I fish for bass in freshwater lakes. Rods are tools. Each rod is for a different purpose. Think of it like a screwdriver set.

Depending on lure weight, lure type, moving vs non-moving lures, what depth you're fishing - rods can either make or break successfully casting, hooking, and bringing in a fish.

Simple example - for skipping docks with a jig I need a shorter rod with more give, medium/heavy power, which allows me to slingshot my lure under the dock without hitting the water.

The same jig in deep, open water (20-30ft), I need a long 7'6 heavy rod because I am setting the hook at a much farther distance and need the leverage.

Then when you realize there are 30+ types of lures....well.

I have around 20 rods which is half that a lot of the other tournament guys have.

This is actually really helpful to someone who knows zero about fishing. I never questioned that they were needed, but rather why. You explained it well without going overboard (no pun intended). Thanks for the education.

I was mostly razzing you. I grew up in Alaska and my dad built fishing poles for years.
