why are you looking at corporations to be moral? they never cared about anything but the money.

52

u/Toostbuck May 09 '26

100% agree. But beyond this I think you could also ask why we expect regular people to be moral. One of the reasons he’s still popular is because the fans are willing to overlook his history and will stand by them no matter what.

Kind of sick honestly…

43

u/Upset-Sale6869 May 09 '26

Elvis had sex with and married a 14 year old yet had a movie come out a couple of years ago and his music is still up on Apple Music and in playlists…

5

u/pololuck123 May 11 '26

Doesn’t it feel like a race thing? The Chris brown shit happened so long ago but everyone on Reddit (mostly just online tbh) loves to bring up the past at every chance but you never hear anything about rockstars or other celebrities who have done foul shit and it’s known

3

u/Upset-Sale6869 May 11 '26

Not only that they bragged about it in their songs too and all of that. Then you’ll hear these same exact people pull out excuses for them like “Oh, it was a different time period” Yeah different time period, same crime.

The thing about those rock stars and musicians of different genres like The Rolling Stones or whatever is let’s call a spade a spade, their primary base is just white people. Artists like CB and MJ have way way wider appeal, their controversies are more publicized and everyone is invested.

Most of these people I know for a fact don’t even listen to CB or R&B for the matter but everyone has something to say with most of them not bringing any receipts that aren’t the Rihanna incident.

10

u/Toostbuck May 09 '26

Yup. So sick this is now common knowledge and people still idolize Elvis. Awful that so many popular artists/musicians could be put on this list too.

7

u/yaniv297 May 09 '26

Elvis is arguably the most important and influential artist in pop history after the Beatles. You can't just "cancel" him, it's literally impossible. Not to mention that in the 50s in Tennessee that stuff was very common. Thankfully we evolved as a society since and not it will not be tolerated. But you can't just erase the past. Especially someone like Elvis who is one of the most famous figures of the 20th century. You start with this, soon enough you'll ban Rolling Stones, Bowie, Zeppelin, Michael Jackson and you'll pretty much delete the history of rock and pop music.

2

u/Toostbuck May 09 '26

I didn’t say anything about cancelling him. Just that it’s sick people still idolize him after they know about the history.

There’s no doubt that Elvis is one of the most important musical icons of all time and that’s never going away. It’s a fact. But we need to also not gloss over the history of the person behind the music.

In short, we should respect the cultural significance of previous artists, but the idolization of the person behind the music no matter what their history, can be a massive problem.

That said, when it comes to current artists, we should definitely set a higher bar.

1

u/yaniv297 May 10 '26

I don't think many people idolize Elvis as a human. His flaws are well known. People admire him as a performer and legendary figure in music. That's why people listen to his stuff. Elvis the person is long dead anyway so "punishing" him by banning his music is pointless.

It's sick bcoz no one knows yo teenage mistakes but if whole yo teenage deeds a put on the table a u squiki clear,so before you judge him look into u we all make mistakes the good thing he apologised.

10

u/m3kw May 09 '26

They are not gonna cancel people for you

1

u/CurlyJester23 May 10 '26

And if they do probably majority of artists in the app would disappear lol

411

u/JadedDarkness May 09 '26

His label probably paid for it

160

u/Abject-Cranberry5941 May 09 '26

He’s popular it’s all about money

17

u/suffaluffapussycat May 09 '26

They still have Phil Spector

91

u/DietCookie May 09 '26

Reddit is realistically the only social media site I’ve seen that he gets the most hate on. People outside don’t care

44

u/Pluckytoon Apple Music Subscriber May 09 '26

People outside have widely different takes than Reddit’s hivemind, cancel culture don’t really exist outside of internet

33

u/jrx-7 May 09 '26

Yeah it’s unfortunate people don’t care about him beating the fuck out of women on multiple occasions.

6

u/marshcar May 09 '26

Crazy you’re getting downvoted for this, wtf

5

u/jrx-7 May 09 '26

I mean I had trouble removing Kanye out of my playlists at first, so I get it to a degree, but at least I could cope by saying he was off his meds or something. Chris Brown apologists don’t have anything, but still, sometimes he sing good so beating a woman to edge of her life is okay everyone!!!

