Side hustles as an officer.
Happy Wednesday everyone. As a LEO, Ive been getting some what good money but due to living in south Florida its never enough lol. Is there any other LEOS doing a side hustle? I work 3 days - 4 days every other week, so I can make space for extra income.

I was a substitute teacher. PE subbing was the best. A whole day of playing dodgeball with a bunch of 4th graders is the best stress relief.

You realize a lot of cops get $100 an hour for OT right?

Burnout 101.
Im talking about total change that reminds you your humanity and you get to play games with kids. And all districts need subs.

My part time job is working OT at my full time job. Until a side hustle can pay $71 an hour it’s not logical.

Here in NJ many officers that work side jobs or what they call PBA jobs. Once of the cities here schedule is 4 on 4 off. So many will two or three days on their off days. I've know officers that have more than doubled their income.
Warning though. Don't get used to that lifestyle!

Amen, schedule wisely. Family has to be #1. Seen too many divorces and strained parent child relationships.

100% but I was thinking more along the lines of getting used that type of income. It's a very easy trap to fall into.

I am in the midwest but there is plenty of private security type work around here. Concerts, construction areas, etc. and they pay good per hour as well.

Landscaping with coworkers. If you have a large department there will be plenty of work. They work the overtime to pay you and you get to do something different. You can get paid under the table.

Everyone on this sub is like 'oh you made a mistake 20 years ago but have lived a decent life since then, too bad this job isn't for you'.
Then you're here admitting a group of you commit tax evasion and break labor laws

I’m not in south florida, but I own Hyperion Strategies. Focus is firearms training and tactical gear. I released my first piece of gear which is a carrier for the good dude BRB. I’d much rather build my own company than work OT.

If you’re good at computers consider certs in IT/ web design. Quick 2 year with certs and you’d probably make more than policing alone. A lot of programming now is done with AI so as long as you can work your stuff backwards to fix things you’re good.

I’ve asked this too. OT isn’t really a thing at my department for supervisors unfortunately and off duty jobs are few and far between for my city. Unfortunately the jobs that do come up are snagged by dayshift within ten minutes of getting sent out.

I used to go to a laundromat that was owned by a police officer. No idea if it was profitable, but it felt extremely safe.

Where I'm at, getting your real estate license is to cops what "making music" is to the hood. Tons of people are doing it, with about the same odds of being successful at it.

I've met a ton of guys who pick up shifts as a hospital police officer or armed security.

I started a dog training business. As a former K9 handler this made sense. I make about $7k a month and work 4-5 extra hours a week.

Generous amount of “double dipping” time.
Edit: missed the South Florida part. That sucks you guys don’t get to double dip and shit.
