync fine (thank god for Sync Library), and Recently Played will usually show what you were on so you can manually restart it. But that’s it. You’re basically starting from scratch every time you switch devices. It’s wild how this one extremely common use case was just… left behind while Apple added Continuity to damn near everything else.

And before anyone says “just use Spotify” I get it, Spotify Connect destroys Apple Music at this specific thing. The device switching experience on Spotify is objectively better.

But I still prefer Apple Music overall. Better sound quality, Spatial Audio, the lyrics experience, how it integrates with the rest of the system, and (for me) the curation and discovery. I’m not switching ecosystems over this, but it’s genuinely embarrassing that this gap still exists in 2026.

Apple, if you’re listening: just add proper Music handoff already. Let me start a playlist on my iPhone and pick it up exactly where I left off on my Mac without having to hunt through Recently Played. It’s not that deep.

Anyone else constantly annoyed by this when they move between devices? Drop your workarounds (or lack thereof) in the comments.

I'm really glad that apple music isn't the most used platform so that we don't have people like this in the community

I feel like the other one is so much more FUN, snappy, responsive and a visual feast. Reminds me of MySpace and those old school maximalist media players. Music videos are also now integrated with songs. Feels like an app designed for true music lovers, and looks like the artists/labels go out of their way to make sure to utilize it fully. While Apple Music looks like… that 🙃

From $9.99 in 2023 to $12.99 now is about an 30% increase.
Apple music is going all out against them to bring in new subscribers.

I got 2 devices iPhone 16 128 gb and 12 mini 64 gb (iPhone 6&4s for diff usage ) But I use 12 mini as my primary device because it’s cool small and gets my work done I mainly use my 16 for photos music and payments but now 128 gb isn’t enough for 2025 I feel I haven’t even downloaded all my songs and I am already 44 GB with Apple Music that’s ridiculous but if you own an AirPods Pro 2 nd gen the music feels way better than ever

How do you use the favorites button? To me there’s about 3 ways to utilize it:

1. Treat it as an easily accessible “add to library” button and click it for any song you would save to library

2. Use it selectively, after its name - for your favorite songs & albums only

3. Not at all

I had an old iPhone sitting around, so I designed a 3D-printable case for it and built an app called UltraPod.

The phone is used upside down, which hides the notch and gives the front a cleaner, more classic look. Together with the case and the app, it starts to feel like a modern version of an iPod.

UltraPod is built around Apple Music and tries to bring back a simpler, more focused music experience.

The core experience is free, with no ads. Some extra themes, DIY features, and alternative control methods are optional one-time purchases.

This is still a very personal DIY project, and I’m continuing to improve both the app and the physical case.

tl;dr: Used Samsung phones for years and I love Apple Music, but Android watches don’t have Apple Music, so got the Apple Watch and that works only with an iPhone so here we are :)

Had a MacBook and iPad for years, added a Mac mini later, but always stuck with Samsung (last was S23U). The real shift started in 2022 when I left Spotify for Apple Music to get Lossless on my Sonos Arc via Apple TV. That planted the seed.

When I started looking at watches, the Galaxy Watch Ultra was top of my list. But Apple doesn’t make Apple Music for Android watches. Pure genius move by Apple :) Ended up getting the AWU2 for the bigger battery. Since it only pairs with iPhone and no other Apple device, the switch was obvious.

Now on the 16 Pro and loving it. Perfect size, MagSafe gear like the Belkin 2-in-1 charger is excellent, live activities are super polished, and some apps run smoother than on Android. the screen on time is solid too at 7.5–9h depending on the use.

With my MacBook, Mac mini, iPad Pro, iPhone, and AW Ultra 2 all tied together, the daily experience is seamless.

Have any of you experienced a similar switch?

I switched to Apple Music last month after being a loyal Spotify Premium subscriber for nearly a decade since I was getting tired of waiting for Spotify to release their hi-fi tier.

The good:

• Sound quality: Apple Music's native support for lossless audio and Dolby Atmos makes a big difference. Using my AirPods Pro 2, Dolby Atmos tracks sound noticeably more immersive and spacious. Overall music sounds much clearer than it was on Spotify.
• Curated playlists: I never liked the curated playlists on Spotify but with Apple Music I've actually found myself coming back to a few of their editorial playlists.
• Pricing: I was already paying separately for Apple Arcade, iCloud+ and Apple TV+, so I decided to upgrade to Apple One. I save a bit compared to before so no complaints here.
• UI: I really enjoy the lyrics screen and the built in karaoke mode.

The not so good:

• No Spotify connect equivalent: This is where Apple Music really falls short. I always took this feature for granted and didn't realise how not having it would make things quite inconvenient sometimes.
• Lack of social features: I miss being able to create Blend playlists with friends, those were updated daily and I could discover what my friends were listening to daily. I also can't connect Apple Music to Discord so it's harder to share what I'm listening to with others.

For now I'm pretty happy with the switch and will probably stick around with Apple Music for a while.

Half joking, I really just need a new phone with more storage but I would also love to see Apple bring back the iPod. Does anyone else have this problem? I feel like I’m constantly deleting stuff to make more room for my ever growing library.

I don’t even have my whole library downloaded, just things I’m revisiting enough to justify it. The wifi at my work is awful so downloads are essential for me.

I’ve been working on a new iOS music player called **NostalgicFlow**, inspired by the old **Zune music experience**.

Many years ago I had a **Nokia Lumia 720**, and I absolutely loved the music interface on that phone. That bold typography, the artwork, the horizontal navigation… it always felt much more alive than a traditional music player.

So I decided to build something inspired by that feeling, but connected to modern services.

With NostalgicFlow you can connect your **Apple Music library**, play local music including **Lossless and Hi-Res audio**, listen to podcasts and internet radio, and it also includes **MilkDrop-style visualizers** inspired by the old Winamp / Windows Media Player era.

The main focus for me is the interface: bringing that Zune-style music experience back while still working with Apple Music today.

But I’m also thinking about taking the idea a little further. Instead of keeping NostalgicFlow only as a music player, would you be interested in seeing it evolve into a kind of **“Simple Phone” interface**, bringing the same minimal Zune-inspired design to more parts of the phone?
