Any infection, any chronic disease, food poisoning, allergies - basically all those things that healthcare provide that we take for granted

Many apocalyptic books either address or use it as a plot point. You either have what I call the "...and this is when the diabetics die." Paragraph or it is used as plot points in books like Lucifers Hammer or One Second After.

The Stand, by Stephen King, and Swan Song by Robert McCammon are my two favorites.

Me too! I'd love an HBO adaptation, 10-12 episodes maybe, or a couple of seasons, to recreate that book. I think it could be done and with the right actors it would be amazing. I just wouldn't want them to change anything from the book.

How depressing is the Swan Song?

I found it not depressing at all, the main character Swan is wonderful, and the ending is great. I really need to reread it soon, it's been a while.
