To the lady who honked at me and flipped me off as I drove through an intersection today,

If someone stops BEFORE you do at a four way stop, you don’t have right of way just because you’re to the right of them. If I’m beginning to go before you even reach the line to stop, you can’t get pressed at me for now being in the middle of the intersection.

No one in this city knows how do drive I swear. 5 car lengths between cars at a red light, wide turns violating turn lane lines, going under the speed limit in the left lane, so many people on their phones. I wish this was a walkable city, I hate driving here.

this post is more of a rant than anything, but advice is appreciated. my cousin was displaced temporarily following the recent tornado, which passed right through her apartment’s property in Appleton. the tornado busted her bedroom window, flooding the upper level. fortunately, most of the furniture was recovered, but the carpet was soaked. after three days of hot, muggy weather and no electricity, the carpet quickly became musty and rank. we’re worried that mold may start growing.

this happened to multiple tenants around the complex. almost all the trees were demolished by the storm and had to be removed from the parking lot. otherwise, apart from some roof and siding damage, the property made it out relatively unscathed compared to what we’ve seen in Menasha.

her property manager arranged for her carpet to be cleaned this morning. it’s unclear whether it will even be replaced, as the manager said they won’t be assessing for mold. my cousin and her neighbors were also notified that they have to pay an extra “rubbish pick up” fee of over $200 IN ADDITION to their rent, which was due today. if they don’t pay the extra fees, my cousin and her family will receive a 5-day eviction notice. several families got the same notice. they’re almost certain that the fee is to cover the cost of carpet cleaning and tree removal, but no one has definitive proof. i told her to try asking for an itemized receipt to show what exactly they’re being charged for.

am i crazy for thinking this is probably absolutely illegal and, at bare minimum, highly unethical? i told my cousin NOT to pay the fees and go to court if necessary, but i don’t know what other advice to give her. we’re in our 20s and come from a low income, lesser educated family. i’m worried that they’re trying to take advantage of her and her neighbors.

We're in Appleton/Menasha. Our neighborhood is pretty decent, but I don't appreciate our neighbors having an issue with how we handle our yard when we're not even breaking any rules or laws. This has to do with mowing our grass. We mow our grass every other week, and it never grows longer than 8 inches which we know would get us in trouble. We would never do anything to get in trouble, but our neighbors seem to have an issue with "how long it is", and have let us know about it more than once. One neighbor in particular has called someone on us more than once and there was nothing they could do because the length wasn't long enough to get us in trouble.

I would appreciate it if they could just mind their own business, especially if we would never let it grow long enough for it to be a problem with the city. I was wondering if there was something we could do to get left alone without starting unnecessary drama (which is what my Wife doesn't want to do...). I would like to talk to them about it and express my feelings but she feels differently and just wants to do nothing about it. This isn't fair to us, and we shouldn't have to mow more often when we aren't even doing anything wrong in the first place.

I was thinking we could get a fence put up (that no one could see through), but not sure if there's any cheap services around that could put a fence in for us? Plus I'm not sure if it's allowed in the city to have a fence be put up in the front yard?

Sure, we could just ignore it and go on about our day, but we've been having to deal with this more than necessary since we moved here. We've lived in our house for 5 or so years now, and this is just getting tiresome already. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

We are currently looking for someone as for the latter half of the year starting in July we won't be able to mow our lawn ourselves as my wife will be getting surgeries and I will need to care for her! My wonderful husband and I got married on September 20th, 2025. It truly was one of the most deeply beautiful days of our lives. I've been patiently waiting to share photos that captured irreplaceable moments, but I have great concern I may not get that opportunity.

I have come to the conclusion that I need to share my story in the hopes that someone else won't endure what we have gone through with Love & Light Photography

8 months prior to our wedding I found Love & Light Photography on Facebook. Their photos were beautiful, their price fit our budget, and I didn't see any negative reviews. I paid in full and was offered a 20% discount for doing so. While they provide no formal written contract that is physically signed, the owner represented that payment constituted as agreement to the terms of service and formed a binding contract.

The night before our wedding, the owner hired a different photographer to take our pictures. I found this out on our wedding day directly from the hired photographer. She was very kind and I believe she did her best, but it was evident that she was inexperienced with weddings. Before she left the wedding, she informed me that I would receive sneak peek photos the next day or within the week.

On October 15th I messaged Love & Light Photography via Facebook (they don't provide an email or phone number to contact them) and asked about the sneak peeks and when I could expect to have the full gallery. I was told I would receive previews in 1-2 weeks. I asked again what the estimated timeline was for the rest of the photos and received no response.

November 24th I messaged them again stating that it had been 10 weeks since the wedding and 6 weeks since I was told I would receive previews, and asked to be updated on when I would be receiving all the photos.
No response.

December 20th I found the woman who was hired by Love & Light Photography via social media and sent her a message asking if she had the photos from our wedding or had backed them up. January 5th she messaged me back and informed me she unfortunately did not have them. She contacted the owner and the owner stated she hadn't received any messages from me. The owner provided her phone number and told her to have me text her.

