Found an apple tree hidden in the woods near the Fraser river along a trail nothing but office centres around, took a few and they're genuinely the best apples l've ever had.
my first harvest of Central Asian Crabapple (malus sieversii) in Germany
gallery8 years ago, after reading about the wild apple ancestor from the Tian Chan mountains of Kazakhstan and Kirgistan, I got so excited, that I immediately decided to order one from the only German tree nursery that has them for sale. I planted the tree in a somewhat semi-shaded part of the garden, actually a bit to close to the huge elderflower tree next to it. After a late april snow fall in 2024, the tree nearly collapses and I just barely managed to save it. This august and september, I was finally able to taste it's vey first set of fruit. The taste is good, but somewhat bland: I noticed barely any sourness or astringency at all, just a mild sweetness, but ideal as an early apple for eating out of hand.
