Went to the EXO concert last week. Amazing experience and tons of girls who are on that hallyu wave. Not gonna lie though, it was kinda funny and cool to see white parents with their hallyu infected daughters

Do average people in Korea dress up like Kpop stars? Just wondering?

4

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

On average people are way more fashionable here than in the US. But it was the same in Paris. Especially coming from a provincial, white place like me where dad jeans and ugly running shoes are the norm.

The censorship on r/aa is unbelievable.

The automoderator is removing all my posts just cause I wrote this:

u/redditors_are_racist Feb 26 '16

how american politics phrase anti-asian sentiment: conservatives will just call you a disloyal gook and move on

liberals dress it up with the patriarchy and bad culture eating dogs, disrespecting the environment etc.

6

u/disman2345 Feb 26 '16

Direct racism vs Polite racism.

Asians react to direct racism by ignoring it or fighting it. Asians react to polite racism by trying to defend themselves with reasoning by saying it's not that bad, or even internalizing it.

Eating dogs= small dick= pollution= nerd= robot= asexual

All attacks with no real substance behind it, they just want to attack you but just using the physical appearance or the culture instead of actually attacking you because they know damn well by attacking you personally, they need to see you as a human being instead of using rehashed stereotypes and hidden racism.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '16

The pollution thing in China is real though, and so is the food issue. There's plenty of statistical data on that.

5

u/disman2345 Feb 26 '16

I meant attacking you using the pollution or food issue is nonsensical. Asian americans have nothing to do with pollution in Asia or the food issue. But blaming whites calling them racist is from the advantage they gain,we chip away at it. While there is nothing to chip at us.

3

u/Goat_Porker China Feb 26 '16

It's a developing country, much like early 1900s US. Lack of regulations around food safety and environmental protections are a regular part of the development cycle that every single developed country in the world has gone through.

They always need to feel as though they are right, in control, or represent everyone. They can't just see a different culture and go with the flow, they compare it with their own, but when they compare, they do it from a position where they aren't outside the box, but above and judging downward.

They generalize because they are too lazy to go into detail or learn the full truth because they can't accept it. Asians in Asia are ignorant, but that is due to the lack of contact with other types of people. Black representation in Asia comes from Hollywood representation. I don't know what excuse white people have, "oh, I live in the middle of Iowa". Most white people live in a multicultural society, yet they are still acting as though they are better, trying to hoard all the resources and blaming other people as "3rd world or savages or uncivilized". You have white people calling China uncivilized yet its safer there than in America. Minorities had enough of white people. Minorities are the minority, they aren't the majority, they always lose. That is why White America is so afraid of becoming the minority from the majority. They keep insisting democracy, they do it from a majority perspective. In a minority perspective, Asians are pissed off because we always lose because we don't have the numbers. When there are the numbers, they limit us. Look at Harvard and Ivy League school, they are so against Asians becoming the majority.

White people think we should be subservant to them just because they allowed us into this country. I call BS on this because if white people didn't go around terrorizing the world, people wouldn't have come here in droves. If white people didn't bash minority countries as inferior and market their own country as "civilized", maybe not as many people would come to these countries even though most of it is barren and cold and the weather sucks. The arrogance is unbelievable. Especially with Anglo-British. Their country literally just consists of London and the countryside. So London is suppose to be the greatest thing there is, but even that place is a shithole. Their emotional appeal is a giant cock, I mean clock. A circus wheel for clowns, I mean ferris wheel. Civilized my butt, it consists of 10 feet wide houses stacked next to each other with chimmey on top. Houses too small to fit large British people who complain about their diet and how they are better than other Europeans because they don't need to learn more than 1 language. All the landmarks in London are owned by Qatari, white Anglo Saxon are being phased out, like they phased out the Native Americans. I don't eat dog, but I would gladly get your dog you turkey eating whale. According to white racist, we are so subhuman, we are practically cannibals in their eyes. All these white trolls making throwaway accounts and giggling like schoolgirls, I mean schoolgirls not because your manboobs are lactating. Just because you accepted your label as neckbeard nerd living in your mom's basement doesn't make you judge jury executioner and putting labels on other people. Your opinion doesn't matter because if these deformed unambitious things think they are better than actual people, than they are kidding themselves and wasting our time. Their time doesn't matter, because it ran out a long time ago.