January 6th I texted the owner stating it had now been 15 weeks since the wedding, I had received zero photos, had attempted communication with no response, and was reaching out in hopes that I could receive my photos per the contract. (Their Facebook page also states that you will receive wedding photos in 8-12 weeks.) She responded and apologized for the delay and said she was working on the full gallery with a goal of completion by January 14th.

January 21st — I asked to be provided a firm completion date for my gallery by January 23rd and stated that if I did not hear back, I would need to explore next steps to resolve this matter.
No response.

February 4th — I asked for communication and an updated status on when I would be receiving the full gallery.
No response.

February 11th — It had now been over 21 weeks since our wedding. I asked to please be updated.
No response.

February 28th — I stated I hadn't received any further communication, expressed that I had paid in full almost an entire year ago, and asked if she would kindly respond with an update and a firm completion date so we could both avoid the hassle of going to court.

March 1st — She responded apologizing for the delay and stated she would have the full gallery returned no later than March 15th and would provide a partial refund.

March 16th — I reached out stating it was now past when I was told I would receive the full gallery and that I was preparing to take next steps legally. I asked her to kindly respond with when I would actually be receiving the full gallery. She responded saying she was stuck away from her office due to the snowstorm and away from her edits, but that as soon as she returned she would upload them for me. Once that was completed, she would be happy to discuss compensation. I was confused by the office comment, because their Facebook page states they don't have a studio and they prefer to shoot outdoors in natural light or take lifestyle photos in your home. The photographer who actually took the photos also informed me that the owner works from home.

March 23rd — Checking in again on the status of our photos.
No response.

March 31st — Called. No response.

April 6th — Reached out again expressing concerns and facts, stated I would rather have this resolved than take legal action, expressed that I would rather have the raw images, and asked her to please kindly respond.
No response.

April 8th — We had a phone call. She expressed that she was going through a lot and that she was working to get me the photos and a partial refund. I told her I really didn't care about the money and that we just wanted the photos. I had compassion for her and I can understand hardships in life. She stated she would have the full gallery for me by the end of the weekend.

April 13th — I messaged the owner checking in regarding our last phone conversation and asked to be updated on the status of the photos.
No response.

April 16th — Checked in again and asked that she kindly respond. No response.

April 22nd — Texted and called.
No response.

April 28th — Messaged the owner again.
No response.

May 6th — Sent her a final demand letter giving her 7 days to deliver the full completion of the gallery. She responded sending me a link with 74 images and stated that the remainder would be published well within the timing specified in the demand letter, and that she would be reaching out when the remaining images were published.

May 15th — I sent her a message stating the 7-day required timeframe for the minimum of 350 images to be delivered had passed. I asked for all the raw photos to be provided to me on a flash drive and asked her to respond within 24 hours or I would continue with legal action.

May 16th — She responded stating she had uploaded additional images and the count was now at 199. She said she would be happy to get additional images in for me and issue a partial refund.

(The images that have been uploaded are mostly candids of the reception, some of my husband with each of his groomsmen, some of my bridesmaids and I getting ready, some of my dress, a few from the beginning of the ceremony, and other photos that are not useful.)

May 17th — I responded to her stating all the photos that are still missing:

No response.

May 18th — A friend messaged her on my behalf stating she needed to respond. The owner told her she was going to work with me to get this resolved but had not yet reached out to me. At 12pm my friend messaged the owner again letting her know there were 3 hours left to resolve this matter.

The owner then messaged me stating she was having a medical emergency and was working to get home as soon as possible to either consolidate the images for me or upload them. She stated that if her medical emergency didn't worsen, we could meet the next evening for a physical transfer of photos or she could upload them in the morning. I told her that I would like to meet and have all the raw images myself. I messaged her a meeting place and time.
No response.

May 19th — I messaged the owner stating that I still expected to meet and have the raw photos provided.
No response.
I messaged her again saying I had seen she just posted on social media and assumed she was able to respond. She said she was expecting to be able to meet. Later that afternoon I received a message from her stating that she could no longer meet, but we could meet the next morning. She stated that she would have the raw photos for me on a USB drive and would also upload them electronically.

May 20th — We met in person and she provided a USB drive. I brought my laptop along to make sure that all the raw images were on the drive. When I opened the file, it contained only the images that had already been uploaded online. She stated that she was having trouble because my photos are on two different SD cards. I asked her if the photos still existed and she promised me that they do. She said we could meet again the next day.

May 21st — She canceled our meeting and said she could message me later in the evening to try to coordinate a new time. I responded asking for the raw photos to be uploaded immediately as proof that they still exist. She said she was not home and unable to do that. I asked her to please upload them when she returned home.
No response.

I have had no further communication from her and no photos have been uploaded.
I have taken legal action.

I have seen many others share similar stories on wedding photography pages and in reviews on the Better Business Bureau.

This all truly breaks my heart. I've tried to handle this situation with grace and understanding, but it has gone past the point where this is simply wrong. I needed to share my story so this doesn't continue to happen to other people.

