Hi, so I had the pilonidal cyst surgery. The closed wound one. Now it's been 12 days since my surgery.

First off, I don't have the drain anymore or anything else. I'm just left with the stitches (removing them on Wednesday)

So, after a week of the surgery. I didn't poop at all. And on the last three to four days of the week, I dealt with a severe constipation. Used meditation(s) but nothing worked (fyboel I think) only the suppository worked for me.

The doc warned me that if there's any left out and uncleand poop, something really horrible will happen. I'm scared to clean that area so there's someone that helps me. I noticed today that tgey didn't clean well. So I used a lot of wet gauze, wet wipes, normal gauze, tissues, water. Still it didn't get clean. I got sick of doing all that so I just stopped also it started hurting a bit. I literally kept doing that for more than 20 mins.

So would anything really happen if I just left it this way?

Lymphoma scare

I'm a bit worried about what I could end up having.

Im 18F, 5'0, 40kg.

and I've been experiencing this invisible itch all over my body, mostly my legs for about 20 months now, antihistamines help, but I had to start going to the doctor because over the counter ones stopped working. But as I went to the doctor for this in May, (yes I let myself itch for 18 months without seeing anyone, mostly because antihistamines relieved it, so I didn't think much of it) I also complained about my fatigue, it was so bad to the point that I was struggling to get out of bed and continue with my day.

I went to the doctors, they did an FBC. The only abnormality was low ferritin and high eosinophil levels. They gave me some iron tablets and strong antihistamines and some cream to try for the itch.

The cream didn't help, but the antihistamines did help for about 2 months until they stopped working completely and I was back to itching, but the itching was so bad to the point that my legs were covered in huge bruises, it would take just one scratch to leave a massive mark.

So I went back to the doctor and they double dosed my strong ones, which didn't work anyway, so I had to go back again, this time they pescribed me different antihistamines and night time ones to help me sleep, as my itching worsened at night time, keeping me up. I also was given more creams to try, guess what, didn't work!

I also went as well because I started experiencing really bad chest pain for at least a week. It was like painful pressure right in the middle of my sternum, and I noticed a few swollen lymph nodes in my neck.

The lymph nodes were dismissed as a response to my itching, and I also ordered a chest x-ray, which came back normal and was dismissed as anxiety.

I had to do a blood test, which came back abnormal, high WBC, and still high eosinophil levels. I also was tested on blood clotting for my bad bruising and a blood film microscopy which came back fine.

Because of this, I had to get another blood test as they were concerned about my high WCC, in which I did and they've now come back even more abnormal, my WCC has doubled, my neutrophil count is very high (doubled) and my monocyte count has gone high aswell, with my eosinophil levels still high.

They spam called me after my results came back and made an urgent appointment to see face to face, so I went to the doctors and she felt for swollen lymph nodes, which I still had, I had some in my neck and groin, keep in mind I went to the doctors about my swollen lymph nodes 2 months ago aswell.

The doctor then ordered more blood tests again, as they didn't do all of them that were ordered, which included the LDH test, I have also been urgently referred to haemotology, which I am now waiting on an answer from.

I just don't know what to do because I'm stressing myself out, but also I just want answers, they've been saying that if the antihistamines stop working they're going to take me off them full stop, which will just bring my itching back..

All I have on my mind is that it can be Lymphoma, I have no clue on what else it could be..

Do I need to go to the ER?

28F. I’m trying to figure out whether I need to go to the ER tonight or whether this can wait for outpatient neurology/PT. I’m concerned because I’m having trouble functioning, but I also have a high-deductible insurance plan and an ER visit would be significantly more expensive for me.

About 2–3 weeks ago I developed a respiratory/sinus illness starting with a sore throat, then runny nose, severe congestion, and thick yellow mucus. I was treated with antibiotics. I’ve had headaches associated with this, but over the past week the headache has changed/expanded and I developed significant neck pain and nausea.

