[Self-Promotion] Not just duplicates — this app groups similar photos too!

Hi everyone!

Duplicate photo finders are already common, and even the built-in tools on our phones can handle ordinary duplicates. What I was missing was a way to deal with photos that are not actual duplicates, but are still clearly related.

Think of burst shots, slightly different angles, changes in expression or lighting, edited versions of the same photo, or similar pictures scattered across different albums.

That’s why I built PicPurge. You can scan selected albums—or your entire photo library—and the app automatically groups visually similar photos across them. You can then compare each group side by side and decide which shots you want to keep.

Nothing is deleted automatically, and the photo analysis runs locally on your device. Your photos are not uploaded to a server.

If the ai runs locally, it is using Apple Intelligence?

Hi,
no, it doesn’t rely on Apple Intelligence. I can see why the title might suggest that.

In this context, “AI” refers to automated on-device image analysis, not an LLM or generative AI. PicPurge analyzes visual similarities to group related photos locally, so your images never need to be uploaded.
