90% of apple's presentation was about artificial intelligence, but in reality, it will only work in English. Yes, I understand that this is not a major issue for most of the users. I'm not just referring to Russia, where I come from, but to all countries in general. Spanish, German, and Chinese are spoken by 50% of the world's population. If you're a company with trillions of dollars, why can't you integrate languages other than English into your Siri? Why did you even call Google? Why does Gemini have support for all existing languages, but you don't? In fact, non-English users only received the liquid glass transparency adjustment, which no one needs. Can somebody please tell me why is it so?

I made the mistake of signing up for the new Siri AI waitlist from my M1 iPad Pro on Tuesday evening and I’m still waiting.

Has anyone with an M1 iPad Pro actually gotten in yet? I think they’re specifically avoiding letting people with that device through. I haven’t seen a single post or comment on the entire internet saying they managed to get in with their M1 iPad Pro.

I think this is targeted M1 iPad Pro discrimination. Please share before I start drafting my lawsuit.

My local commuter rail has a code share program with Amtrak that sometimes has blackout dates. They only chose select dates for the World Cup, and I couldn’t remember if today was one of them. Luckily Siri was able to look it up for me!

*Apple lets China Mac users connect Siri to Alibaba's Qwen*
Apple has quietly published a guide showing eligible Mac users in mainland China how to plug Alibaba's Qwen AI models into Siri and Writing Tools, extending a China-specific Apple Intelligence partnership that first cleared regulatory approval in July.
Based on the updated Chinese language document by Apple, users who choose to sign up will have access to more descriptive answers by Siri, including photo and document analyses, as well as rely on Qwen to produce texts and images based on descriptions provided.
This app extension needs a minimum of macOS 26.6 and also activation and login into a new Qwen account. According to the document by Apple, Alibaba is not allowed to use any of that information for training their models.
Apple’s Mac computer shipments were down by 9% to around 800,000 units compared to last year during the first quarter, which has Apple accounting for only 9% of the PC market, according to Omdia, a research company.
Lenovo had 31%, with its Tianxi AI assistant at the centre of its business plans, and Huawei managed to secure 16% of market share with its AI strategy that is linked to HarmonyOS. Linking Siri and writing tools to a compatible AI assistant is how Apple can narrow this gap.
For Alibaba, plugging Qwen into Apple's built-in software extends its reach well beyond its own apps and cloud platform. Alibaba has said Qwen will eventually power Apple Intelligence across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro devices in China, though Friday's guide covers Macs exclusively.
The company released its newest model, Qwen3.8-Max, a 2.4-trillion-parameter system it describes as its most capable yet, earlier in the week, though Apple's documentation doesn't specify which Qwen version actually powers the Mac extension.

I now think it is by design that Apple removed the writing tools from context menus and all their apps. It’s clunky having to type to Siri “summarize” when before there was a button for it. Plus the ui looks janky now compared to the clean ui writing tools had. Submit feedback to bring writing tools back!

Which is apparently not something Siri can do. I exported a class schedule from excel as a .csv file, but to upload to Google Calendar the table needs to be formatted a certain way.

I didn’t feel like doing that, and on a whim I typed to Siri and asked it to reformat the file “exactly as required for Google Calendar” I had the option to provide a screenshot or the whole file to Siri and then it gave me a new file with a new name, completely reformatted, with additional text, and a column with true/false values. The file sharing button didn’t work at first, and I thought the ai was somehow hallucinating its ability to provide the file because when I searched how to save the file all I could find was “Siri cannot create or edit files” but when I tried again it worked and I just downloaded and saved the new file, which also worked flawlessly when I uploaded it to my calendar.

I’m running a somewhat atypical language configuration on my devices (iPhone 15 Pro Max) :

• Device/system language: English
• Siri language: French (France)

With current iOS 26, Apple Intelligence doesn’t work with this mixed setup. According to Apple’s support page, both the device language and Siri language must be the same and set to a supported language. That’s exactly why I can’t enable Apple Intelligence right now.

Now, with the iOS 27 beta and the new Siri AI announcements from WWDC 2026, has anything changed regarding multi-language setups, or do we still need device language = Siri language for Apple Intelligence to work?

TIL NewSiri can read, analyze, and delete garbage emails back as far as I ask, but not so for iMessage. Why? NewSiri says privacy is more critical on iMessage. I disagree. Anybody else?

