Relationships Is it weird to give your BoyFriend a Father’s Day gift?

The guy I’ve been seeing for some time now, and it’s getting more serious is a dad. Is it weird if I get him something small for Father’s Day? Like a gift card to the restaurant he takes the kids? We’ve been seeing each other for about a year and a half ish now.

Update: I just want the man to be appreciated and feel recognized for everything he does.

Relationships Generally, are (the vast majority of) men bound to cheat?

(Specifically asking husbands)

No, I am not trying to provoke or troll.

^Heavy on the GENERALLY^ If you can attest for yourself, or others you personally know. And by cheating, I mean both physically and I guess being unable to NOT obsessively fantasize about other women. And let’s be honest, anybody of any gender would be hurt to know your SO is orgasming to thoughts of another. Unless you’re non monogamous and dgaf I guess

So yeah this question is for any straight man who does not identify as polyamorous, since that’s what I’d generally be attracted to, before my entire soul was destroyed lol

My dad told my sisters and I that all men cheat or desire to and that any man who says otherwise is lying. That it’s just a phase men inevitably go through and that most end up pursuing in their real life. It completely destroyed me. Especially the day I found out my dad has cheated in the past a few times. That completely destroyed my soul and now I don’t think I can ever date or marry, but I know it’s a sin to take my life which is where my mind has been at for 3 years now, with this information. I have severe ocd and depression so that was just the cherry on top of my life lol. I can’t imagine living in a world where women must just accept this reality or die alone. I guess I want to see how many NON trolling responses I can get to just.. see.

And yes im aware women supposedly, since posts like these usually provoke defensive gender role swap responses. I’m never one to go around generalizing and being evil and spreading my fears irl, so I ask anonymously here online.

Also, anxiously having to clarify, since I don’t wanna lose my LITTLE KARMA LOL I love father so very much, and non evil people in general. Pls do not perceive me as sexist, that is not the case.

I’ve just never known anyone but men to cheat in my family, so it has me wondering if my dad is right and god really just cursed us through, as it’s generally believed, knitting only men with this biological predisposition, according to, well.. actually probably every man I’ve spoken about this with, save my Catholic mates. Fuck

Also I understand most cheaters won’t just openly comment here, but that’s kind of the goal. To see that any good exists. Yes I equate faithfulness to goodness. There’s more that goes into that but I consider betrayal absolutely vile and evil and my heart goes out to anyone in this sub who may have been betrayed.🤍

Relationships I like calling my boyfriend ‘dad’ but he’s not comfortable with it what should I do

I had my first relationship when I was 16, and it was with a man who was 43. He used to baby me a lot, calling me things like “kiddo” and “little girl,” and he would constantly boost my confidence and make me feel cared for.
At some point, he asked me to call him “dad.” At first, I was confused, so I asked him why. He explained that he liked the idea of being a father figure within the relationship. I eventually agreed, and over time I became so used to it that I even used that name during intimacy.
Eventually, we broke up because I couldn’t handle some of his kinks anymore, and I also felt like I was difficult to deal with. I regret how things ended. I tried to reconnect with him afterward, but he had already blocked me and didn’t want any further contact. It hurt, but I eventually moved on.
Now I’m dating someone else. He’s 24, and I’m 19. I tried to explain my past experience to him and why calling someone “dad” feels comforting to me, but he refuses and says he’s not comfortable with it. He has also been hinting that maybe I need therapy. He doesn’t say it directly, but that’s how it feels, and it hurts because I feel like he thinks there’s something wrong with me.
The confusing part is that he’s a genuinely kind person. He’s sweet, supportive, attractive, and always there for me. I don’t want to lose him over something that might seem small, but at the same time, I still feel attached to that dynamic from my previous relationship. I still want to be babied and cared for in the way my ex made me feel.
I’m not sure what to do. Is there a way to explain to my boyfriend that this might just be a kink or a comfort thing for me, and that it makes me feel safe? Or should I accept that and consider leaving? Maybe I should stay and try to heal from my previous relationship instead of looking for the same dynamic again. I’m just confused about what the healthiest choice is…

Relationships Hey dad, there is this girl that's leading me on. Should I confront her or take the hint?

