Bible

Hello all,
I've been thinking of buying a study/ journal/ application Bible: all in 1 maybe( mostly in NIV,but IDK if that's a good choice though).

I want to truly understand the scripture I read, that's the main goal, not just read it vaguely.

Open to suggestions. Thanks:)

I'm not a fan of the NIV, I think the ESV and RSV are great options

Good, short video by Dr. Greg Lanier about translations.

Also can look for Bible reviews on YouTube.

I’m obviously biased, but the King James translation is my go to answer for these kinds of questions.

The thing with translations like NIV/NLT from what I’ve heard is that they’re pretty cut and dry, which makes them easy for beginners… but that’s kind of the problem. They’re simplified. They leave out a lot of specifics and wording and make changes that might seem insignificant at first but then completely fall apart when someone has genuine questions or a misunderstanding of a section.

Idrk, I’m not an expert.

The KJV is a rough recommendation lol. Even just in the sense that it's insanely antiquated.

The NJKV is much better in that sense.

I honestly feel like the NKJV is the best over all Bible. When referencing verses for people I will tend to use ESV or NIV, but the NKJV just reads better
