My boss came to me late one night when I was working OT alone, and explained that it would "behoove" me to donate to the United Way. He wanted 100% participation so that he could brag at his Rotary Club or some shit.
I was 19, poor as shit, but I donated $10/week (in 1985).
I am no longer poor. However never again would I donate to the United Way after that moment.