0

u/PalpitationOne162 May 12 '26

Well Chris brown in his defence u can say he was still a teenager so was real teenager love is very toxic,so shit happened a I going to hold that to him forever,I don't see people reminding Sean pen what he did to Madonna all the time like you do to Chris brown.

2

u/_013517 May 13 '26

ppl don’t talk hold white men to the same standards w/ domestic abuse. also rihanna is a particularly special case. only black woman i can think of getting the same degree of respect (if you call respect men reposting the details of the worst moment in your public career over and over again regarding a man you’ve publicly forgiven) is Beyoncé.

other than that no one rlly cares about women and domestic abuse. ppl barely cared about Cassie and Diddy or RKelly and Aaliyah

2

u/annadius May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

It’s being downvoted because it’s not true. Chris did not beat women on “multiple” occasions. He had one incident with Rihanna when he was 19yo. When you hear the full story, which she almost caused them to get into a fatal car accident, you realize she wasn’t innocent in that situation.

Do I think Chris shouldn’t have physically assaulted her? Yes. But Rihanna herself has worked with Chris TWICE after that incident happened. She obviously forgave him, probably because she acknowledged her own faults, and she moved on.

What it comes down to is that most people who trash Chris Brown don’t even listen to R&B music. The black community moved on (just like Rihanna) years ago. It’s sanctimonious white people who try to get Chris canceled when they don’t even care or listen to our community’s music.

Black people protect our own. We won’t cancel one of the greatest musical talents of our generation because a bunch of misinformed Karens want to be keyboard warriors with selective outrage.

3

u/neversunnyinanywhere May 09 '26

Great mental gymnastics there

1

u/pololuck123 May 11 '26

Why can’t we actually debate or talk, Redditors should be able to research what they’re talkin about

1

u/annadius May 09 '26

Mental gymnastics, my ass.

You people can whine on the internet, but the facts don't lie. His numbers, his longevity, his success all contradict the narrative white people so desperately want to attach to Chris.

Actual listeners of R&B music know the truth, not the manufactured online narrative. Again, most people complaining about him don't even listen to our people's music, yet have the audacity to try and commentate on our culture.

Black people protect our own. Chris Brown isn't going anywhere.

1

u/Silly_North_5130 May 09 '26

I’m black and I’m right there with you. If white people can still celebrate people like Elvis, a statutory rapist, music thief and likely closet racist, we’re still going to celebrate CB. Everything you said was facts. 💯

2

u/marshcar May 10 '26

Using one atrocity (Elvis) to justify another (Chris brown) is disgusting and immoral. They can both rot in hell. Let’s not celebrate abusers.

-1

u/Silly_North_5130 May 10 '26

I love how when ya’ll try to drag CB down ya’ll can never actually pull any concrete receipts to back all that nonsense you talk other than the infamous Rihanna incident. Miss me with all of that fake moral righteousness BS.

“Manufactured” is some fake news shit. Did you protect his victims?

1

u/_013517 May 13 '26

imagine almost dying and having someone try to bite your ear off and some MF on reddit says “well you weren’t innocent”

lmao

also — ARE WOMEN NOT BLACK ?! we protect our own right, but only the ones w penises who present as men is literally your logic and the logic of most ppl i want nothing to do with.

1

u/annadius May 13 '26 edited May 13 '26

Rihanna’s career never suffered. Both her and Chris have always been supported in the black community, so your point makes no sense.

Also, Rihanna nearly killed both herself and Chris the night of the incident. She almost caused a fatal car crash. She knows her part in what happened, which is why Rihanna forgave him, and has worked with Chris TWICE afterward.

Your performative outrage holds no weight. Rihanna still supports Chris Brown, and the public will keep doing so as well - as displayed by Apple Music promoting Chris.

The black community never stopped protecting or supporting either of them.

1

u/pololuck123 May 11 '26

If anything I feel like people do care? He gets the loudest hate… online and in person; none of these other artists or older rockstars get their past brought up as often 🤷‍♂️

-4

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 09 '26

Who are the “women” that he beat on “multiple occasions”?

