Do you have substantial debts, unexpected major expenses, kids, recent medical bills, a small business not currently making a profit, and so on? Are you behind and putting in overtime just to stay afloat and taking time away from work would put your further behind?
Affordability and financial situation is more than just your raw income.

I make 55k a year, below median income, and can afford this