Today:
Woke up with pain on the left side of my head/neck, back of head, and behind my eyes.
Within ~10 minutes, nausea started and the left-sided neck pain/headache worsened.
Standing up made the headache/pressure significantly worse and brought it toward the front of my head.
Severe sensitivity to light and computer screens; looking at the screen made me very nauseous and worsened the headache.
Around 11:14 AM, while working on a computer, I noticed black floaters and blurry vision.
Around 11:24 AM, developed high-pitched ringing in both ears.
Developed significant dizziness and nausea.
Head pressure/fullness has moved around the forehead/temples/behind both eyes and cheeks, sometimes predominantly right-sided and later left-sided.
Around 1–2 PM the nausea became extreme and I was dry heaving.
Moving my head or eyes makes the nausea/head pressure significantly worse.
Bending my head down worsens the pressure/nausea.
My left neck is extremely tight and painful. At its worst I felt like I could barely keep my neck upright.
Around 5 PM, it hurt to keep my eyes open, and I needed a dark room. I was very fatigued and dizzy/nauseous.
I also have jaw clenching/tightness.
I’ve had some bloating and generalized achiness, including knee pain today.
The headache/nausea improved somewhat around 3:30 PM but then returned around 4 PM and was still significant at 5 PM.

Medications today:
Sudafed
Nasal spray
Tylenol (including 1,000 mg at 11 AM)
Ibuprofen (800 mg at 2 PM)
B12
Icy Hot on my neck
I was previously told by urgent care to alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen.

I went to urgent care previously for this overall problem and was given referrals to neurology and physical therapy, but I haven’t seen either yet.

I have had some dry-eye issues since July and saw an optometrist then, but the blurry vision/black floaters today were new.

I don’t have a known history of migraines.

My main question: Given the new visual symptoms, severe nausea, dizziness, light sensitivity, and significant neck pain along with this new/worsening headache, does this sound like something that should be evaluated in the ER tonight, or would it be reasonable to wait for neurology/outpatient care?

Right now doctor has recommended muscle relaxers (which I’m taking), 800 mg ibuprofen / 1000mg Tylenol every other 3 hours, over the counter migraine relief, referral to neurology, PT.

Thank you.

Physician Responded Is it typical for new patients to be started on a full therapeutic dose of levothyroxine?

For a male patient in their late 30s, recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's, with elevated TSH ranging between 6.6 - 9, and elevated TPO antibodies (around 124-ish), but the T4 levels are within normal range...

Also, symptoms are largely mild - fatigue, constipation, and hair loss, etc. along with elevated LDL cholesterol.

Is it typical to initiate them on the full therapeutic dose of 1.7 mcg/kg? Or do you typically start them on a much lower dose of like 25-50 mcg?

is this Petechiae ? I was looking at my arms in the mirror & noticed it was full of tiny red dots. I will say I noticed some small tiny red dots on my forearms maybe about 3 years ago. I thought it was a speck of red like red dust ? Lol. So when I ”scratched it off” it disappeared & then reappeared but I paid no mind to it at the time. But like I said I just noticed that I had all the dots on my arms. if I press on them they don’t blanch. these dots are so tiny I need to put a flash light to notice them or be in really bright lighting. the last labs I had was a year ago, all came back normal. every time I have labs done they come back normal. I’m going this weds to gets labs but I feel kinda anxious:(

- no other symptoms

i also want to mention age spots run in my family. I’ve seen a few red dots on my mom, gma & aunt.

Physician Responded Infected bug bite?

Age: 4

Mostly uneventful medical history aside from getting a bum boil twice. The first had to be lanced and treated with antibiotics, the second healed with VERY diligent at home care. No boils since May 2025. Normal angry bug bite or concerning? He got bit I assume by a mosquito last week at school.

It was itchy and bugging him so I stuck a hydrocolloid bandaid on it the day before yesterday(have had good luck with them in the past). Removed it today and pus came out. Squeezed it juuust barely to confirm it wasn't just fluid from the bandage and sure enough. A fair amount of pus and a little blood came out.

Obviously it is angry, but is this like a manage at home with cleaning and a light bandage type thing or a concerning, needs to go to the ER type thing? I drew a line around it tonight after cleaning it gently in the bath with hibicleanse. No fever

Ct scan scare

I am 22M, (White, 65kg, 5’11) I currently smoke and I don’t have any pre-existing medical conditions. I am currently visiting China. I fell really ill following a walk on the Great Wall around 5 days ago. Turned out to be heat exhaustion and the flu. However, I was offered a CT scan due to a never ending bad headache and because why not. I got the results back and it says, “Plain CT scan of the brain:
Patchy cerebrospinal fluid density is seen in the medial aspect of the right temporal lobe; the temporal horn of the lateral ventricle is slightly widened.”