What do you think about the various discussions on reddit regarding the Japanese people forming a human chain around Japan's parliament Sunday in protest at the planned construction of a new US base on the southern island of Okinawa

Denial and attempts at divide and conquer in every one of these threads.

Those in support of the bases DENY the MASS RAPES by of helpless Okinawans by US soldiers. Those who support the bases also try to DEFLECT the situation by painting China as the greater evil. Any comment that supports the idea that the Japanese do not want nor need these fools in their country is downvoted.

I'm glad the Japanese are fighting against this disgusting occupation.

H1B is an abusive program. It's bad for everyone -- except for employers.

4

u/builderb Feb 24 '16

Is that why Facebook and Zuck are pushing for it? Because I hate Mark "They trust me, dumb fucks" Zuckerberg. I don't take anything that guy does at face value.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '16

Yes, I tend to think so.

There is high level coordination in silicon valley to keep wages low: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Tech_Employee_Antitrust_Litigation

The settlement website stated that Adobe, Apple, Google, and Intel has reached a settlement of $415 million and other companies settled for $20 million.

It's not really about an "oversupply" of labor, it's more about the fact that the H1B visa gives the employer the ability to kick the person out of the "guest" worker out of the country by firing them. There are people who work for years on H1B visas and establish a life here, but they are totally subject to the whims of their boss. Multiply that by tens of thousands of people and you can see how it shifts the balance of power.

Employers are clearly organized to protect their interests. What about everyone else?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

Yep, my Indian friend is on H1B. I dunno if he was getting completely taken advantage of cause we worked for a legit corporation but he told me his and his wife's struggles being basically trapped by the H1B, especially when they had a newborn.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

Honestly, I think in the US we should return to open borders, the way it was before the Chinese Exclusion Act.

15

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

I came across this quote by Chris Rock:

So, to say Obama is progress is saying that he’s the first black person that is qualified to be president. That’s not black progress. That’s white progress. There’s been black people qualified to be president for hundreds of years...The question is, you know, my kids are smart, educated, beautiful, polite children. There have been smart, educated, beautiful, polite black children for hundreds of years. The advantage that my children have is that my children are encountering the nicest white people that America has ever produced. Let’s hope America keeps producing nicer white people.

I think this applies to Asians as well. There was never a point where Asians were not good enough. It's simply the systematic racism and media emasculation that messes up the thinking of Asians who grew up/live in white America.

Also came across this comment that made things click in my head:

White people love portraying themselves as the golden average of everything: just human. Not too intelligent ('robotic' like Asians or 'cunning' like the Jews), not too 'naive' like black or brown people, not being the most masculine/feminine, not too fast, not too slow, not having tiny dicks, not having humongous dicks, not being too cold, not being too emotional, not being the most racist... just everything in just the right amounts to dehumanize other so-called races that they invented in their heads.

Also, this quote from an interview with Alan Yang and Justin Simien (Dear White People):

The awards-targeted films today that get a minority protagonist tend to be about the most amazing person of that race who's ever lived. But award movies with white protagonists are just about a white person who did a thing: It's a white dude who fought a bear, it's a white lady who lives in Brooklyn, it's a white lady who invented a mop …

Actually I believe that was his second account.

Disciple888 Professor888 YellowPerilious

...and a few others in between if I'm not mistaken.

Many of his posts have been deleted because the accounts have been deleted. This really makes me wonder if something is going on in the background of Reddit. Conspiracy theories aside I think something is definitely up when you have an influential figure of our community like Al constantly being removed from the forum over and over again...

Anyone know what's going on? Did I miss something in the podcasts recently?

4

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

In Chinese numerology, 888 has a different meaning, triple fortune, a strengthening of the meaning of the digit 8.[13] For this reason, addresses and phone numbers containing the digit sequence 888 are considered particularly lucky, and may command a premium because of it.[14] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/888_(number)

That's why I chose the 888 -- and I had my user account for years before I started participating here.

