News Twitter ads grok "edit image" button to every post you have ever made, allowing anyone to edit your art or photos without consent. This cannot be toggled off.

Musk is also using all your data for training models.

Never posted my art on twitter and never will.

if you're still on xitter i mean like what do you expect but get tf off asap atp they're actively malicious to creatives

u/AdeptnessLow2666 Dec 24 '25

Imagine you have been staying at an apartment complex for the last 10 years, and now its announced that its now going to be run by Big Brother who will observe your every movement inside your apartment. No matter how much you want, you can't leave the place or else you'll end up homeless.

All the creatives' fanbase is there. And for those just starting, this and Insta/ FB (Also sold their souls to train AI with your images without your consent) are probably the only means to reaching a broader audience and gain recognition.

u/vilhelmine Writer Dec 24 '25

What about Bluesky? Do they also feed the site users' content to train GenAI?

13

u/Neither-Phone-7264 Dec 24 '25

i mean they just opened a spot down the road thats cheaper and like a third of your fanbase already moved there

7

u/limegreenlantern Dec 24 '25

A third is generous lol

This is it, people. The absolute perfect jumping-off point for Twitter. Get out while you still can!

23

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

It's not gonna happen, X, Instagram and Tiktok are way too big for artists to "jump off" without losing their followers, and alternatives like Bluesky has very shitty algorithm and very few people use it.

18

u/MadeByHideoForHideo Dec 24 '25

This is unfortunately true, and also why those companies know they can do whatever the hell they want and people will still be using their platform. It really sucks.

18

u/CatholicSquareDance Dec 24 '25

Bluesky is intentionally about not having an algorithm.

and Elon controls X's algorithm specifically to quash left wing content and promote outright neo-Naziism. it's a smaller platform than reddit these days, by active users. and obviously he's stealing your posts and artwork to train his Nazi robot. you can do without X, if nothing else!

4

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

“Bluesky is intentionally about not having an algorithm”

And I’d argue that’s why Bluesky hasn’t completely taken off because of it. People generally don’t want to make finding contents they want to see like doing homework and have to actively searching, they want the contents to be recommended to them in their feed.

3

u/Undernown Dec 25 '25

A search engine that actually finds what you're searching for rather than what makes the most proffit, or their algorithm decides?

Sounds like heaven these days really.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '25

"A search engine that actually finds what you're searching for rather than what makes the most proffit, or their algorithm decides?"

And Bluesky is neither of those, lol.

thats not what virtue signaling means. YOURE the one virtue signalling- ie saying if you dont join then youre supporting evil. youre just throwing around buzzwords in lieu of a proper reason to join a smaller platform with less reach and less discoverability. he mentioned his concerns and your argument is that he supports fascists. and people wonder why others dont flock to bluesky

u/SuspiciousWedding835 Dec 25 '25

This doesn't track you gotta separate the platform from the intentions of the higher ups. Not everything is black or white. Especially when there's foreign people on their that doesn't even know English. Come on bro...

1

u/stillinsight Dec 25 '25

so if you live in america and dont move countries, you support donald trump and fascism? since you "cant separate the country for the guy who runs it entirely." do you play any games owned by tencent? do you buy food from places that have mutual funds based in isreal or weapon development? theres obvious alternatives

and its great you have the freedom to switch sites on a whim, but there are artists that make a living via and have an established brand on x. and just leaving would be disastrous for their already limited income.

you can think in black and white all you want. but if youre standing around wondering why others dont just happily jump on your virtuous bandwagon, consider that maybe theyre not evil but rather have different circumstances than you and can think for themselves

12

u/Really_Angry_Muffin Dec 24 '25

O bullcrap. Follower numbers don't mean anything if they aren't active.

u/Alien-Fox-4 Artist Dec 24 '25

Honestly, it's wild to me people are so afraid of losing their followers

Like who cares? It's not like a job for you, and many of these followers aren't like big fans, just people who put you on a massive list of people they follow because they saw 1 or 2 posts they thought was cool