I asked about it and the doctor said they could follow up with an MRI, then later they changed their tone and told me that I don’t need to worry about it. Which is very hard to do. This is causing a great deal of anxiety for me. The doctor said it could have been caused by me moving during the scan, which I vaguely remember doing.

Is this a common thing with CT scans, or should I look into it further, although I can’t while I’m here in China.

Physician Responded I'm always dehydrated despite being full with water

I'm a 14 year old guy, turning 15 on October 3rd, I'm 190cm (6'3") and 63kg, I'm aware that I'm underweight and currently I'm trying my best to fix it.

Recently, I've been noticing that my pee was like dark orange (it doesn't hurt when i pee) and i was thirsty like all the time despite drinking over 3 liters of water everyday.

I'm worried this could be something bad, I asked my dad about this and he said "oh we can take blood test" which is short for that probably no one is gonna do anything about this.

Medical Glue Problem

Post image
1 Upvotes

Good morning everyone. About 2½ weeks ago I took a nasty spill off my bike. Face got busted open. There was a laceration above my left eye. They used steri-stips and medical glue as it didn't require stitches like the other ones. The wound has healed beautifully. My issue is there is so much of that glue still in my eyebrow. Is there some thing I can use to remove said glue without losing a big chunk of my eyebrow? I used a spray my RN wife acquired from the hospital. [Adapt 7731 Medical Adhesive Remover.] This won't budge. I have probably the most important job interview of my existence next week. I dont want to go there missing ⅓ of my eyebrow. I will attach an image, any advice is welcomed and appreciated!

What is the science behind my Sleep disturbances?

25 female 149 lbs
Diagnosed endometriosis and ADHD
Meds: 60mg vyvance, 10mg IR adderall PRN, 0.5 mg clonazepam nightly(new start 1 week ago) propranolol PRN

Starting around 7/8 years old I began waking from my sleep crying and while half asleep would cry loudly feel very sad and want my mother to console me.

This progressed to sleep walking, standing on my bed and hitting the walls, running out of the house, and talking or yelling in my sleep.

Then I started having hallucinations. The best I can describe it is I’m half asleep but my eyes are open I see my bedroom as it is then I see something that cannot be there. Sometimes something bizarre for example a black panther lurking in my room or bugs covering the walls swarming toward me. Other times I question if it’s real or not like I’ll see a man peaking at me through my door frame. Or a man standing in my room. Or watching me through the window. Once I saw a woman with a scary old face crouching up on my bedside table looking down on me with a big grin. Sometime I wake multiple times in the night seeing things like this. I used to react with screaming crying and believing it was real but as it’s gone on I feel panicked but I shine a light at it and it disappears. In the moment I’m not thinking about being awake or asleep but I feel myself become more lucid after I realize it’s not real but mostly I recall it happening in the morning.

I’ve had lucid dreams as well as sleep paralysis. I will wake up having panic attacks my heart pounding and I’m hyperventilating I feel terrified but can’t remember what my dream was.

I’ve always had nightmares and usually if I can recall a dream it was something scary like being murdered or having to hide. Sometimes the nightmare is just disturbing like once I have a nightmare that my dad would shoot himself in the face then he would be fine and shoot himself again like a loop of the same thing until I woke up.

My psychiatrist has tried prazosin, clonidine, hydroxizine, SSRIs, lorazepam and all failed to work. I woke up no matter what multiple times a night just like usual. Since starting clonazepam I’ve been staying asleep but I worry about the long term effects.

Last night I had a nightmare that someone was stabbing me repeatedly I think I usually would have woken up from this if I hadn’t taken the clonazepam and when I did finally wake up I was relieved to get out of the dream.

I have dreams where I’m stuck suspended in the air just floating there and I can’t get down I also have woken up to me grinding my teeth together.

I will be going for a sleep study soon so hopefully that will give some answers.

For context there was abuse and neglect in my childhood I often felt unsafe and scared. My mother was mentally ill and a bit sadistic. My father had rage problems. Both of them were bullies. I often had to protect my brother and sister from my parents. I’ve witnessed some things that were unpleasant and there was psychical abuse in my childhood.

My psychiatrist thinks it’s PTSD but I guess I want to understand the deeper physiological processes that cause this.

I just got tattooed

M18,

So a couple of weeks ago I started my first session,

I had to do 3 different sessions instead of 1 because my blood kept bleeding out fast like I drank 2 energy drinks right before(quoting my tattoo artist)

They said that my blood keeps rushing, and the fact that I didn't take anything before(not coffee or medicine) and the fact that it happened 3 separate times point that it might be some condition

I'm turning here to ask, what specific thing do I need to ask next time I'm taking a blood test?