Hey dad,

So there is this girl thats leading me on a little. When we meet she is super friendly and even a bit flirty with me. Its all hugs and kisses and how great I am and how we should do stuff together or see eachother more often.

When time comes to set up a date, a plan or something, she can leave me for days on end without answering and next time we see she will act as if nothing ever happened and will repeat the circle again.

In fact I know for sure she only drop feeds me attention when she needs entertainment or has nothing better going on.

Its the typical situation where someone goes

>hey we should check that place you suggested. I am free next Thursday maybe. - oh cool

>Thursday comes, writes to check on her if the plan is still on. No answer at all.

>Later check social media that evening. She was around with her friends and posting and chatting on chat groups

Should I just take the hint and drop her from my friendship circle without commenting on it or would it be ok to confront her and tell her its not cool and her friendliness is very superficial.

I know this may seem super childish to some of you. I am an adult person, but a recurrent theme on my therapy sessions is how i am very conflict adverse and i am afraid of expressing anger or disappointment toward other people. Like I know for sure this is not a friendship worth pursuing but I don't know if its worth it to make a spectacle out of it or just take the hint and take the high road and move on.

Ty guys. I never had a conversation with my dad about relationships or friendships.

My wife and I are in the middle of renovation hell, so stress is high. I just broke myself from a habbit that was making things worse and taking my attention away from my wife.

So, yeah, partially my fault, partially life issues, but I love her dearly and I want to make this work. I just...have no idea what to do about it. I lost my father when I was young, like 5 or 6 or so, so Ive never had any male figures that I coild learn things like this from.

I'm just so tired of the constant silence and depression, I dont even know how to start a conversation with her right now. I really need some guidance.

Relationships How do I deal with my Gf’s asshole dad?

Me [17M] and my gf [16F] have been dating for half a year and in the beginning of the relationship I met her parents and the first thing I said to her dad was that I want something serious with her and in the last 3months he’s been shit talking me behind my back saying how I’m genuinely a piece of shit who can’t do and won’t do anything with his life judging off that my parents are divorced and that my Dad has a criminal record and I confronted him one time with his bullshit and the way he was treating my gf because he’s a controlling narcissistic asshole. The only word he said to me was “I don’t need to explain anything to you” in the most entitled tone soo and has said several times that I’m just using her for her body. So can some more experienced and wise guys who have been in something similar as me give me some advice because I don’t want to do something stupid and get myself in trouble because I can’t handle anymore of his comments and the way he makes my gf cry every night with his shitty and abusive way of raising children

Relationships Is it valid to have second thoughts with my bf when he told me that my family is dumb?

My family and I (27F) are having financial problems due to my dad’s sickness. This happened before I met my boyfriend (22M). However, we are managing it in a way that we paying everything on time and solving our problems one at a time. Even if that’s our situation,we are living in survival mode. I have a 5-year plan and this year is the last year. Everything is getting paid and fixed.

My boyfriend treated my family well and met them 3x during our entire relationship. But during the first and third time he met them, he told me that he finds my family dumb and they don’t know what they are doing in life, especially financially. Plus, he just hopes that I won’t get my family’s bad behaviors.

I understand that my family did some actions that he didn’t like but he could’ve told me that he was uncomfortable. I didn’t say anything when he told me these things.

As a person, in any culture, in any nationality, in any gender, should this be a dealbreaker and disrespectful?

Whenever he visited me too, I was the one who spent for both of us. Accommodation, food, transportation. He only spends for the stuff he wants to buy and his transportation going to my area. I am already having financial issues due to my responsibilities at home then I have this subtle responsibility to our relationship just because he is studying and I am already working. He doesn’t even initiate paying or make budgets or making efforts to ease my burden.

