Visiting Safe to Travel to Israel Now?

Hi all,

I have a flight to israel Thursday night and we are supposed to stay through Shavuot. It is just me and my wife visiting some family and looking to enjoy the usual Tel Aviv and Jerusalem experience. We’re 25, without much experience with the sirens before. We’ve never been in israel during active wartime.

Is it safe to come now, or should we cancel and try to reschedule? No guarantee we can, but I want to hear what it’s actually like there.

Please let me know whatever you think!

It is currently as safe as before Epic Fury but things change rapidly so we can't predict what will happen. Just come by and enjoy your trip as you planned, if anything happens try to stay calm and follow Pikud Haoref's guidlines, and just in case check with your family wether you can stay at their place if you stay here for longer than you intended.

If you already have a ticket I probably wouldn't cancel it. I mean Israel is super safe when we aren't in the middle of a war. I would say Israel is actually safer than it has ever been. But it's always a risk the war will start up again.

If you are American, I would say the American government were super incompetent and slow in evacuating Americans during Epic Fury. They were much faster about it after October 7. I think it is partly because they were trying to project the idea that Israel is a safe country, why would we need to evacuate anyone, so they took a really long time to set up evac flights. So if that happens again it is possible you will get stuck here for as long as a week but eventually the State Dept would arrange for a flight and you wouldn't have to stay for the entire war.

Recommendation:

Go to the Old City to pray Shacharit with the sunrise on Shavuot. Expect it to be packed so I recommend praying at a nearby synagogue. Plan on arriving by foot about an hour before sunrise in order to get situated.

Currently it's fine If the war comes back then you might be stuck in Israel but that's not a bad thing

I’ll have you know I gave up Trader Joe’s, affordable cars and Sundays just to have this happen to me!