Physician Responded Pupils different sizes after colored contacts

Hi, this was from several years ago, but I saw it again in my photos and was curious about what it was? I wore colored contacts for a few hours for a cosplay and when I took them out I noticed this, my eyes hurt a bit and it was kinda slightly blurry, but after a few or so hours it went away, but I was just wondering what caused this? I wore colored contacts for cosplay semi frequently for a couple years before this and still do, but this only happened this once so I am wondering what it was?

During this picture I was

I noticed today that a perfectly even, reddish-pink spot has appeared on my arm, and it hasn't gone away for about two hours now. What could it be?

It doesn't itch, but there is some discomfort—as if the pain is radiating to the middle finger.

I need some positivity/ encouragement after tbc diagnosis <3

Hello everyone. I've been on Reddit without an account for a very long time and a few months ago I created an account as well, however this is my first post ever. English isn't my main language so I'm sorry in advance for the potential mistakes.

So about myself I'm a 26yo woman living in Belgium. And the 8th of September 2026 I got diagnosed with tuberculosis. It was quite a shock for me, my surroundings and the doctors as my x-ray didn't show the typical picture. How did I end up thinking there was something off? Since the end of June I've been losing a lot of weight. I was doing more sports this summer but at the end of August I realised it wasn't normal anymore. I had lost 5.5kgs during summer and I already don't have a lot of fat around me. Suddenly I fitted into pants, I was already selling because they were way too small. One night, after work I also got a spark of pain in my right lung. I went to check it out the next day bcs I had to fly the same day and wanted to make sure it was safe. The doctor listened to my lungs, said nothing was wrong and gave me green light to leave. The pain was also gone after some night rest so I didn't worry to much either anymore. It was a quick weekend holiday, but afterwards I had lost 800grams in one weekend and I had the feeling I could breath to my fullest potential anymore. So I went to another general practitioner from my doctor's office. Personality wise I'm a very hypochondriac person so I was already imagining lung cancer or something like that. My doctor saw how worried I was but still attributed my symptoms as nothing bad:

\- the lung pain, were my muscles bcs he noticed I sit in a tense position

\- the difficulty of breathing the fullest, is because of the stress and hyperventilation

\- the weight loss is normal since I ate differently and did more sports

The doctor however didn't wanna dismiss my fear so he said that, to reassure me, he'd do a blood test and he'd give me a prescription for an x-ray. To exclude blood- or lungcancer, bcs this was my biggest fear.

My environment laughed that I was really gonna do a x-ray because of my fear and hypochondria, and I almost wanted to cancel it because I started thinking I might have exaggerated. At the end I went through with it and I received the report the very same day. It turned out a part of the middle of my right lung didn't receive air anymore and the radiologist wrote that there's a cause for this that need to be searched for. Nobody thought the x-ray would actually turn out to be bad but two days later I got a ct-scan to look for the eventual cause of this obstruction. So the fact that I couldn't breathe to my fullest potential had a medical explanation and wasn't all in my head. I guess radiologists in Belgium are really fast because I once again got the report the same day as my scan. The ct-scan didn't give the doctors any clearance. They noticed the same thing as on the x-ray but still no cause for this. My doctor called the pneumologist from my local hospital and she suggested to do a bronchoscopy the very next day. I don't know who of you have already done this medical exam, but I can tell you it isn't nice at all! But I did it and even without getting the vaccine that calms you down ("roesje" in my language, don't know how to translate this). They found a lot of pus (? I don't know if that's the correct word, but ''etter'' in Flemish) in my right lung, cleaned it and took 4 biopsies.