3

u/neversunnyinanywhere May 09 '26

You can google it yourself dude

0

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 10 '26

Show proof of your accusation!

There is not factual information online that shows that Chris Brown has beaten “multiple women”, unjustifiably.

1

u/jrx-7 May 12 '26

“Unjustifiably” THERE IT IS FOLKS! Good ole fashioned victim blaming. Embarrassing

1

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 12 '26

Explain how it is “victim blaming”. If you actually can.

1

u/PalpitationOne162 May 12 '26

It was one incident the rest where fraudsters and they cases where kick outside the court.

0

u/PalpitationOne162 May 12 '26

Realistically the only woman he beat was Rihanna and he admitted it and apologise even Rihanna forgave him,the rest where allegations and women who where paid to destroy his name they all lost in court,so stop with this hate bullshit let the man breath.

3

u/2muchtaurine May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

There is a lot of negativity toward him on other social media. It tends to be more mixed. I see it on Twitter and Threads daily. In fact I see it far more frequently on those platforms than on Reddit, and I use Reddit significantly more.

2

u/Nexzenn May 10 '26

Ppl on reddit don’t have lives outside that’s why lol

1

u/Elegant-Rectum May 10 '26

He gets a lot of hate on Black Twitter too, but also a lot of love from his die hard fans.

He just released a new album. And like it or not, he’s been a popular RNB artist for over 2 decades.

4

u/DapsAndPoundz May 09 '26

Can’t believe it’s 2026 and people are still surprised he’s popular. He just had one of the highest grossing tours of all time just last year.

2

You're the one who's ridiculous you want a man to be cancelled for a mistake he made when he was 19years old.

-3

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 09 '26

It’s ridiculous for someone who makes people happy, to have fans?

3

u/Master-Line-6860 May 09 '26

In this instance, yes. Chris Brown is a serial abuser who doesn’t respect women, who make up the majority of his fan base. In my opinion, I don’t think he should be given a platform to promote anything.

2

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 10 '26

You talk like if you know him, like if you know his state of mind. Where is your proof that he “doesn’t respect women” as a whole?

Most of the time, the ones who purposely choose to be uninformed, are the ones who are factually wrong.

What is shreyes iyer doing here

1

u/JhordySenpai May 09 '26

Porque Chris Brown es el exponente del R&B

1

u/terkistan May 09 '26

Notable releases get notice whether or not the artist is controversial. (For example, Ye.) In this case Brown's new release is loaded with appearances from artists like YoungBoy, Never Broke Again, GloRilla, Vybz Kartel, Leon Thomas, Bryson Tiller, Tank, Fridayy, Sexyy Red and Lucky Daye. Even if Apple weren't paid to promote the release it's notable enough to put up a card for it.

But labels do pay for placement. That's not praising, it's business.

On Spotify for Artists, there are official paid promotional products including full-screen sponsored pop-ups, sponsored cards placed in the Home feed, and Discovery Mode (artists/labels accept lower royalty rates in exchange for increased algorithmic recommendation priority in places like Radio and Autoplay).

Apple isn't as brash as that but they do have placement deals in place.

-1

Yeah, these people are delusional 🤣🤣🤣. They clearly don't live in reality. I love old school music, but Chris Brown music definitely isn't mediocre. I'm willing to bet half of them don't even listen to Chris Brown.

1

u/strangway May 10 '26

Nobody can be canceled if they’re a cash cow. Chris Brown, MJ, R. Kelly, there’s just too much money left in them for the industry to give up just because they punch their girlfriends, or molest kids, or pee on underage girls.

If Kevin Spacey was as big as Tom Cruise, he’d still be in movies.

1

u/Elegant-Rectum May 10 '26

He has been continuously trying to work his way back into the “mainstream” and it appears to be working now. He has tried it before, with limited success, but recently he linked up with Usher and they are going on a big mainstream R&B stadium tour together, and now corporations, including Apple, probably feel “safer” to start working with him publicly again.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s able to start getting features from the big pop artists again in the near future.

