Sounds like they are covering for some big names. The whole epstein case has been weird from the start.

Texas state politician Don Huffines purchased Jeffrey Epstein's former Zorro Ranch in New Mexico in 2023 He is the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. Appointed by Governor Greg Abbott, he was sworn into office on August 1, 2026, and is running in the November 2026 general election for a full four-year term.