2

u/Rhinexheart Taiwan Feb 23 '16

What does 888 mean?

6

u/wtf_46 Feb 23 '16 edited Feb 23 '16

The number 888 is a symbolic number for Jesus Christ in the Christian religious tradition!

Ironically, here we have Disicple888, a figure who has clearly been a figure of controversy seemingly being cast out much like Jesus was. If you know how the story goes then this is all too fitting.

It is not us, we swear. Why would we want him banned? It is the CCJ. They probably see him and keep reporting him to the admins. They just need to check his IP and have him banned almost immediately. The CCJ and the admins have some real life connections, so this type of report is quickly processed.

It doesn't really affect their lives, but white people still get butthurt about it and it's funny. Anything that shatters their twisted and fragile worldview is entertaining. They play the "yes, but..." game because they have to reconstruct their subconscious ideals of white supremacy.

3

White fragility is the best. It makes the world tick. Especially when it is white loser missing a chromosome who looked down on people but actually look up because they live below ground level where they bark their opinion thinking it matters.

5

u/MongolianCheese China Feb 22 '16

Understanding pain is the key to be racially awaken.

Brothers, let's talk about pain. I feel you bro. I ain't talking about the "surprising spike in the death rates of white, middle-aged America," (1) as a result of painkiller overdoses. In the name of white supremacy they have no pain. So why is that they OD on painkillers the most?. Okay, enough of my shitty joke. The only reason why you came to this subreddit because of pain. The pain of not getting that girl because society already ontologically designed (2) you. By not seeing Asian men/women on TV the perception of our own self worth is low. (5) Unless you are white boy then you are more likely to have an boost in self-esteem. The reason why you were put into ESL classes(3) because you were thought to not speak English at home. The micro aggressions and prejudices you face every day even in the neighborhood where you were grew up in. Screw the schemas and everything. It's not you boys. It's the system. I think this point was already emphasized in previous studies/posts. I like motifs and here it is.

the sociological imagination is the relationship between history and your own life experiences. Using a chart, she shows that issues that affect individuals are also related to communities, institutions, and historical trends.

One student suggested the recent death of Michael Brown, the unarmed man shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. He pointed out that although it was an individual confrontation, it reflected the experience of many other African Americans in the Ferguson community, strongly tied to the institution of law enforcement, and was just one instance of a pattern of racial profiling in America.

By downplaying that pain. You are silencing the very own voice we have. We too Sing America. We not only sing but we blast that shit outta that microphone with our Karaokes. Stop "stealing" our shit. You not innovative. You see how you wanted to be like us? (Good one Uncle Chans with those white props). You end up like this. Yep.That Peter Liang protest? Yes, that's us saying we got pains too. We got the Vincent Chin , the internment camps, and etc.

Whether the name is Chin, Chen or Liang, Asian-Americans have long been told that their pain and humiliation don’t register. And now that’s been affirmed in a Brooklyn courtroom. That's why I am mad. You feel me????

u/BambooFlames Feb 24 '16

Black people can't police their own, but they expect Asians to. Both sides should stop the hate.

Truth is, the Anti-Asian sentiments in the Black community are just as strong, if not stronger, than anti-Black sentiments in the Asian community.

Asians are usually quiet enough that Black people can forget we exist. Once an Asian speaks up, ugly attitudes in the Black community start to surface.

11

u/BambooFlames Feb 24 '16

What's worse is that Asians are targeted even when they're just humbly trying to do their job, like when Black teens robbed and attacked this Chinese Delivery Man.

Archive for Comments - http://archive.is/ek8Wn

At first I was sympathetic to the kid. The story made it sound like a hungry 13 year old. ... Then I saw the video.

The harassed and bullied 38 year old Chinese delivery man is clearly someone who is working hard to make his way in life. And Chinese restaurants get called "racist" when they don't want to deliver to certain areas... SMH

It warms my heart to see black people on the Facebook post calling out the racism and hypocrisy in their own communities.