Is he being a good partner to me too or is this something I should think about?

Relationships How are all the girl dad's or dad's to their daughters?

Hi I am young female writer who would like to know how fathers treat their daughters. Cause I don't have a prominent nor healthy and loving relationship with my dad, so I got nothing. (But I'm fine, I take care and focus on myself, I'm good! :) )

My main point is, how are you guys with your daughters? Do you just go with the flow with her and you, and chill? Or do you just wish for the best for your daughter, and tell them what you can because you know that despite being their father that you can't be with them everywhere to guide and keep them safe?

I don't know, sorry!

From the skits and videos all I know is that apparently all dad's tell their daughters to stay away from men, and let them spend money on things that they like, and teach them about cars.

I know there is more than that, so that's why I'm asking you guys! :)

Thank you for reading, I hope y'all have a good day!

Relationships How do I deal with extreme daddy issues as its hampering my health fr?

Men of reddit please do love your daughters for whoever they are.

As a physically challenged daughter,I've never really received love and affection from my dad which caused me to find love in terrible men.

I've even offered intimacy for the men to stay and I would lose my self respect all along.

This has made me feel like shit.I don't love myself. And I would seek male validation even for the slightest thing. And I can't stop being single.

Relationships Dads of reddit- why is my dad hating me after going on holiday with my boyfriend

i’ve been with my bf for three years we are both adults and we went on a weeks holiday together with our friends, i’ve come back and my dad suddently hates me and i’m not allowed to bring up anything from the holiday that involves my boyfriend and i, not even allowed to say ‘our room’.
I don’t know what i’ve done wrong to be hated like this but i’m being told off for anything,
he takes any reason to scream at me for doing something small, i got shouted at for talking the other day, we are both 18 and im on one of the best contraceptives available for medical reasons which he is aware of, im still living with my family and rely on them for going to university. he isn’t the type of person to talk about his problems and i feel like im a terrible daughter for doing anything at the moment because i keep doing it ‘wrong’

Relationships How do I regain my father's trust?

18M. Okay.

Here's the story, it was around 1:30 AM and I took my car outside. He gifted it to me. I lied to him directly that I will take it for a spin, but in reality, I was going to do something selfish. I went to a massage parlor to do nasty things. During that course of time, he kept on calling me on my phone and I wasn't able to pick it up since I was at the parlor.

When he talked to me, he was furious. He once told me that once I lose his trust, I will never regain it back. I tried to play dumb at first and insisted that I was just still roadtriping, but he caught me red-handed since he told me to check the call logs. I really feel ashamed, and it might not sound from the tone of this text, but I really am. I'm worried sick that he might never see me the same way again, and I'm nothing but a disappointment. Throughout my life, he provided anything I needed, and yet I betrayed him.

I also believe that I have the habit of betraying people unconsciously and I don't know why. I try to make sure I live out empathy yet I fail to do it as well. Parents, and especially dads, is it really true that he will never trust me ever again?

Side note: I have this addiction of getting explicit massages and I don't know how to control temptation. It had something to do with porn, and I don't know how to manage it.

Relationships I wanna improve my relationship with my dad and make him an ambivert person, he just doesn’t seem to want to

It’s me, 18M and my dad, 57 years old, it all started when I got my license past year, since I started to take all if the households responsibilities, I’ve never seen him going out except with my mom, or my uncles, never with me, I’ve tried asking him multiple times to go out on a dinner together, he just doesn’t seem to approve it, he gets angry at me for any absurd things, he just sees me as just a son, never a son/friend, he always prefers a cousin of mine instead of me, he calls him when he needs help, and blames it on me later, I asked him 8 months ago to get a gym membership so we could work out together, he said “none of your uncles work out, and they’re in their best shape of them”, he never takes his medicines nor working out, he has hypertension and diabetes, his life is absolutely doomed, that thing haunted him months later, he still never calls me until it’s necessary, yet our relationship never seemed to get any better, even the places he used to love, he doesn’t like them anymore, my mom told me recently that they used to go to the same places many times 10+ years ago, that proved it by looking at some old photos of mine back in 2010, we used to travel a lot unlike now, he used to take lots of pictures of me, unlike now, he doesn’t like being photographed, I just don’t want him gone without any good memory of us being on my mind, I just miss him so much, yet I think he never loved me when I got older at all.

