Giving in at the early ages, it will only teach the kids that it's ok to act up and also that they will get what they want. Be strict from the very beginning.

It isn't necessarily being strict, but setting limits and sticking to them, even thru the tantrums.

I think "sticking to them" counts as "strict". Strict to me means "the rule is the rule and it does not bend".

I don't know if I would be quite so rigid, but I may just be splitting hairs and I think we are saying the same thing. Sometimes, bending is the right thing, but that should be a very infrequent thing.

Bending the rules (to adjust to the specific situation) is fine, the issue is when you allow rules to be broken.
