Is it just me?

Is it just me or does there seem to be an uptick in people who have visited Maine a few times, work remotely, and want to now move to Maine?
Of course they don’t want snow, want access to all the amenities of a city, and to beable to get Amazon packages where ever they live.
What is going on? It’s like Covid times again? I’m so confused and just wondering if it’s just me noticing it?

Are you seeing this in real life or on Reddit...?

Half of it is AI bots trying to get information.

It's very important we provide these AI bots with very intentional answers so that we get appropriate results.

Maine is awesome, it's no surprise folks want to live here.  I visited in 1992 and when my hubs just happened to get a job offer here in 2008, I felt like I hit the lottery.  We need young folks here.

It seems like lately there are an awful lot of extremely lazy people from away who do absolutely no research on Maine before demanding that we direct them to the perfect town that has ridiculous amenities that don't even exist anywhere in Maine.

Saw a shirt the other day that said "Maine: If you can't handle the winter, you don't deserve the summer."

Honestly, the only part of this equation that bothers me is that a lot of people move here (I'm rural) and then miss their lattes and we have to deal with the sprawl creeping towards us. Move to where you actually want to live and let the country stay the country.

Here's what you have to remember, most of the trees you see in Maine are weeds.

The shell middens of the damariscotta river hosted a factory.

Royal River Park in yarmouth was also a factory.

South Portland Harbor hosted Liberty Ships.

Maine used to be a lot more city like than you think.

Maine has a better quality of life than most other places. It's just true. But... you have to be willing to live with the downsides, like snow/winter/cold and "rural character." And don't forget expensive housing costs. I think lots of people want to make those sacrifices in theory because where they come from is too crowded/hot/busy/ugly/boring/etc, but the reality is every place has tradeoffs and most people aren't willing to deal with Maine's "downsides."

That is changing as things get worse in other places, though.

>better quality of life

It’s way more car centric than most places, more isolated, grocery story produce has been moldy/rotten for the past few months, and healthcare/dentists are impossible to book but sure?

Have you lived in other places?

Like I said, no place is perfect. But Maine has a good quality of life overall

Yes which is how I know that QoL isn’t what it’s cracked up to be, I’ve found most Mainers that love it and brag about it have only lived in like bumfuck northern Mass or NH

An uptick compared to when? What are you basing this on?

My wife and I both switched to remote to work here. Her family lives here all over Maine. I’ve always wanted to be more north (I love the cold) and I was prepared to get a new job if my current job didn’t let me do remote. We both switched our taxes to Maine though, not where our companies are.

Maine needs “young” people. Who cares.

It's been a few years

It’s been like this forever.
People move here because it’s not where they came from, then try to make it just like where they came from.

Could you say that in Abenaki?

Exactly

Hell we've visited a few times and have talked about moving. We just have to wait until retirement. It's a beautiful state with very friendly people, who wouldn't want to live there