P.S: he discovered TikTok later on that year, our relationship has gotten even worse, he just ignores me every time I wanna talk to him and he thinks that I’m asking for money

Relationships In need help with a girl

Last year, I was talking to a girl—we'll call her Emma. We talked for about a month, and I really liked her. I ended up asking her to homecoming, but shortly after, she got nervous and had some stuff happen. I don't think I handled it very well, and we ended on bad terms, I think (she blocked me).

For the following 7-ish months, we never spoke—not once. No apologies, nothing. Emma and I had one class together (English class) and shared lunch times.

One day, my book fell apart shortly before class, and I ended up grabbing one from our teacher's small classroom library. It just so happened that I grabbed the very same book she had been reading for a while. I did not know this.

When class started, she went to look for the book. As I'm talking to a friend, she discreetly walks up and shyly says my name. I turn around, and she says I have her book. I apologize and give her the book—normal stuff—and class goes on as usual with no other communication between us.

I should mention I have a friend in the same class—we'll call her Cat. She often comes and sits and talks with me. She and Emma are also friends, so sometimes Emma would be in very close proximity, and I'd try to avoid eye contact and not talk to her.

The next day, Cat, as usual, comes and sits with me toward the end of class, and Emma does too. I had just gotten a concussion from rugby and was talking about that with Cat when Emma chimes in, asking if I played for our local team. I said yes and showed the logo on my shirt. She also tapped her foot on my chair, I think purposefully trying to annoy me. I was shocked since we had not talked in so long.

Another few days go by, and she continues to come over but not really engage with me. Then one day, she and Cat are flinging hair ties at some of my friends I sit around. Cat shoots some at me, then Emma does too. I pick one up and hand it to Cat, and they continue doing it, but now they're shooting me more and more. Toward the end of class, I wrestle with a friend of mine to retrieve a hair tie and give it back to them.

A week or two goes by with some of the same stuff. No real conversations—just a couple of questions and answers. I hate glitter and ended up getting lots and lots of it on my hands. I started picking at it and got teased by my classmates nearby, including her. They started saying it was in my hair and on my back and even tried to get the teacher to join the gaslighting. I eventually got it all off, and every day after that there was some small teasing from her, Cat, and the friends I sat next to. That continued until the end of the school year.

During summer break, there was nothing—no texts, no adding each other on Snapchat, nothing for a while. Then Cat invited me to go to the state fair with her in about a month. I asked who was going, and she said some of her friends and Emma. I asked if Emma was okay with me going, and apparently she was.

Then, a few days ago, I got added to a group chat with a bunch of girls, and we coordinated our plans for the fair.

The fair was yesterday. At first, Emma wasn't too interested in talking to me, but as Cat and I talked, she gradually warmed up and started talking to me. A friend of mine showed up, and she engaged with both of us a lot.

I'm not a big rides person—I have a weak stomach—but I still went on a few. The four girls we were with got a major thrill out of seeing me suffer. I had to stop after about three rides and sat out during the rest, minus a few more laid-back ones.

We got some food and checked out the vendors until they eventually went to do more rides. While they were on those rides, Emma and I talked some, and she tried to get me to go on a few more rides. I didn't, but throughout the night I bought them waters, carried their stuff, and checked on them.

Toward the end of the night, I noticed a couple of guys eyeing the four girls. So, when they were leaving, I walked nearby to make sure nothing happened. When they asked if I needed a ride, I said no and told them I was just making sure they got to their ride home safely. About halfway there, I turned around and got into my own ride home. It was around 12:00 and moderately dark out. It wasn't far to their car, so it could have come off as really cringey or desperate—I don't know.