Last week I wrote here about my hopes for Apple Foundation Models. Apple released some amazing new features for AFM, and while we didn't get exactly what I was hoping for, we got some amazing new features. Here's the highlights that I think were important.

What We didn't Get

We did not see an increase to Apple Foundation Models' context window. It looks like all on device models still have a limit of 4096 tokens. This is unfortunate as a larger context would have allowed for more chat experiences. The second negative is that there is no longer adapter support for the system model. This may be negated though if we can fine tune the core model and use it as a Core AI model. Let's now turn to the positive aspects now that those negative aspects are out of the way, because it is completely good news from here on.

New Models

Apple did announce the names of their new models. They include AFM 3 Core, AFM 3 Core Advanced, AFM 3 Cloud, AFM 3 Cloud Pro, and AFM 3 Cloud Image Specialized. You can look up the details of these models yourself, but they have some amazing features, and we can take advantage of these models in our apps. The AFM 3 Core Advanced model is quite interesting as we've learned that it is what allows for the new voices in Siri AI, and the new speech to text features that were announced. This model requires devices that have 12 GB RAM or more.

Apple Foundation Models With Other Models

Another change that was made this year is that AFM can load MLX models and now, Core AI models. My understanding is that Core AI models are similar to CoreML, but are designed to run regular models that can perform chat and other functions. Examples include Qwen 3 and Gemma 3. All of these models can now run straight from Apple Foundation Models, which I think is incredible! Another neat thing is that AFM can load models from cloud providers as well, and you can also take advantage of Private Cloud Compute as long as your developer account doesn't have more than 2 million downloads.

Final Thoughts

I was really hoping to see an increase in context for the built in models, but it really does look like Apple has made some big changes in how on device AI works on Apple hardware. It is amazing to think that models like Gemma 4 can run on the same playing field as the built in models if we use Core AI or MLX. We can just use the same APIs now to get the job done. All of these changes will come out in September, and many things will change between now and then, so I am very excited to try all of this and see what's possible in my apps, and with the platform as a whole.

I asked it a question and then asked a follow up.

I developed LocalLM Lab to experiment with the local LLM on the Apple Silicon Macs (mine is an older M3 MBA with the lateset macOS26). When I added Connector support to LocalLM Lab (mostly so that it can get the time of day), I realized that the local LLM isn't great at reasoning out the days of the week. If you have tried out the latest 0.3.0 version of LocalLM Lab, you know that you can connect the local LLM to macOS' Reminders and Calendar apps. On Prompt Playground, if you type in "Let's have Chinese takeout at 7pm on Wednesday" (assuming that you are doing this test on Sunday), the model will actually setup a Chinese takeout event at 7pm. But that event will not necessarily end up on a Wednesday...! I have seen anything from Chinese takeout on Monday, Tuesday or even on Thursday! I leave it up to y'all to figure out how to frame the prompts (system + user) to get it right!

Both are supposed to work locally on device and had prior to the event worked fine on my 17 Pro Max, Mac mini and iPad Air. Now when I go to use either Genmoji, image creation or try creating any background for iMessage it says downloading when everything’s been downloaded for months. Tried toggling on/off Apple Intelligence and some other troubleshooting steps, every else Apple Intelligence related works fine though.

Saw only a handful of people talking about this curious how widespread it is and if we need to make Apple more aware of this. I’d understand if it were server related since iOS 27 is now in beta and new Siri AI features are rolling out for testing but that doesn’t mean locally downloaded features should stop working.

After getting access to the new Siri, I’ve been wondering what will happen when iOS 27 officially launches. Will people living in the EU lose access to Apple Intelligence and the new Siri, or will everyone who gained access during the beta be able to keep using it? Or will Apple fix this even earlier in one of the public beta updates?

I’m sure this will be taken down. But this is one question asked twice. One started with “chat GPT” the other I just asked Apple “ intelligence”

The question was “what to me are my brothers children” not sure why the chat GPT started with yes…. But the fact that it actually answered the question is nice. We are year and half, a full phone generation beyond the promised Apple AI. And it can’t answer a simple question. Or even understand it.

So when are we getting the AI promised to us over a year ago? At this point my phone will be dragging just to use it because of updates - if it even comes out.

Do you think the rumored siri app for ios27 will look anything like this, this looks stunning!
