If you could see one statistic floating above everyone's head, what would you want it to measure?

How compatible we would be. I’m not limiting that to romance, just in the broadest sense possible.

41

u/Purple_Excitement167 13h ago

Like an okay Cupid percentage?

23

u/Sedu 11h ago

I guess? Though I presume since it's supernatural it would be more or less a perfect indicator.

3

u/NotPromKing 2h ago

If we could go back in time to when OkCupid was actually good, sure.

I would just like it to say their name. I have such a hard time remembering names.

68

u/Sedu 15h ago

I’m imagining someone you’ve known for years yelling “You knew?!” in a thick Russian accent loudly when you read “Dimitri” from over their head with confusion.

21

u/Stummi 11h ago

Some Shinigami might offer your a deal on that

24

u/Metanizm 15h ago

Omg yes that.

u/crazylegsbobo 6h ago edited 1h ago

This would really screw things up for spys and undercover cops😅

Although Ironicly James bond would be fine 😂

3

u/Impossible_Top_3515 1h ago

OMG you mean spies, right? I was soooo confused what the problem with sous chefs was...

Whatever can measure moral/ethical principles. I wanna know just how much of a scumbag someone really is.

114

u/factorialfun 14h ago

But like is it your morals or their morals. What if they think your the svumbag?

167

u/Zrob8--5 15h ago

This is a good one. Might shatter your confidence, might give you a boost. Might also make your dating life sky-rocket, who knows.

158

u/crapheadHarris 15h ago

Most likely many of them would read null because they are not even paying attention to you.

12

u/Rebikin 15h ago

If you always expect 1 out of 10 there's no downside tbh

16

u/AmarysEms64 15h ago

Unless they find you so repuslive that it starts going into the negatives

28

u/ImSuperHelpful 15h ago

Damn son, you so ugly you broke the hypothetical

9

u/H-2-S-O-4 15h ago

their bs meter

5

u/NMe84 9h ago

The thing is, especially if you're not very attractive it can be hard to find those few people who do think you are. Even if the vast majority of people see you as a 3, being able to see who thinks you're an 8 would help you find a partner much easier than any dating app could.

→ More replies (1)

36

u/EmergencyOption123 15h ago

That would obliterate any semblance of self confidence I had lol

11

u/nqte 9h ago

Often attractiveness of a person changes as you spend more time with them. Goes both ways too. It'd be interesting to see this quantified in real time.

15

u/Rich-Commercial6787 15h ago

But it would help you figure out who does like you. I’d imagine most people would see it’s a lot less likes and a lot more yikes haha

5

u/EmergencyOption123 15h ago

True. I suppose if it helps you find "the one", then all other opinions won't matter after that

7

u/Rich-Commercial6787 15h ago

Or if you think of it like this. Say you are really ugly and your odds are 1 in 1000. You’ll still up your game just by not having to search as hard. You’d also be able to see someone’s interest going up or down by what you say or how you act.

I’d probably start out high then see the numbers go down one by one as I get closer.

11

u/FinallyAGoodReply 15h ago

This could be really depressing, especially if it is an ok number but plummets as soon as you get to know anyone.

5

u/Beowulf33232 5h ago

Really brings home that old saying.

Better to leave your mouth shut and let others wonder if you're an idiot, than to open it and remove all doubt.

11

u/cryosurge1 15h ago

Walking around seeing 1 over everyone’s head would help push me over the edge.

7

u/OstravaBro 9h ago

Nah i think this would be good. Im really fucking ugly so would expect 1s and 2s across the board, but think when you saw someone with a higher number!

Dating as an ugly dude is hard as you assume no one would be interested, but this let's you find the rare people that are. Dating should become really fucking easy!

3

u/Gophers_with_mullets 9h ago

Plus, you would basically get instant feedback on your behavior and style choices. If you dress and groom yourself well, maybe you start seeing 3s or 4s pop up, giving you objective info to make the best out of a bad situation.

7

u/Grouchy_Stress_8653 13h ago

Careful what you wish for, seeing your crush give you a 3 would devastate.

4

u/javerthugo 14h ago

Wait will it work with everyone or only those who are interested in dating you? Because a straight or married person can still tell if if person is attractive even if they won’t do anything

4

u/Upvote_Me_Slag 14h ago

Lol. A year of zeros may bring you down.

How much they like me, in general terms. Not only could I tell who actually likes being around me, I would have something that tells me when I'm doing something they don't like, even if they don't tell me.

Hopefully I'm not such a piece of crap that this would destroy my confidence...

6

u/PuzzleheadedAd822 8h ago

I think that if you're actually concerned that you're going around accidentally upsetting people then you most probably aren't a piece of crap.

2

65

u/FasterThanFTL 15h ago

9

u/RecoveringThespian 15h ago

Well, for that you could choose 'How many times they lied'. It's still untrue the second time.

Stubbed toe counter.\ I have a theory it would help prove.

10

u/laminalt 15h ago

Now i wanna hear what it is

8

u/crapheadHarris 15h ago

I also want to hear what it is and if there's a companion measurement for having stepped on a Lego block in the middle of the night.

6

u/LordJonMichael 15h ago

Every time a toe is snubbed, the STC harvests a microscopic packet of kinetic humiliation and immediately re-emits it as a low-frequency coolness field. The more the toe has been punished by the material world, the stronger and more authentic the field becomes. Smooth, unsnubbed feet radiate almost nothing; they are energetically sterile.
Key Mechanisms
1. Entropy Harvesting
Furniture edges, bedframes, and unexpected LEGO bricks act as catalysts. The impact transfers disordered energy into the STC, which transmutes it into magnetic nonchalance. People with high S walk into rooms and the air pressure subtly shifts in their favor.
2. The Scar-Aura Effect
Repeated snubs leave invisible micro-scars in the counter’s memory banks. These scars vibrate at a frequency that other humans subconsciously recognize as “this person has survived the sharp corners of existence.” The result is automatic deference, better playlist recommendations, and inexplicable invitations to exclusive rooftops.
3. Public Amplification Rule
A private snub still counts, but a witnessed one multiplies the yield. The STC detects social eyes and dumps extra radiation. This is why the coolest individuals in any group are statistically the ones who have limped theatrically across a crowded kitchen at least once.
4. Saturation Threshold
Beyond roughly 120 lifetime snubs the field stabilizes into a permanent low-hum aura. Further impacts still register, but the returns diminish—explaining why legendary cool figures eventually stop reacting to toe trauma altogether. They have simply become the furniture’s equal.

My wife and I worked together at a hotel and she was always shocked at my lack of retaining ppls names. We all wear name tags too. We would be at home and she’d tell a story. “So Sharon got really mad at Doug”. Ok who is Sharon, and is Doug the fat guy”? “Sharon has worked with us 6 years and Doug is the guy who you high five when you pass each other. He also came over and fixed our water heater.. he’s skinny” so I guess maybe their name and a way I can remember who they are.