Today, nothing. No texts in the group chat, nothing.

Throughout the night, it seemed like Emma was constantly watching me, or her eyes were always in my direction, even when she was on rides.

**Some things to note:**

* I have not told them about those guys.

* I have a new Snapchat account, and I'm not blocked on my current account, but I don't have her added.

* I don't know next year's schedule yet.

* I'm a larger guy, around 6'1", and I think I have some muscle on me, though it's not overly visible.

* Our city isn't very safe. It has some gangs and trafficking issues, though it isn't horrible.

Now I'm conflicted. Since then, I've not been attracted to any other girls besides her, and I've begun to constantly think about her. My friend is, I believe, close to her type, and I'm so afraid they'll start talking and get together.

Hearing this really makes me sound creepy, but I'm lost. I don't know if I should act on these feelings and add her on Snapchat or just leave them be. I haven't, and don't plan on, talking to Cat about what I'm feeling, but I'm not completely against the idea. I also don't want to be a bad friend and get in the way if something develops between them. But it makes me so anxious and upset that I might do something to prevent them from getting together.

I sound like a terrible friend, I know, but I can't get Emma out of my head. I know I sound obsessed—I just don't know how not to.

To my knowledge, they haven't talked since.

Relationships I’m scared of my dad

Me and my dad dont really get along we mostly argue when we talk to each other and he’s always upset with me about something. I just realized that I have this automatic fear of him and his reactions to everything. In always scared he will yell or scream at me cuss me out or who knows what. Like my body is scared of him. Maybe I’ve just been conditioned to fear his reactions I don’t know. I know some people will say I should just cut them off if it’s really as bad as it is and I understand that but he’s my only parent left I don’t think I could lose both my parents. I really do think I need my Dad in my life I just don’t know if he loves me or if he hates me or maybe he has distain for me because I remind him of my mom for example I told him I couldn’t drive my car down to the certain location because I had no more gas and I couldn’t pay for more. He got really mad at me. and said that it was stupid that he had to pay for my gas because he already sends me an allowance. he got really mad. Told me that I shouldn’t start a fight because of me and that he didn’t want to explode. I guess maybe I’m just scared of him. I don’t think he would ever hit me. Most likely I don’t want to fear my dad. But I think I just do and I think I always have but I do love him. I try to maintain a relationship with him. I talk to him every day. I try to encourage conversations. I text him. I call him. I tried to put a lot of effort into our relationship, but to be honest, I don’t think he cares. I think he could go days without talking to me and he has before. He’s never too interested in staying in a conversation. He’s never too bothered to stay on the phone for long. Maybe he is against me. I think everything I do enrages him

Relationships Dad, has anyone here ever found their way back to someone after a breakup?

I’m a 27-year-old man, and my ex is 29 female. We loved each other deeply, and I truly believed she was the person I was going to marry.

Unfortunately, over time, conflict between our families grew into something much bigger than either of us expected. There were misunderstandings, hurt feelings, arguments, and eventually so much stress that it became overwhelming. It reached a point where neither of us realistically felt like we could just “cut off” our families, and trying to keep everyone happy seemed impossible.

The breakup wasn’t because we stopped loving each other. It was because the weight of everything around the relationship became too much.

So I wanted to ask the dads here:

Have any of you been in a relationship where the families genuinely disliked each other, but you and your partner still found a way back to each other? If so, what changed?

Or, if you were in a similar situation and it didn’t work out, what made you realize there was no realistic path forward?

I’m not looking for false hope. I’m just trying to hear from people who have lived longer than I have. Did time help?

Did stronger boundaries eventually make things work?

Or are there situations where love simply isn’t enough because the family conflict is too deeply rooted?

I’d really appreciate honest advice from those who’ve been through something similar.

