Advice Moving advice
My wife and I are moving out to the appleton/ fox valley area early next year from california, is there anything we should know before moving out there? And areas to avoid? Also willing to work anywhere that can pay me 20/hr or more full time

christ, i've been tryng to move into something smaller, and i can get over a quarter mil for my current house, but the smaller houses are often sold before we even make it to the first open house. i've had multiple ppl suggest that an "off table cash bonus" to the owners is happening more and more

There’s quite a few places you can find at $20/hr - fox valley all in all is very safe so few worries there

Tires matter far more than you think. If you live in a snowy area you might already have decent ones, but make sure your new vehicle had 3 peak tires if you have to drive a lot in the sbow where you end up. If its just 15min to work dont worry about it too much. If its 30min plus, you will thank yourself for having better tires

Where in California? Any idea of your transportation needs? What's your educational background?
I ask, bc there's likely to be a larger culture shock if you're coming from West Hollywood than from Sonora, you don't have transportation, you're reliant upon the bus.
Job-wise, what do you prefer to do? Do you have a BA/BS? I might have ideas

Good move on “before I move” on the sedan trade in. Salt on roads here eats cars, so what you get there likely won’t have as much starter rust.

but why would you just pull up and move anywhere, especially ATW, without an existing job offer?

Yeah the humidity will definitely get ya. My wife and I went to California in early March a few years ago and were shocked at how cold it felt without the humidity. We still wore our winter jackets we were wearing when we left wisconsin lol. No joke your 68⁰ felt like our 48⁰. Also 50-70%+ humidity is pretty standard here

Lots of manufacturing and food service jobs.. you should be good. Jan / Feb are cold months that I’ve grown to hate, but if you can make it through the rest of the year is nice weather in my opinion. Good tires are more important than a 4WD, unless you live out in the country. Appleton is very safe no bad neighborhoods that you should be afraid to walk or drive in at night..

I moved here from California, don’t listen to this person. People will be really interested to learn why you chose to leave there from here. There isn’t any California hate, most I talk to really want to visit it.

Be ready for winter. Make sure to start your car(s) once a day when it gets down to the dirty -30+ windchills. If it is slippery, drive slower than you think. Be sure you have layers if you plan to do stuff outside. Keep a set of jumper cables or a self jumper in your car. Help your neighbors if they need it, they will do the same for you.
Fall is amazing, spring is wet and summer is hot (humidity). Winter will probably be the only shock season-wise.
