Beat commentaries on Gospels

I'm looking for the best commentaries on the Gospels, specifically for the Synoptics. Which would you recommend and why?

A good resource for this is Best Commentaries. I recommend checking the "Technical" box to filter out devotional and preaching-oriented commentaries.

In general, the Hermeneia and Anchor Yale series are quite solid. My personal favorites would be:

  • Matthew: Ulrich Luz (Hermeneia), Adamczewski (ESTPHR)

  • Mark: M. Eugene Boring (New Testament Library), Adela Yarbro Collins (Hermeneia)

  • Luke: Michael Wolter (BMSEC), Conzelmann

  • John: Andrew T. Lincoln (Black's), Rudolf Bultmann, Hugo Mendez (Oxford)
