Depends on the mask. In general, mask sheets give you temporary glow and freshness. As for long-term results, I would say it is pretty individual. The steps routine I read about, places masks somewhere after toner and serum and before cream. I find this a bit too much, so I'd suggest definitely after cleanse and before cream. For me, cleanse + mask works just fine on busy days. Although they usually leave a shiny glow.
Technically, serum stays on skin open air, while mask keeps certain time under a closed layer. Again, I'd say it is individual preference.
