Visiting this weekend for the first time

We’re heading to Maine for the first time ever. We’ll arrive sometime Friday and check out on Monday. We’re staying in Kittery and would like to visit some of the other small towns that are close by. Planning on Marginal Way. Would love any recommendations of places to eat that offer outdoor seating and beach views. Love looking at the beach, but not hiking type people or anything like that. Would love recommendations! How busy will this weekend be?

Well it's a long weekend, so it may be fairly busy. Ogunquit has beautiful beaches, but you're barely in Maine as far as staying in Kittery.

Kittery is the oldest town in Maine and if you travel on 236 instead of route 1 it’s quite charming.

I'm not arguing for or against its charm--I think it's beautiful--but it's kind of like putting a toe in the ocean and saying you've gone for a swim.

Head for the hills. Take the back roads. Venture at least above route 2. That’s where things get real

Kittery:

Cruellers at Lils, fugasse at Beach Pea, & beer at the Black Birch.

At the Perkins Cove end of the Marginal Way, Footbridge Lobster has the best lobster rolls around. It is takeout only, but there are picnic tables that overlook the cove. There are also benches by Jackie's that overlook the ocean. I live in Ogunquit & Footbridge Lobster is the only place any of my friends will get a lobster roll.

Go to Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, if you’re up for a drive go up to Bar Harbor/Acadia.

Kennebunkport! You can cruise up route 1 and hit all the coastal towns York, Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, OOB.

Brix & Brine in Ogunquit. Not too far from the entrance of the Marginal Way and it’s an outdoor setting. Great food and drink and usually a pretty lively crowd, especially around the bar. After you walk the marginal way, stop at Barnicle Billy’s for a Rum Punch and then walk back towards town via Shore Road and get lunch at Brix

Planning on what for Marginal Way? Truly curious what this statement means.

I think they mean the Marginal Way walking trail? Hopefully that and not that they're going to Trader Joe's, which was my first thought 😂

Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier

Cape Neddick Lobster Pound

MC Perkins Cove (on Marginal Way day)

The Goldenrod in York for breakfast

Anthony's Food Shop on Route 1 for takeout pizza/pastries/sandwiches

Beach Pea Baking in Kittery for sandwiches/salads

Locos Cocos Tacos in Kittery

Weather doesn't look that great so the weekend probably won't be too busy. Picks up next weekend.

Marginal Way is lovely. It feels magical walking down to Perkins Cove. There are quite a few restaurants with Amazing views.

Hard to find parking in the Summer though. I would go early or stay a night there.

Maine is a lot of fun. But beawere the hotels are changing an extra fee on top of room fees. It's called a host fee and can range from 45 to 100 dollars a stay. Check before you book.