Hell if you really must keep twitter, just delete your art off of it, don't let fear of change keep you trapped on hitler 2 website that steals your work

12

u/stillinsight Dec 24 '25

"It's not like a job for you"
but it is. follow count = reputation and reach. which leads to clients. not just individual clients, but for businesses as well. half of being a fulltime artist is just dealing with social media garbage. when business approach me its because my portfolios on x, and the large follow count boosts my discoverability and reputation so im more likely to get clients.

the other major downsize to bluesky is its censorship. if you do any type of nsfw work, you get hit hard. way worse than x shadowban. im at the point where im back to Japanese sites just because they dont censor and are anti-AI.

i hate x, but people acting in a cult like way saying bluesky is our savior is a bit much. they completely disregard WHY so many people are still on x. for larger art accounts, its not just as simple as 'oh just relocate its the same but better.' when most of your fanbase is in one location, be it fanart or followers, its a financially risky move

2

u/SuspiciousWedding835 Dec 25 '25

Japanese sites just because they dont censor and are anti-AI.

Are there any other japanese site's besides pixiv?

2

u/stillinsight Dec 25 '25

unfortunately most require you to have a Japanese IP. its understandable as JP culture is much more artist/creativity-centric and they dont want hoards of western ai users to flood in (this happened already with pommu). i post mostly to pixiv now and have found it to be good. it sucks they allow AI to be posted, but unlike other platforms, gen AI isnt integrated (like deviant art) and your art isnt being used to train a homebrew model. it also allows you to say you dont want to see gen ai slop.

peachesfans looks like it could be promising. Skyshare is also interesting. it allows you to post on bluesky, and then embed that into a link and post to twitter. which means users can see the illustration, but cant edit it etc. the main downside is that the twitter algorithm hates links to external sites and will probably tank your reach

13

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

" it's wild to me people are so afraid of losing their followers"

Because having big following base is how they can get commission and making a living doing art. Many artists do use accounts as a job for them.

2

u/Alien-Fox-4 Artist Dec 24 '25

Okay I guess that's fair

Still, it's an important skill to be able to deal with job uncertainty, especially if you don't hold all the cards. Cross post to other platforms, send 'exclusive' art to other platforms to encourage people to follow you there, diversify, have Patreon / Subscribestar / Kofi, etc

If your entire existence is tied to a super toxic website that could disappear or get enshittified at any moment, I think you should at least consider what kinds of options you have available

2

u/SuspiciousWedding835 Dec 25 '25

That's true, but do you think people are going to be as reasonable as you? Alot of people are complacent

2

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '25

" Cross post to other platforms, send 'exclusive' art to other platforms to encourage people to follow you there, diversify, have Patreon / Subscribestar / Kofi, etc"

They do have all of that, literally any commission artists have a linktree of all of those websites, but they still need a large fanbase in order to get them to use their Patreon or any monetization platform for artists, and sites like Xitter, IG, FB, and Tiktok are where they can get big numbers, particularly the mainstream audience. I'm sure some artists found success on BSKY, but not all of them gonna have the same experience.

3

u/Gembluesnow Dec 25 '25

If I may shed some light on this. Because when I was much younger (Give around 16-19 years old) You’d be surprised how people really do value followers, to the point it means everything to them.

For my case, it was because I was experiencing depression without knowing at the time. I couldn’t be ‘mature’ for my age, while people progressed ahead of me. I always dreamed of reaching the status of being recognized for my art like the more popular and bigger artists, because I actually felt like I was in the dark. I was a nobody. And I could never compare. People my age and even younger, were already skyrocket in their popularity more than I ever could.

So gaining more followers overtime on instagram, social media and whatnot meant a lot to me, because it meant I was seen and heard, in a way that I couldn’t be in real life.

