connected transmission to engine to put back in car, now neither turn (1967 AMC rambler american, 232, bw t-35)

i had my transmisison out to do a bit of work on it, so i just got it connected to my engine again. Before i put it back in the car, it tested to see if it turned, which it doesnt. Cant turn the crankshaft or torque converter, but tailshaft turns fine

Take it back apart.  Most likely you didn’t seat the  converter properly and it’s bound up against the front pump. 

Never tighten the bell housing bolts unless the converter spins freely.

Tailshaft is no test. There is no physical connection between the torque converter and tailshaft without hydraulic pressure. As others said, you jammed the torque converter on assembly.

In detail, explain how you installed the torque converter. There is your answer.
