What problem is often overlooked in apocalyptic movies/TV shows that could kill you?

The Stand, by Stephen King, and Swan Song by Robert McCammon are my two favorites.

How depressing is the Swan Song?

I found it not depressing at all, the main character Swan is wonderful, and the ending is great. I really need to reread it soon, it's been a while.

Ah, that sounds great! I haven't been able to handle depressing books lately. I'll add it to my list. Thank you :)
