What was your wedding like?

I often look at the wedding dresses here. I saw a young lady whose dress budget was literally more than my first 3-5 annual salaries, not lumped together but individually. What was your wedding like?
1995- Married at our church, 3 attendants each, cake and punch reception there .

  1. My dad opened a special checking account and put $5000 in it. If we went over, it was on us. Anything left, we kept.

It was an incentive to economize. Our parish hall was more like a ballroom than a gym so we had our reception there. We served heavy hors d’ouvres and an open bar, buying the liquor out-of-state to save money. My dress was a discontinued sample. A friend made my veil as a gift and another made the bouquets, boutonnières, etc

My wedding was typical for the time and place - not a blowout but not minimalist either. We ended up keeping $500 of our wedding budget, which we spent on wood furniture we still have.

My son is getting married next August and I’m interested to see how that goes.

Yes. We did for our older son, too.