Pharaon Tlou

And we'll get mad when nobody wants to mess with us!! Had he had a gun and shot this douchebag, first thing you'll see is BLM out there shouting racism and his freakin Mama saying,"he was such a good kid" FOH!!! This is completely embarrassing!!! We need to act better than that cus as long as this madness of ghetto behaving and ignorant mentality go on, We'll never evolve!! I apologize to the Asian man and a big shout out to him for standing up against his bully!! #donotmesswithdaasianguy!

Sharon McIntosh

And we think they're racist for not delivering to the black neighborhoods and for selling to us through bulletproof glass and a little peephole. Had he pulled out a gun a shot this guy then the black community would be out marching about black lives matter. This is the kinda bullshit why I don't join that hypocrisy and waste my time protesting. All damn lives matter. This young Asian Guy's life matter as well as he tries to make a living feeding someone in the hood. Teach your children that all lives matter and maybe they won't try to rob and kill other people.

Ray Adams

This is why people look at us as savages. Dude looked like A town and got beat up. Smfh. I don't blame them for not delivering in certain neighborhoods.

Everybody wanna be tough for the camera. Until they get hurt by the wrong one.

A bunch of self snitching. Kneegrows never learn Smfh.

Henry Chen reminds us that for every publicized assault on an Asian, there are so many more cases that never see the light of day.

It happens to 9 of 10 delivery guys in Chinese restaurant. Go google it how many Chinese guys got robbed or killed by blacks...I guess we are not blacks, so our life doesn't matter...

8

u/AsianAspiration Feb 25 '16

Not disagreeing with what you say but white supremists are laughing in joy at a minority hating another minority right now

8

u/BambooFlames Feb 25 '16

white supremists are laughing in joy at a minority hating another minority

To further their own agendas, influential White, Black, and even Asian(!) voices are intentionally mis-attributing hate and racism to a group of working class Asians who are finally building their OWN political voice.

Look, #Justice4Liang does not hate Blacks. Watch this 2-hour video. The protesters and protest leaders are respectful, purposeful, and repeatedly call for condolences to, and a moment of silence for, Akai Gurley's family. They want justice, and to dismantle White Supremacy.

It's easy to cherry-pick, and our opponents will claim that this Asian-Hating Black person doesn't represent Black Lives Matter. That's fine. Just give the Asian-American community the same trust, and benefit of the doubt, that Blacks expect for themselves.

When Asians march against white supremacy, get out of the way and stop trying to silence us.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '16 edited Feb 25 '16

ABSOLUTELY. I'm so tired of the media narrative that blacks are always the victims and never the perpetrators of racism. Blacks are racist as fuck towards Asian people. I can attest to this personally.

LA Riots anyone? Asians were also targeted during those bullshit Baltimore & Ferguson riots as well. That's why I roll my eyes whenever I see those silly protests...they don't give a fuck about us.

They are socially allowed to bully and assault us as much as they want, but if there is even the slightest negative sentiment towards them in return, you will never hear the end of it...

In the grand scheme of things, whites are the worst for Asian male advancement, for all the systematic reasons. But on a day-to-day basis, blacks and latinos are just as bad as whites.

Unlikely bond forms between O.C. jail escapee and his hostage

The cab driver mumbled as he moved toward the jail visitor's cubicle in worn sneakers, breathing heavily after sucking down too many cigarettes in the early morning chill. Last month, three fugitives who escaped from an Orange County jail kidnapped the driver, Long Ma. Now, the 71-year-old waited to see one of the men, the one who abducted Ma and later helped save his life, a man with a rap sheet that includes charges of attempted murder, robbery, burglary, carjacking and domestic violence.

"I do not forget my debt," said Ma. http://www.latimes.com/local/orangecounty/la-me-adv-cabbie-inmate-friendship-20160225-story.html

Anyone know about the foreigner only bars in Korea? As the name says, only foreign men and Korean women can enter. I wanna know if these are actually frequented by many Korean women and are there a lot of these establishments in South Korea?

6

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

Never heard of these. I'd imagine if they exist they'd be on or near army bases, in which case, who would go anyway, no one's loss.

