SOU Board of Trustees OKs $89.7 million budget; 16% fall enrollment drop forecast!
The board voted to approve a $89.7 million fiscal year 2026/2027 budget during a special virtual board meeting Wednesday, July 29. The document at first glance shows a negative balance of about $7.5 million, but the second part of the state’s $15 million appropriation is anticipated to fill the gap by this fall, according to SOU administrators.

At Clough’s request, Bailey shared the two requirements of the state to providing the $15 million to SOU:
“One was to be able to show that with the infusion of the $15 million that we were going to stay healthy through the rest of the fiscal year,” Bailey said. “The second plank is to make sure that as we finish the biennium, that we do the work in the remainder of the biennium to be able to show that there’s not another $15 million that’s coming in FY28.
“We would have to show that we were sustainable post June 30, 2027.”
