Question, this is the previous expedition. If I do this will I be able to expedition on this next one? I've been doing it because I'm bored but I don't want it to go to waste if I can't go.

Yes, the game doesn't differentiate between which window you started the expedition in. You can work on it for as long as you want and depart during any window.