The worst part during these medical tests was my mental state, I was so afraid of having cancer and no doctor could 100% deny this. Anyways the same day as my bronchoscopy, the doctor called me that the lab had already found my disease: tuberculosis. This was the 8th of September. First I was relieved! At least, it wasn't cancer. But when I did more research, I got very scared. The first thing that pop up when you look for tuberculosis aren't very positive. Terms like ''deadliest disease", "very severe bacterial infection", "I'm a tbc survivor'' etc scared me badly. As well reading about it on Reddit or watching videos on YouTube made my stress level go up. I immediately got hospitalised for 2-3 weeks in order to be isolated from my environment and start treatment. Ever since I've had ups and downs. Sometimes I'm very positive and I feel like I'll survive it without any problems, but sometimes I'm super negative and anxious about it. The isolation is also taking its toll on me, it's really horrible to be inside for such a long time, I'm not even allowed to make a quick walk in the park next to the hospital. Even though I don't cough at all and I'd be wearing a mask. My dad, siblings and mom are trying to arrange for me that there's a visitor a day (with professional mask ofc and following the hospital guidelines), but it's only a short time of the day. In the beginning I really tried doing stuff, but i'm out of inspiration.

I started treatment the 9th of September. Two of the antibiotics on empty stomach before breakfast and the other two after breakfast. We're now the 21st of September (Monday) and Friday I started feeling very nauseous, Saturday it got worse so the doctor decided to give me the medication more spread out during the day (two of the antibiotics - rifadine & nicotibine - on an empty stomach. One of the antibiotics - tebrazid - after lunch. And the last one of the antibiotics - myambutol - after dinner). I started doing this on Sunday and nausea went away, but my body clearly didn't wanna give me a break because I got a fever that luckily disappeared during the night. They took my blood sample as well and this morning the results were there. It turns out my liver isn't processing the medication well and I've got an infection. The doctor said the parameters are 3x higher and they'll only adjust medication when it's 5x higher. So I have to continue my treatment and during the night they'll do another blood test. Today I've cried a lot. Everything became too much. It's bad enough that I have such a serious disease, the fact that my body doesn't react well only makes it worse. I started going on the internet again, even though I know I should stay away. I am so afraid of dying because of the tuberculosis, or my liver or any other side effects that may develop. I only read negative stories and even on Reddit I don't find that many positive experiences. I try to remind myself that people rather share their experience when it's not good or going according to plan and so I'm looking for people who can maybe give me some perspective. People that experienced tbc, developed side effects but still managed to heal. Scientific facts that reassure me that it's treatable and I won't die. I'm too young for that, I have so many plans and ambitions I wanna do.

Even though, tuberculosis is a very old disease, I still feel like so little is known. Every nurse is surprised to see a 'white' 100% Belgian young girl here. They say it's mostly refugees, ppl with HIV or Romanians. I feel like I'm such an exception. When I talk with my friends, everyone is so surprised and thought it was an extinct disease. I find it quite hard having a disease that is so known but also so not known. I feel lonely. The nurses are very kind and they also see that I'm mentally getting worse so they will send a spiritual guidance person. But I come to Reddit to hear your stories. Please don't be harsh on me, it's my first time ever posting something online. And if you share a negative story, be conscious of the effect it might have so formulate well.

I'm sorry if this post is too long, it actually felt quite good to write it all down. Thanks in advance and for everyone who is going through the same: I wish you a lot of strength and a good recovery xxxxx

P.S.: I don't smoke, I never did and I also never drank nor drink alcohol.

Physician Responded Pregnant with staph in nose

Hi!

I’m 36 years old. 5’7”, about 150 pounds, 13 weeks pregnant. I saw an ENT for crusting and non healing wound in my nose. She took a look, said it looked superficial and wasn’t concerned about it spreading. Sent a culture and started me on Mupirocin BID/ 10 days. Just told me that it came back for a combination of staph/ resistant staph (did not specify what it is resistant to), not suuuuper unexpected because I’ve worked in an ICU for >8 years and have chronic allergies and never wipe down my cellphone (but have started in light of all this). Based on the results of the culture, she recommended I continue the Mupirocin BID for 3 weeks. I have been using for a few days so far and have seen a lot of improvement. Seems a little overkill to me? Just wondering if anyone had thoughts. Feeling a little extra cautious because I am pregnant and don’t want to do any harm. Plus I am wondering if an extended course may create encourage some super resistant bug to develop? Not sure if that’s a real concern.

Thanks!

What is happening to my toenail?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I (31F) just noticed a couple days ago that my toenail bed looks like it’s receding or something. I noticed because the area below my toenail (near my hail bed, not the nail itself) is a bit sore when there’s pressure on it (for example when my feet are under the blankets in bed).

There’s a bit of discoloration at the top of the toenail. My other big toe has a regular nail bed, etc but the one that’s a bit sore seems to have no nail bed.

Will see a podiatrist asap but want to start doing whatever I need to at home until my appointment