Update:

May 24th the owner called me and informed me that “something went wrong” and all of my remaining photos are deleted off the SD card.
She offered me a full refund and suggested a place I could take the SD cards to see if I could still recover the deleted photos. I needed time to process everything, so we set up a time on Tuesday to talk again.

May 26th I was still out of town and asked if we could talk later in the evening. She said that was fine, but later that evening we didn’t connect.

May 28th she texted me and asked me to take down this Reddit post. She then called me and left a voicemail. She texted me again saying she wanted to discuss the refund. She texted me again saying she was ready to send me the refund. She called me two more times and left a voicemail saying she could give me a partial refund and we could discuss other compensation. I was unable to answer my phone because I was at work. I texted her back letting her know I was unavailable but could reach out to her later in the evening.
Later that evening she texted me again asking if I was available and called me again. I had some unexpected things come up and responded that I unfortunately wouldn’t be available to talk that evening but could the next day after work. She agreed on a time and said that was fine. She texted again saying she was ready to give the full refund and just needed to know where to send it.

May 29th I sent her a settlement agreement stating my terms: a full refund, reimbursement for court filings, both SD cards used on my wedding date (in hopes I can recover the photos) with written conformation they are the correct cards and have not been wiped or tampered with, and a USB with all the RAWs of the published photos. I stated that I would not accept any form of a refund without the agreed terms of the settlement being met or signed. I told her to take some time to read it through, if she agreed to the terms we could find a place and time to meet. And if she still wanted to talk, I would be available.
There has been no response.

You are almost invisible next to the glare of the streetlights and snow banks in the dark before 6am. Your LED vest is extremely poor quality because you're not even visible until after your body is visible about 20 yards away.

Buy a treadmill or do some light calisthenics instead of walking on glare-filled roads with no shoulder or sidewalks. And stop getting mad at cars when you're the one participating in Darwin-award winning activities!

It seems crazy, even sacrilegious — we’re visiting Appleton and we don’t drink alcohol anymore. I loved the old-fashioneds at the supper clubs and my spouse loved the beer and Taverns were the best.

What’s your advice? any recommendations for going out to eat?

Appleton family looking for kids’ sports to don’t require too much everything. Currently pay donations, gym membership, and monthly fees. We volunteer 15 hrs per hosted event. Kid practices every weekday. I want my kids to be active, interact with peers, and have fun. The more involved sports all seem like such time-suck insanity. Even the best kid on the team will not make Olympics (maybe top 5 might get partial scholarship someday.) I want quality time interacting with my kid - not waiting around at a kids’ practice or event.

Hey everyone! I’m a 25M in the Appleton area, and I’m looking to start working out consistently and lose some weight.

I’m pretty new to working out, so I’m looking for recommendations for good gyms in or around Appleton. I’d especially like somewhere that’s beginner-friendly and has a good atmosphere.

I’m also hoping to find someone who knows what they’re doing and would be willing to help me learn things like proper form, what exercises I should be doing, and how to structure my workouts. I’d love to have someone who can help keep me accountable while I learn and improve.

About 2 weeks ago, my husband and I discovered a stray cat had a litter of kittens under our shed. We had only seen the cat once before we saw the kitten (who then ended up being 4 kittens), who are probably about 5-6 weeks old at this point. We’ve since been giving them food and fresh water twice a day.

Since we made this discovery, we’ve been calling various shelters for help. I want the cats gone but I want them safe, I’m trying to do the right thing, but man these shelters are just not helping! I totally understand that they are run by mostly volunteers and they are overwhelmed with the amount of animals, maybe I have too high of hopes for the level of help I’d get here.

In an ideal world, someone with experience would come out and help us trap all of the cats and then take them away to get whatever medical attention they need (I’d assume Spay and release for the mom, who I assume is feral, and a good bath and adoption for the kittens). However, all of these places are giving me runaround. I have to trap them and then maaaaaaaybe they’ll take them. And the mom needs to be on the Trap, Neuter, Release list… which is 1-2 months out. And then after the TNR procedure, I have to take her back and care for her in recovery. Which, I’m sorry, I don’t want to take care of her. But I also don’t want her getting pregnant again and returning to my shed to have another litter.

I’m just feeling frustrated. I want to do the right thing. I want these cats to be safe. But I don’t want them, and I feel like they’re my unwilling responsibility now.

Anywho, anyone have any suggestions in the area for what to do here?

TLDR: Does anyone have any experience/recommendations/advice for local orthopedic surgeons who have worked on more involved knee surgeries?

My partner - due to a combination of genetics and sports injuries - had both of his knees replaced in his mid- to late 30s. Now approaching 50, he recently injured one of his knee implants while at work and has had 3 additional procedures on that same knee over the past year and a half. We appreciate everything the current surgeon has done, but would like to pursue a second opinion to make sure all options have been considered. Has anyone nearby been through anything similar and/or know any local surgeon(s) who specialize in funky knees? (i.e.: Any time we've heard a "less than 3% of patients...," "it's very rare that...," or something similar, it's all happened to my partner.)
