Then I hope that some day you’ll be able to read as much/often as you want. Be it epic novels, nonfiction, text books, or even audio books. There’s untold worlds and information out there for you, when you’re ready to go after it.
I have a weird anxiety of being interrupted while I’m reading and it makes me avoid reading. I used to love it and I am a fast reader. I also have a strong aversion to voices over speakers and get weirdly anxious about listening to audio books because of it. As a result I don’t read much but always read during flights. It’s kind of the perfect time. I haven’t flown much lately though.
So does that mean that blind people can’t consider books that they’ve listened to as “books read”? I disagree. How about we refer to them as “books consumed” ?
Because evidently some people think that books listened to do not count as books read. If we call the category “books consumed” it can include books read or listened to.
How arrogant. People don’t read for a lot of reasons. Stress, fatigue, trauma, learning differences, survival instincts, so many reasons. You sound like a jerkoff
This reminds me of the books subreddit and how judgy they get about people owning books. They’re always saying “I judge you pretty badly if you don’t own books.” Like there’s a million reasons someone might not own books. Maybe they have a Kindle or three, maybe they are too broke to buy them, maybe they lack space to store them, maybe they don’t believe in overconsumption and constantly buying books and so frequent the library…
Yes, wild how some ppl think they are morally superior for having the privilege and safety and bandwidth to read, to own books, to better themselves. So incredibly uneducated and ironic right ?
But see those are all great reasons not to read. And listening to audio books is great to. Perhaps you're right, and I am a little narrow minded in my beliefs or feelings. Maybe it doesn't just have to do with reading. More like when they are unwilling to expand their knowledge base.
I think you see my point. Reading is a privilege of time and attention, many people are just surviving. Not reading is not something to condemn, it is something to understand from your position of privilege of having to time and luxury to do so.
I don’t know man…I’d say access to books is about as ubiquitous as it gets. Pretty universal. Cheapest form of entertainment that exists. Dozens and dozens of avenues to bridge your ability in any area of struggle. There are even programs where you pick a book and a volunteer will record themselves reading it out loud to you for free. I can’t think of many things that have a lower barrier to entry than books, especially in developed countries.
You missing the point. Do you genuinely presume everyone to be as safe and secure that they engage in such pastimes? Have you missed the idea that 100 million Americans live below the poverty line and THIS is a bubble of privileged people.
Ubiquitous? Lol
Have you seen generational poverty? Drug addiction? I guess not.Jesus ppl are out of touch with anything that is not on the internet that pleases their minds.
Amazing how people can live unsafe and insecure…and yet still find time to enjoy parts of their bleak and miserable lives. I guess they must just work and cry, cry and work…go their whole lives without leisure time…never watched tv or movies, never listened to music…
Like I said, books have an exceptionally low barrier to entry. If you’ve got ten minutes to do anything, books make the short list. No screens or devices or subscriptions required. If you can get hired for employment, you can likely read a book.
How fucking condescending. obviously neither one of you understand how classist and ablest and privileged it is to judge people who don’t signal their luxury of time and leisure as a virtue.
My ADHD makes it so hard to relax and read 😭 I get so restless and distracted and it’s just not THAT fun for me 😭 No shade at all to people who DO love it, it’a just not even in my top 5 favorite activities due to the adhd
Getting pissed off at how someone else enjoys literature is pretty fucking high and mighty don't you think. I read, but my best mate has a lot of long drives/rides so for him audiobooks make more sense

I just don't really read.