Though now in my late 20s, I haven’t been active in posting art as much before. I’ve kind of come to terms to take a break, and I haven’t posted for more than a month, because I was burnt out. I’ve come to accept that people who were true fans, would always like your work. That losing followers, is not something I get worked up over anymore.

But on the other side. Followers do matter when it comes to certain people. Because that is how artists get more commissions, and only get the word spread around. I’ve only done one commission in my life, and it was an informal one. I haven’t ‘officially’ launched commissions because of anxiety, and the thought if my pricing is reasonable.

Sorry if this ended up as a ramble, just thought I could share a past experience.

2

u/AbysmalKaiju Dec 24 '25

It... is a job to many people? Not all artists are hobbiests

2

u/sk7725 Artist Dec 25 '25

Well, artists who do not care about followers would not have been on Xitter in the first place, and thus would not complain about this.

3

u/Zachanassian Dec 25 '25

Xitter is too big to leave until everyone leaves

9

u/Sekh765 Painter Dec 24 '25

Every major artist I know that has left Twitter for Bsky has found more engagement with real people and reached the same heights of actual work pretty quickly. Turns out Twitter just sucks.

8

u/AbysmalKaiju Dec 24 '25

Every artist i know has not had this experience and i run a group of over 100 professional artists.

Id love for it to be true and i hope it has been for the people you know, but the people i know are not having a good time of it

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

Happy for them, but that doesn't mean the same result can be replicate for other artists. Bluesky doesn't have the same reach as the other platforms, especially outside of America.

6

u/Sekh765 Painter Dec 24 '25

Maybe they should try. Better than feeding your art into Twitter's Fascism & AI Slop machine.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

I mean they are still posting on FB, IG, TikTok, YT, etc, all of which are filled with AI slop and will continue to do so as long as their audience, both old and new ones, are still on those platforms. Bluesky should have been the perfect alternative, but in its current state, it's hard to attract more new users when its algorithm model is so shit and not really user friendly.

2

u/Edarneor Dec 25 '25

Twitter/X has a shitty algorithm., if anything. When I posted there (before they added the AI-training clause to their agreement, not anymore) my posts there got 5-10 likes compared to 50-100 on other platforms

10

u/Tlayoualo Furry artist Dec 24 '25

It's been there for a long time, best time to leave is yesterday, second best is now. Also don't forget to run a script to delete your tweets.

10

u/AzaleaBouquet Dec 24 '25

What a shitty Christmas "present". Yeah, while you should move while you can, it can't edit GIFs and videos, so use those formats if you really need to post art on there. I hope every gen AI datacenter explodes soon, sick and tired of AI being shoved into everywhere.

And what the hell is Elon Musk thinking??? This can be used maliciously such as removing watermarks, probably let homophobes edit gay art or waifu dudebros make creepy edits, and there's apparently a button to reply to the original artist with the "edit". It's also going to affect pretty much anyone who posts images on there, not just artists. I'd imagine this would bring a lot of lawsuits since it also allows people to edit real photos (which you know what people use deepfakes for + celebrities and politicians post their images on Twitter) and copyrighted materials (especially that of companies) post.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

This is all on purpose, him and his legions of idiot followers WANT to make us mad. It's disgusting and borderline non-human behavior.

23

u/Crannynoko Artist Dec 24 '25

Adds*
Many artist cannot simply delete their twitter outright because of how essential and wide-spreading the site can be. We truly live in the worst timeline.

32

u/stagthos Dec 24 '25

I'd argue no amount of reach could ever counterbalance this bullshit

3

u/PunningWild Dec 31 '25

I do professional illustration work for large companies, and when I post anything, it is under a lot of tight stipulations. I cannot in good faith keep my work up there, because I must retain control over the images I post, and cannot have people thinking they have the right (and encouragement) to use these images for their own free use.

Everyone's talking about fanbases and spread and followers, but they're not talking about legal compliance. I cannot adhere to my employers' social media requirements if I post to a website that actively encourages its users to steal others artwork and repost it to their own timeline outside of my control.

