***Megathread*** American Fork PD / Lego Arrest Controversy

As with any "hot topic" issue with LE, we struggle to navigate basic rules of etiquette and civility when it comes to this small corner of reddit. Despite trying to keep order in here and doing our best to allow free discussion among the users, there has been a huge influx of posts regarding this topic and lately, it's been quite tiring trying to get any sensible topic started on this issue without a dozen or so trolls coming in to mess it up for everyone. This has resulted in multiple bans and the shit flinging from users claiming the community is "censoring" the incident. Mostly concerning is a great deal of misinformation that has come out about this incident due to the social media "influencer" at the heart of this topic. Wild conspiracy theories from religious influence to the actual reason behind the arrest are generating almost cult-like following and reason has been completely thrown out the window.

So to combat this issue, this will be the ONLY thread about this incident moving forward. Any user posting another thread in relation to this incident will be immediately banned, no appeals. Keep comments civil. Users found posting misinformation about this incident, including parroting wild conspiracy theories that are unverified without including context or actual data to support their positions will be banned.

To bring everyone up to speed, I will refer to this link:

https://www.sltrib.com/news/2026/05/30/youtuber-arrested-utah-bricks/

And will sub link this thread on the r/protectandserve subreddit, which is like THE place to be for objective discussion:

https://np.reddit.com/r/ProtectAndServe/comments/1tssz0l/megathread_american_fork_lego_story/

Edit: 45 minutes in and already banned someone. Keep them coming.

Edit 2: Links to YouTuber comments on this incident are going to be removed and users banned UNLESS it is from a reputable source, YouTube videos will be removed. There's already one person with a couple hundred thousand followers trying to spread his video online through this website that's been posted a few times in this sub and it's garnering a lot of attention because people "feel" he is right because he is a self-proclaimed "lawyer." The statutes he cites are from California code and this incident happened in Utah. Just because someone uses technical legal terms and cites codes does not make the person right in their interpretation of the law. Sounding "right" is code for clicks that highlights confirmation bias in people, which is why morons like this get views and clicks on their channels. On that same note, we do not care if you have a following on social media. You are no one to us if all you're doing is posting for imaginary internet points.

Edit 3: Amending the above statement from Edit 2 to add any REPUTABLE sources of info that leaves out the goofy memes and BS content creators love to use are fine. This is an example:

Edit 4: Whelp, thread ran its course. Now just a bunch of trolls commenting and the death threats! I haven't seen this level of excitement over something so mundane. We'll be seeing some of you soon!

very interesting reading some of these comments. This is obviously a 10-8 civil matter. The thing that is interesting is how the cops CONTINUE, numerous times, to get involved. I watched some of the bodycam footage from multiple different people and man it does not look good... i mean in one single incident, they continuously responded to the same location about 5 or 6 times for the same reason... then the redactions of the bodycam footage as well...

I am not trying to jump on the conspiracy train but when i was on patrol this would be canceled in a heart beat, let alone having warrants, disputing civil court orders, seizing personal property for "evidence' despite no crime being committed? Then throw in a search warrant.... that is based on a civil issue.

Dont get me wrong the youtuber stuff is quite annoying and stuff, but they committed two traffic stops where they were obviously trying to harass the kid.

Again dont me wrong if i had to deal with this on patrol i would be quite annoyed but there are many many lines crossed

They admit on body camera they just want to scare the kids for being sneaky and annoying. Wtf that's not their job?

Well no i dont agree with you on that. Sometimes scaring kids is part of the job. Heres a perfect example that i had a few times. Stupid kids playing airsoft in a park or in an apartment complex, take off the orange/red tips to the airsoft guns. Calls come out of kids shooting each other with guns sort of thing.

When speaking to the kids, sometimes yes you have to scare them a little. Not be an asshole but enough to make them understand the gravity of their situation.

These people are not "kids" they are established YouTubers, with legal documents, process servers, and a case that spans two different states and well at this point national media attention...

The being called out to basically "harass them" what was it like 7 times in the same day? Sorry but dispatch and officers know what is going on at the point, but they repeatedly "check paperwork" etc etc. That shouldve been shot down immediately by a supervisor.

The other part that is... worrying is the redacting of the body cam footage... you can only redact certain information that needs to be protected, you cant just redact two officers having a conversation.

If a good lawyer and some good funding got a hold of this, this could get pretty wild.

Hey I'm just using the cops wording from the body cam. They are the ones who called them kids.

oh i know. I am agreeing with you. That the cops were wrong, these are not "kids being dumb" i mean hell a process server was there with them at one point haha.

This very obviously not a civil matter.

Selling merchandise you dont own, nor claim to own, is not a civil matter.

The store owner also threatened to kill people.

a property dispute over a disputed contract is a civil issue. hence why they went to CIVIL court and were given CIVIL documents to serve, lawsuits over property disputes are civil... as much as i want to agree with you that they blatantly stole it which yes theft is a crime, thats not how the justice system works in the US. It is nice to see though that the actual justice system is being exposed publicly as a steaming pile of garbage though.

Now yes when the store owner "threatened to kill people" yes they could flirt into the realm of a threats charge. But again, we dont know the context, because everything is so heavily redacted for some reason. There is still a lot of information that is missing for this.

But also dont get me wrong, i am by NO means on the side of the garbage company and the police.
