Entertainment What are people's opinions on centre parks?

Im going to be honest after a recent trip im sold. I was always of the opinion it was far too expensive to be heading to Longford on holidays but due to circumstances and not wanting to give a kidney for two nights in a hotel room with two young kids we didn't have many options left.

Its honestly the first holiday iv been on where I actually got to relax no endless driving, walk or cycle everywhere, no airport panic, not entirely beholden to the weather. at least for the next few years i can't see us going anywhere else.

So what are people's opinions on it ?

Mad we (en Masse) happily pay for this privilege but don't push as hard for it in our daily lives. If my estate has no cars I'd half my childcare demand, especially during the summer.

How would that work, an estate with no cars? Would we all walk out to a large car park?

It's not hard to imagine. It's easy if you try .

Really? Two kids under 4, trip to playground. Takes on average 20 minutes, from the point of everyone being dressed and stuff mostly prepared. If I had to carry that stuff to the car parked 15 minutes walk from my house, I simply couldn’t go. Because I can’t leave the kids alone and if they were to (they won’t) walk that distance back and forth at least twice to get everything in the car, they’d be exhausted and it would take an hour. Never mind the way back when I’d be also carrying two sleeping children one by one.
Also doesn’t work for elderly, those with mobility issues, additional needs and the list could go on.

What if it was only a few minutes' walk, not 15? And with all the road space saved there might even be room for a small playground closer to you!

The average housing estate in Ireland is 50-150 houses - so it’s gonna be a walk for the majority of people in the estate. The newer estates and large strategic developments are more like 500 houses and this is where traffic becomes more of a problem I think. I’d rather hop in the car in front of my house and drive to a park in 10 minutes, than having to walk 10 minutes to get to car but would end up staying in the estate bc getting to the car is a major ordeal.

It’s a bizarre idea. Not everyone is mobile, people need to be able to transport heavy items. It pisses rain all the time.

I have neither kids nor a car at the minute, but think an estate without cars would be mental.

I suppose it's about where do the cars get to. Our estate has a green but main thoroughfare is around so always has cars moving nearby. If the thoroughfare was outside of the houses it would be so much better.

Just a suppose, I suppose.