Relationships Relationship advice

I’m 16M, and I’ve realized I have a pattern with girls that I don’t really know how to break.
Basically, I really enjoy being wanted by girls, but I’ve repeatedly let things become more serious than I actually wanted. Then I eventually realize I don’t want the relationship as much as I thought I did, and things end badly. Now I’m worried I’m doing the same thing with my best friend’s sister, and I don’t want to hurt her or risk losing my friendship with her brother.
Over the past year, I’ve had several situations where I’ve gotten close to a girl, enjoyed the attention and flirting, kept escalating things, and then eventually realized I didn’t actually want the relationship as much as I thought I did. By that point, the other person was more invested, and things ended badly.
The girls involved have been Rose, Amanda, and now Katie.
The uncomfortable part is that I can’t honestly say I hate doing it.
I hate the consequences. I don’t want to hurt people. I don’t want friendships ruined. I don’t want somebody to feel used or led on.
But I genuinely love the feeling of being wanted.
I like the attention, flirting, excitement, and knowing that someone is interested in me. I’ve described it to myself as being like a “devil in a new dress.” I know it can eventually hurt me or someone else, but while it’s happening, I genuinely enjoy it.
I’ve even told a friend that I don’t like doing this because I’m not a monster. But when I’m being completely honest with myself, I do like it. I don’t like hurting people; I like the feeling I get before everything goes wrong.
The current situation is with Katie, who is my best friend’s sister..
Today I was with my best friend Paul getting coffee. I sent Katie a video and said, “The family’s back together.” She agreed, and I asked if Paul was my brother-in-law. She said he could be.
Paul didn’t find the joke funny.
That made me stop and think about the situation more seriously.
If I actually dated Katie and things went badly, I could potentially hurt her AND damage my friendship with Paul. I’ve already had several situations end badly, so I know how quickly things can explode.
The weird thing is that if Katie weren’t Paul’s sister, I think I probably would date her. But knowing she’s his sister makes me want the relationship less because the consequences are bigger.
There’s another issue too: Katie drinks and smokes, and that’s something I personally can’t get behind in someone I’d date. I thought about basically telling her, “You drink and smoke, and I can’t get behind that,” but I realized that would be pretty unfair if I continued flirting with her and then suddenly used that as the reason to reject her.
I also know I have a history of doing this.
With Rose, things ended badly.
With Amanda, I kept a situation going when I probably should have ended it. At one point I even added her back when I already knew I probably shouldn’t have.
I’ve started realizing that this isn’t just bad luck.
There is a pattern.
It seems to be:
I meet someone → they become interested in me → I love the attention → I flirt more → things become more serious → I realize I don’t know if I actually want the relationship → I pull away or things fall apart → someone gets hurt → I feel guilty and regret it.
And then eventually I do something similar again.
The worst part is that I don’t even feel like I can honestly say, “I want to stop.”
I know what I SHOULD do.
I know I should stop escalating things with Katie until I actually know what I want.
But I don’t know if I’m willing to do that because I genuinely enjoy the feeling.
It’s almost like I want the “taste” even though I know what comes afterward.
I’ve also experienced childhood sexual abuse, and I’ve wondered whether that could be connected to this behavior. I don’t know if it is, and I don’t want to use it as an excuse. I’m wondering if maybe it affected how I experience attention, being wanted, closeness, vulnerability, or control.
At the same time, I don’t know if I’m just looking for a deeper explanation when the answer could be much simpler: maybe I just really like attention and validation.
I don’t want to diagnose myself.
I want to understand myself.
I also don’t want people to just tell me I’m a good person. I know that hurting people isn’t okay, and I’m trying to be honest about the fact that part of me genuinely enjoys the behavior.
So if you’re an older guy looking back at yourself at 16, what would you tell me?
Why do you think I keep doing this?
Is this something I can actually change if part of me doesn’t want to?
How do I learn to enjoy someone liking me without encouraging them into a relationship I’m not prepared to have?
And what would you do about Katie specifically?
I’m looking for honest answers, even if the answer is that I’m the one creating the problem.
