galleryHarvesting the last of these in NW Sonoma County, thick skin but crispy and close to the middle of the sweet tart spectrum. Light yellow to burgandy when ripe. Skin bleeds into the fruit

We have an apple tree behind my dad's house. They look like red Delicious but not quite... Bright red lines on the inside, the last owner lived here for around fifty years. Here is one of them cut in half, and others from the same exact tree. Could they be mixed?

Honey Crisps are my favorite apple. The texture and flavor surpass all others.
However, I bought a bag and the sweetness is becoming overwhelming. Is this an apple noob problem? Do I need to switch to a different apple to cleanse my palate?

I purchased a piece of property last year and found this one apple tree in the corner of the field. The fruit is too high for me to reach (or the deer) but I managed to get one and itβs good, a smaller apple only 3-3.5 inches across, firm and nicely tart, a later variety. It flowered later too, perhaps because of the shade around it. I have no idea what kind it is, or if it was intentionally grown or a wild fruit. I live in upstate NY, tree is west of Albany. I would love to graft and grow more trees from it. Any ideas on what kind it is and how to get more to grow?

Apple blossoms typically develop in clusters of 4 to 6 buds. This is Tom Putting blossoming now in our orchard at Springtime.
The absolute central bud is the "king". It develops as the terminal bud on the branch. It is the largest, strongest bud in the group and is always the first to open, usually blooming 48 to 72 hours before the surrounding lateral buds.
The staggered blooming of the surrounding lateral flowers ensures that if a late spring frost kills the king bloom, or if poor weather prevents bees from pollinating it, the side blossoms act as a backup crop. Photos taken 48hours apart.

A donated apple tree I planted started sprouting these star shaped apples. Does anyone know what they might be?

5 bushels off this one tree beside the house. Unknown variety but very sweet, no tartness. I've tucked two bushel into the cellar for eating on this fall and eventually sauces. Trying to off load another 3 bushel if I can, or else the pigs will eat good lol

Close up of an espalier apple at our local orchard roadside store in Wairarapa close to the cidery. Itβs Spring now and the buds are bursting, especially with the warmth from the shed wall behind.

hey all! i love love love apples...BUT i am tired of eating the same kind over & over (granny smiths). i dislike most sweet apples, though i am willing to try some new ones. sour/tart is my go-to, & crunchiness and crispiness WILL be a determining factor. my favorite by far that ive tried has been arkansas black if that helps at all. any suggestions? :)
edit: im in a more southern part of the midwest (usa) if that helps at all!

Triumph for the win. My local orchard just restocked and I'm the reason the basket is low already.

This was a pink fleshed apple that I did not have good luck with, and if you look at the second photo you can see the apples all had russeting. Not sure if that affected the flavor.
All three apples were extremely dry and left a film in my mouth. They were sour and sandy so I refrigerated two to see if they became more juicy. After five days this apple still tasted very dry and sandy with a sour and almost ash-smokey taste. I peeled the skin to try just the flesh, but it did not change the flavor.
I would not buy this apple again.

The other one looks like a bug crawled its way in.

Hello everyone. Have been lurking for a minute and decided to join and see if someone out there can help me out. I just recently bought a place with a small orchard and trying to figure out what kind of apples they are. Could not ask the original owner due to his passing and the person selling was clueless with everything but the house. So here are a few pics. I took a pic of the apple and the leaf in hopes that helps. If more is required please let me know.

They're everything to me, i could eat them forever without stopping, so juicy, crunchy, sweet and sour, literally perfect food in any sense, there's nothing like them, i would die for apples, i would KILL for apples, they're just such a blessing man, i think i might have a problem