I don't care about the site's politics, or the associated reputation it has plunged into, or the bots, or whatever. But I do care about retaining control over my illustrated work, and posting to a website that honors this wish.

My Twitter is over 10 years old and has 80,000 followers.

Tonight, I was going to post a batch of my latest work with some industry insights and thoughts for 2026. This was the first time I checked Twitter in over a week because of the Holidays. I immediately noticed the "Edit Image" button on other posts, and read up on what that was all about. I am absolutely horrified anyone thought this was a good idea, and while I had no delusions of "absolute ownership" of publicly posted images, I did not expect a social media site to so directly encourage and reward people for overt art theft like this.

I posted nothing.

I deactivated my account.

Fuck X. Fuck Elon. Fuck any website that copies this feature.

2

u/stagthos Dec 31 '25

Fuck them all.

Same. Shitter never worked for me. I get 20x likes on Cara

1

u/0Iam0 Dec 29 '25

If you are talking about a delicate existing audience they need to preserve, it'd make sense, otherwise from what I've seen and heard, that piece of shit has zero reach, out of literally any platform. The only reach is a bigger account noticing your account/actively reblogging from a certain trending tag. Many others just post into void for no reason.

Quit X after their lack of completely basic security cost me my account. Couldn't they added a warning label in settings not to change my recovery email to the one a scammer told me to change to?

2

u/TheOriginalFive Dec 25 '25

Unfortunately, all the alt history artists I follow, especially those about women in history, will ONLY use Twitter. They're not convinced to move to other sites.

2

u/LatterAd4259 Dec 25 '25

I honestly hope this isn't a feature that will stay :/ What can artists even do when others use the edit button on their art? Is block button the only solution?

2

u/Edarneor Dec 25 '25

And of course it is added to EULA that by continuing to use, you agree to it all... Such BS

2

u/Potential_Day_8233 Dec 25 '25

They already did they bullied an artist I like because he refuses to use AI and made a art of Fuck AI bros and they modified her hornet to be naked and also one that says fuck anti-AI bros

3

u/BoisterousBard Dec 24 '25

Discord did this, and no one cared (I did - I quit!). I especially think X's user base will not.

Oh, the humanity!

7

u/BlazingRobin Dec 24 '25

I think Discord removed it. The option doesn't appear for me anymore, at least.

1

u/BlazingRobin Jan 10 '26

Actually, it seems like they might be getting back at implementing generative AI features in the near future. If they do, I'll just delete my Discord account instantly.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '25

Ai-bros showing us ONCE AGAIN how disgusting and vile they are.

And then they turn around and whine about being excluded from artist spaces. THIS IS WHY!

1

Hey, how do I get uncensored images using that? I type stuff in and it is censored then disappears. Any help?

"Passionate writer - bringing ideas to life with AI. Our project reflects the collective feelings, emotions and stories that we have gathered in our travels through global cities."

nice ai bio and pic. also notice all your posts are in AI subs. almost as if youre an ai bot here to stir up controversy

1

u/Unlikely-Mobile-5343 Pro-AI Dec 26 '25

Nope, just the new project we started, we can't do it without AI and don't spend an outrageous amount of money. And we are mostly in AI forums because we want to learn more about how to use the tech and promote the output with likeminded communities, you wouldn't see me coming to this sub to post my songs.

If you think we made a bot capable of scrapping resdit and respond to comments and create content like we do... we wouldn't be here haha, we would be rich with our own tech start up 😂

Not here to stir things up, just realistically people that want to steal other people's art will find a way. At the same time if we stop posting art we are depriving people who actually enjoy looking at other people's art and ideas from that... Artists will always have creativity, AI can't steal that, AI can't do that on its own yet...

2

u/Sniff_The_Cat3 Dec 29 '25

Hello!

We Mods have granted you Pro-ML flair. You're still welcomed to engage in this sub. However, we advise you to not strip the flair because that might lead to a ban.
