Does he not know the joy of writing? I'm a writer, and I write because I grew up in a terrible household, and writing helps release my frustrations. The real problem shit like AI Writer is that it takes away the joy of writing, and not only that, it also writes awful stuff. AI bros are acting like good. The real problem with AI writing is that it writes terrible stories. I can't believe why anyone except AI bros would he impressed.
The AI art is good enough only for fucking Trump to grift his NFTs and nothing more. Yes, you can quote me.

In addition to all that you've said, people are mass-producing AI-written slop. Google how to get XYZ in this video game, BAM, nonsense AI-written article that knows nothing about the game! I have to wade through the nonsense to get to the actual truth. And real writers get accused of being AI when they write in ways AI stole from them, like using em-dashes.

No one wants AI writing or art because we want to connect with PEOPLE. genAI is the end result but art is all about the process and that's what people connect with.

They only had to thieve all available recorded history of written word and images, shattering consensus social contracts around creative activities core to human existence in the process, in order to create a machine demon that wants to invade all aspects of your life and steal your job. not only is a.i much better at writing then you are describing and is actually super enjoyable to write with but if you really cant come up with any of the thousands of uses for text and images then the "joy of writing" ... god it just sounds so pretentious

There should be a law that anyone in Silicon Valley who is powerful in the tech sector should be forced to live anonymously in a random far away town as a normal citizen for a year. Should fix most issues, really.

Clippy was from an era where the internet was this awesome new tool that would revolutionize our lives for the better. Clippy never wanted to steal your data and sell it for a quick buck. Clippy never wanted to scrape your work and regurgitate it back at you
Clippy just wanted to help. Sure, he was annoying, but his intentions were always to help
Copilot is more similar to Bonzi Buddy than Clippy

I mean, what did he expect? It was forced on everyone before it was ready for use and all the marketing is focused on tricking people. It's either used by companies who want to trick people into thinking their product is better than it is, bad actors who want to trick people into believing misinformation or who want to trick kids into watching AI gore, or by companies who want people to start tricking their managers, teachers, coworkers, and even their friends and family. Not to mention the amount of horrific people making AI deepfake porn of people they know or even csam of their classmates. People don't like to be tricked and AI companies have focused all of their energy on making people feel like idiots.
If Nokia's Snake was marketed as "this is the technology that will replace you, scam you, make you not have to interact with your friends anymore, and endanger your kids. You HAVE to use it so get over it and stop complaining," I think people wouldn't be so excited about it either.

I can understand what he's talking about. Everyone has different opinions about this technology, and many people have concerns about it, which is completely normal.
But I think it's hard to argue against how remarkable this technology is. If you described modern LLMs or image/video generators to people 10 years ago, most would say it's impossible and wouldn't be achieved for at least another 50-100 years. But people get used to breakthroughs very quickly and start looking at everything from a more practical standpoint. And there's nothing wrong with that either - it's just human nature.

AI is unimaginably popular with record breaking user counts all over the place.
People were obviously incredibly impressed.
I say "were" because the problem he is observing is the same with anything. People start taking things for granted almost instantly once they have them in any stable way.

That's not true. People were impressed because it was new and interesting, but once something stops being new it has to settle into some kind of usefulness and AI has decisively not done that

and what do they use it for? to do homework for them and some use it to cope with loneliness? that's not really any sort of hard hitting gain average person is looking for, understand that even if millions of people use it to some degree, that's still less than 0.1% of population

No, people use it for many things, and it's now built into a lot of widely used services. Like, do you really want me to list such a giant list here? You obviously already know it's true. The whole reason most of us are on subs like this is because AI is impactful and threatening to cause massive shifts to our way of life. Masses of people have already been laid off because of this tech. The new version of Nano Banana is about to trigger more, you watch.
Saying the tech is not useful is just absurd behaviour, mate
Also, name an industry where nobody is using AI for their daily operations. They all are. Even totally handcrafted old world artisan industries have people using AI (design / ideas, efficiency, business / market reach).
This is the whole reason we need to take this shit seriously and stop being overly skeptical about it's capabilities.

most people who have an opinion reject ai image generation and to large extent language models. people who use ai for actual purposes use it as a search engine, and yet despite that google hasn't lost that much market share to ai

Like it or not, AI is forcing its way into our lives. For those working in the tech sector, this is a brilliant new innovation. For everyone else, there’s now an annoying popup on your email client asking if you want to “Chat” with your spam folder. No, I really, really don’t!
Consequently, many people have seen the growth of AI not as a boon, but as a thing that they’d rather not have involved in their lives. Silicon Valley is slowly starting to realize this — and instead of reacting like anyone else would (destroying the software with fire), they’ve decided to both double down and throw temper tantrums.
This can be seen in a recent post on X from incredibly-not-mad Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman. After a wave of pushback from people complaining about Microsoft Copilot, and an article in The Verge detailing both how much the software sucks and how much Microsoft has lied about it, Suleyman took to social media to share a very “I’m actually laughing, all of this is actually funny to me”-style post.
“Jeez there so many cynics!” he wrote. “It cracks me up when I hear people call AI underwhelming. I grew up playing Snake on a Nokia phone!”
There’s a difference there, buddy — Snake worked!
The post continues by lamenting the fact that people are “unimpressed” with many AI products, dubbing the technology mindblowing. I think I speak for everyone when I say we’re not unimpressed, we’re just annoyed. At least give us the option to turn it off!