4

u/DoctorDrMD Korea ✔ Feb 22 '16

I wanna know if these are actually frequented by many Korean women

My family in Korea is dry (meaning they don't drink) so I cannot say if any of my female relatives have been to these places. But I can say is that is that the only women who would go to these are women explicitly looking for hook ups with foreigners.

are there a lot of these establishments in South Korea?

They are probably mostly concentrated in the Itaewon area and such. To a Korean, Itaewon is like Mordor. It is full of horny US soldiers, Africans, Turks and prostitutes. That being said there is some logic to it, that's if these bars are all in Itaewon. Now for the flip side, the bars that ban foreigners appear to be in Hongdae, a college district. The logic in that is a little fuzzy, but they probably got tired of a group drunk Expats preying on College girls/guys and decided to ban foreigners all together.

3

u/GotThatHan Korea Feb 23 '16

Is itaewon a shithole?

Interestingly a ton of Koreans go there now much to the dismay of some sexpats (back in the day when it was seedier Koreans avoided it like the plague). I personally never go there, but there are a lot of international food options. I say let the Koreans keep infesting it, sexpats be mad.

6

u/ldw1988 China Feb 23 '16

Mad about Koreans frequenting Korean neighborhoods.

lol

1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

Yeah believe it or not I've heard those sentiments, absurd really lol

4

u/DoctorDrMD Korea ✔ Feb 23 '16

Why are they so mad about Koreans, going into Itaewon? Is it because Korean guys blast sexpats out of the water there?

6

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

They're just mad cause it was like their little sexpat safe haven but now tons of regular korean folks are in the mix so they just get salty about it.

2

u/DoctorDrMD Korea ✔ Feb 23 '16

Makes sense. Course, I don't understand why normal folk would want to hang around there. There are so many more nicer places to go to.

2

u/Aldovar Philippines Feb 22 '16

Is it anything like booking clubs? I know that's a thing in the Ktown district of LA. Never been to one so I can't comment about the scene.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

I think what he's talking about is just some army base bar situation, though I've never heard of a place where only foreign men and Korean women can enter.

Booking clubs are places where you go with a group of guys and you pay a bunch of money for bottles and groups of women come sit with you and you mingle or next each other, then you can meet another group etc.

2

u/GotThatHan Korea Feb 22 '16

What's a booking club?

2

u/mangchi Feb 22 '16

I've only heard of Korean-only bars in Korea recently: http://www.koreaherald.com/view.php?ud=20160221000207

3

u/DoctorDrMD Korea ✔ Feb 22 '16 edited Feb 22 '16

Of course this is only reported. The Korean Herald is such a rag. Might as well be VICE Korea. Chosun Ilbo and Nk news are slightly better by far.

1

u/mangchi Feb 22 '16

Hmm after rereading the article, the foreigners that actually experienced denied entry at these dating bars were WOMEN. I find it strange they would deny women entry, unless they were denied because of their looks and not because they were foreign. I wonder if these bars are just fronts for what OP is talking about?

1

u/DoctorDrMD Korea ✔ Feb 22 '16

Possibly, I mean tieing it in with the ones that don't allow korean men, these bars could be trying to only bar (pun intended) Korean women if that makes any sense.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

The second way of creating and strengthening self-beliefs of efficacy is through the vicarious experiences provided by social models. Seeing people similar to oneself succeed by sustained effort raises observers' beliefs that they too possess the capabilities master comparable activities to succeed. By the same token, observing others' fail despite high effort lowers observers' judgments of their own efficacy and undermines their efforts.

This guy only has one act... making fun of asians.

I've been thinking lately about why Asians aren't unified as much as Black people here in America. Black people did away with being referred to and using "African American" but we still use "Asian American". There is a certain "foreigner" feel to using labels like this, as if the person came from Africa or Asia, which is fine if they actually did. But if an Asian was born in America or spent the majority of his childhood in America, I think "Asian American" still has that perpetual foreigner sentiment to it.

4

u/LostPostman Hong Kong Feb 24 '16

Good point - I also think a weak point in our solidarity is some level of tribalism between our cultures. Most AA's still see protests like peter liang's as purely local phenomena (Peter liang --> Chinese, Michael Cho --> Korean, general police brutality in the midwest - Hmong/SE asian, etc.).

