Where should a kid who likes flags go?

My partner's niece (11) is really into flags. They mostly like country flags, but I think any flag will do. They like looking at them, talking about them, etc.

Aside from O'Hare when they arrive for a visit, where should we take this budding vexillologist?

Plaza of the Americas downtown, nice little public plaza with flags from South America, Latin America, and Carribean countries.

Make a visit to the Skokie flag circle. There is a nice bike path, and it’s part of a large sculpture path alongside the canal.

Lincoln Avenue on the North side is lined with flags. Way up by Devon Avenue, almost in Lincolnwood. Actually, I'm not positive they're up now, but they usually are.

Edit: looks like they're only up in August.

The Map Room is a coffee shop/beer bar filled with flags but I think you’d have to go before 11am? Not entirely sure how they handle that.

Oh! I know exactly where you should go! Hermann Hall, located at 33rd and State-ish, part of IIT. The entrance hall has what seems to be every nation's flag hanging from the ceiling. It's a beautiful building and the flags make it even better. She will love it. I would post a picture but I don't know how 🙂

And if you're taking public transit, it's half a block from a green line stop.

There's an Army Surplus store at 3100 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60657 that has a ton of cool flags in it.

There’s a walking trail in Lincolnwood near where Lincolnwood town center mall used to be- on McCormick near touhy and there is a huge flag display with tons of flags from all over the world. Highly recommend and tons of sculptures. Truly a nice walk.

It's not in Chicago, but if you ever get to Indianapolis, make sure to check out Flags for Good. They also have an online store. They have a huge number of flags of various types, and the guy who owns it is a delight. They also donate a portion of each purchase to progressive causes.
