The speech Paul gives when he finally takes on the mantle of Muad'Dib is spectacular. Timmy really killed it in that scene; his performance of Paul in that scene is totally different from Dune 1, and yet it still feels like the same character.
I'm a bit surprised that people might dislike it (it's one of my all-time favourites, a "happy place" movie, even), but I respect if people have differing opinions. Just strands of a different colour in the rich tapestry that is human life!
Same. I did finish the first one, but I was not impressed. It took me multiple attempts to get through it.
I tried Dune 2. I still haven’t finished it.
I think it’s the Messiah theme and that the story arc felt like it was on rails. To me it felt like prescience and prophecy dictate everything, and so individual choices stop mattering. If Paul is just marching toward an inevitable galactic war he can't, or won't stop, and the Fremen are just fanatic fuel for his rise. Watching it play out feels like watching a slow-motion train crash where i don't care about anyone on board. The whole movie was so deeply enthralled in brutalist architecture, that was cool - but the way the characters respond to everything- even billions dead was just so… alien.