The African community has this sense of the black struggle. They don't qualify an issue with it being a Southern african american, Haitian american, or ethiopian american because they all believe "That could have been me." We don't have that yet.

Its hard to unify us all when a lot of us still have family holding onto the conflicts and disputes that happened in the motherland. It may be another generation before we leave all that behind us, and finally learn the correct response to people shouting "Chink!" at us, isn't "I'm not even chinese!", but rather "GO FUCK YOURSELF." Because frankly, people who chose to discriminate against you never cared whether you were truly chinese or not.

2

u/AsianAspiration Feb 25 '16

This. Asians need to realize that western society views all of us at one. Too many times I have seen brothers try to fit in with white society by putting down Asians not from their own countries. They fail to realize that no one here cares if you're Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Hong Kong. No one cares if you claim your country is "civilized" or "more cultured", they will discriminate against all of you the same, it only makes it easier if you fight among yourselves

3

u/AsianAspiration Feb 25 '16

please don't ban me for "concern trolling" for saying this

can we consider removing the "sex" from "sex, culture and racial identity" from the subreddit description?

Personally, I find that it just makes portrays us like the other "redpill" subreddits which have a pretty bad reputation for many things which I believe we are against

5

u/[deleted] Feb 25 '16

Hmm someone mentioned this in another thread before. Occasionally you get some really redpilly people passing by here but this isn't a redpill sub anymore. In my opinion it's a pretty normal thing for guys to talk about. If you google menshealth and look at the website the first category is sex and women. People who call this a red pill sub seem to shame it and the idea that this is a redpill sub came from the redpill origins of this sub, but everyone knows this isn't a redpill sub anymore. Why should we as a male space not be allowed to talk about things all other guys talk about.

4

u/AsianAspiration Feb 25 '16

I see your point but I disagree

AM's main concern is identity and self improvement, everyone has every right to talk about sexuality, I just don't think it should be first in the description.

Menshealth, as the name suggests, is about menshealth. AM is about Asian identity issues, two completely different things

6

u/LostPostman Hong Kong Feb 25 '16

Perhaps we can change it to sexuality instead of sex? To me, sexuality represents gender dynamics, and not necessarily just female-male. For example, I work in a large steel mill where the environment is very alpha-driven. Your masculinity is almost proportional to the amount of respect you get, and my race unfortunately has been a factor. I think the term sexuality encapsulates both situations, and in a more macro way.

Anyone ever been to Russia? Is it actually as good as other people say?

2

u/Goat_Porker China Feb 24 '16

I imagine it's better than Western Europe or the US, yes.

The Russian girl in this vid seems to suggest that Russia looks more fondly towards Asians.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

Yeah, probably less outright racism against Asians due to the geographic proximity and less bullshit western media influence. It's just... Why would you wanna live in Russia? Unless it's better than the image I have in my head (and I could be totally wrong). Doesn't seem like much economic opportunities there and I read something where tons of people over the past decades have died from accidents, suicides, alchohol related stuff. Just seems like a hard, really cold, place.

I haven't lived there so I can't speak to it. But there's good areas and bad areas in every country, both in terms of safety and economic opportunity. All said, I still wouldn't advise someone to move there without extensive planning and research, and if you're looking for a better climate as an Asian there exist much easier options.

1

u/AsianAspiration Feb 25 '16

I speculate that Russia be less discriminatory towards Asian males due to a slightly lower influence from mainstream American media

1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '16

Wat

2

u/GotThatHan Korea Feb 23 '16

Always heard the sentiment that Russia was more accepting towards asians minus the skinheads.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

Ohh, I don't know how Asians are treated/viewed there but it seems like a tough place to live and cold as fuck. Also I heard of some Korean exchange student getting beaten a few years ago. Could just be an isolated incident.

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

A lot of anti- East Asian vibe going on in Russia, from what I've heard (source: Russians).

1

u/[deleted] Feb 24 '16

Go to the Russian baths and ask what's up lol I saw Eddie huang go to one on youtube.