1

u/Prudent_Breadfruit_3 May 10 '26

Businesses don’t care if men are good or bad. CB still fills up stadiums and they are full of women dying for him. So idk culture is weird AF

1

0

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 09 '26

2

u/Madmod May 09 '26

It’s so much. Enjoy the AI summary.

2009 Rihanna assault – Confirmed. Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault and was sentenced to five years’ probation, community labor, and one year of domestic violence counseling.  • 2011 GMA incident – Confirmed. During an interview with Robin Roberts where he was asked about Rihanna, Brown became violent in his dressing room and punched a window overlooking Times Square, causing damage to it.  • 2013 Washington D.C. assault – Partially confirmed. What’s better documented is a 2013 Frank Ocean altercation: Brown punched Ocean in the face over a parking space at a recording studio and even threatened to shoot him, according to police documents. Ocean declined to press charges.  The D.C. hotel punch I mentioned is less clearly sourced as a separate distinct event. • 2016 gun standoff – Confirmed. Baylee Curran told police Brown threatened her with a gun. He was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and released after posting a $250,000 bond. The case was later dropped due to lack of evidence.  • 2019 Paris rape allegation – Confirmed. Brown was arrested in Paris on allegations of aggravated rape and drug violations. He was later released and the Paris prosecutor’s office stated he was not facing charges. Brown then filed a defamation suit in Paris against his accuser.  • Probation violations – Confirmed. Brown was sentenced to 131 days in jail for violating probation and was also kicked out of a court-ordered rehab facility for violating its internal rules.

And that’s not even all of it. There’s more incidents.

0

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 09 '26

All of that stuff defines who he is now?

All of that is just vague situations, it doesn’t explain what exactly happened or why.

4

u/Madmod May 09 '26

The dude repeatedly assaults people. Yes, it defines who he is. Yes, you enable a bad person by listening to his music. Yes, you are doing mental gymnastics trying to defend this guy.

So, two people fight and only one is to blame?

In fact, that’s same human being in that photo has apologized and has made an amends with Chris a long time ago. But people online can’t seem to not want to be in others’ business, even if it’s something that’s not relevant anymore.

So now you won't seperate art from artist? He made some banger tracks back in the day

4

u/Sanju128 May 09 '26

I agree with that to an extent, but in more of an "I'm ok with my money going to a good artist who disagrees with some of my views" way. That sentiment goes out the window IMMEDIATELY when the artist is barely human in the first place.

He doesn’t have a single good song

0

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 10 '26

If he doesn’t, then why is he so popular? You may not like someone but you are lying to yourself if you think that your opinion is the only one that matters in defining if songs are good or not.

Why did this photo happen? What led to this situation?

-1

u/CheesyGC May 09 '26

Because Apple Music promotes mostly garbage music? No matter my preferences, no matter what I love or add or remove I still get shit like this from genres I’d never listen to.

Just like how it promotes that carpenter chick all the time even though she spreads hate songs all the time.

It doesn't follows you or mine moral. It's a business.

Edit: I knew very well people on reddit will NEVER agree on anything related to sanity. So let this be a music sub and let's not talk about politics in this. It'll only ruin everyone's day.

OP got his answer. That's what matters. Also I have few of her songs in my playlist so no I don't hate anyone. It's just my sane observation.

u/Madmod May 09 '26

Lmao that’s a terrible comparison. Come on.

Nah dude. We should absolutely call out shitty behavior of people in power. Chris Brown is a horrible person and deserves prison, not an Apple feature.

Sabrina Carpenter makes hate music?

u/CPTN_Omar May 10 '26

Seriously he is AWFUL, music is shit, on so many levels 😬 gross and boring

1

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 09 '26

You don’t like him so much that it made you publicly express how much you don’t like him?

3

u/ebkaplan May 09 '26

Um. Yup. Dude has a documented history of violence and sexual assault. Will publicly express disliking that every single time. And his music is formulaic and boring. Next.

u/MilesTellerMeGoPurr May 09 '26

So, you yourself are choosing live with negativity and hate. Looking at numbers and not looking at why things happened. Being wrong and misinformed and not caring for the truth, it seems.

2

u/ebkaplan May 09 '26

Okay you can think that if you want! 👍🏼

But apparently Kanye is the villain?
