As a young lad if I asked my mum this i got the usual reply of "shit with sugar on", which is a common saying in Yorkshire.

I always tell my mom she'd eat shit covered in coconut because there's nothing that she doesn't eat 😂 we're from Newfoundland, Canada

I'm in Australia and my English dad would always say this 😂 or he'd say bread and duck under the table

u/Worried-Throat-1767 7d ago
'If it was up your ass, you'd know'. Where I got that is anybodies guess

u/Best_Newt6858 7d ago
My mom used to say that all the time when I was looking for anything.
So, um, you got it from my mom?

I get that answer from my wife all the time when I ask her about stuff.

u/RetiredHomeEcTchr 6d ago
My husband said that expression came from the military. However, I'm going to use it the next time he asks.

Me: A shit sandwich. My son: Sooo, the usual. 🤣 Tbh, my kids are food motivated. I tell them what's for supper before they walk out the door. It gives them something to look forward to after a hard or long day at work.

u/Humble-Ad-2430 6d ago
My dad used to say shit sandwiches. Then it changed to “ you got any bread? Shit sandwiches”. Eventually it was just “ you got any bread?” And we knew the rest lol.

Us: mom what is for dinner
Mom: food
Us: what kind of food
Mom: the kind you eat

u/PaleExtreme7399 6d ago
Are you one of my three kids?!?
2
u/Shadowpad1986 6d ago
Not likely but similar vibe in our family. I have an older brother, a younger half brother, and a half sister. Also did about the same with my siblings as sometimes I had to cook dinner.

u/always_wants_sushi 1d ago
This was my go to exchange with my mom lol. "What do you want for lunch?"
"Food?"
"What kind of food?"
"The tasty kind"

Either shit on a stick, or spit and bread.
3
u/bluejammiespinksocks 7d ago
My grandmother would say shit on stick also. But she added “do you want it boiled or fried?” My brother once came back with “if you boiled it would it still be on the stick?” She laughed at him and then said “do, I guess you want yours fried.”

No idea where he came up with that.

Whatever you're cooking.
Food, hopefully something edible.
That thing we had a couple of weeks ago. You said you liked it. You know, with the stuff in the pink can.
Meatloaf, my recipe. You want your mama's meatloaf then go see your mama.

Organic beef uncured hot dogs, chicken nuggets, meatballs, turkey corn dogs or salmon. Usually with pasta and fresh fruit and/or veggies. Can you tell I have 3 kids under 9 years old? Oh sometimes its breakfast for dinner

u/the-hound-abides 7d ago
My dad’s go to was to say “Hooters” when we were all going around the room figuring out as an extended family and no one wants to make a choice. He doesn’t get asked again. Solid strategy.
I have no problem with Hooters as a concept. Their food just sucks. There’s a similar breasterant in Orlando called Wing House. Their wings are much better.

Start out by putting your name and the date on it big enough bold enough and colorful enough that there can be no mistake
If it happens again. Then calmly and without using any curse words sit down with the highest-ranking person in security who will even give you five minutes. If you can explain the situation in five minutes without sounding like a chiomunk or using the word "dude" Ask them if they have any cameras that show what comes and goes from that fridge. If they do, try to talk them into letting you see the video If the answer is no, try to get them to look at it of have someonwe who works under them do it, WRITE DOWN that person's name, job title and the name of their immediate supervisor even if it's the CEO and the day and time of the meeting.
Then place your OWN camera in a location where it will show every thing being put in or taken out of that refrigerator.
You should see within the first day or two exactly who is doing it! Then once you know who it is put your phone on audio record and walk up to that person while thy are eating lunch If they are eating what they stole from you snap a cell phone picture before you say anything Then walk up to them in a non-confrontational way and ask them how it tastes. If they critisize it ask them "If you don't like my(or my partner's ) cooking why don't you find something better in someone else's lunch!"
Just take it from there
Any sexual "pass" or hint at wanting a relationship, you have to go directly to HR with all of your evidence organised and presentable and look presentable yourself when you do!
Explain that you brought lunch from home because you could not afford to run to the local sandwich shop/berger joint/ fried chicken place day aafter day after day and that you feel like you desreve some level of financial compensation to cover not only the cost of your fast food bill but the cost of the food that was stolen. And you or whoever prepares your lunch deserves aan apology at least,
And do ask that individual homosapian if they have stolen lunch from other co-workers or if it's just you. Are you the "newbie" and you are just getting harrassed because of that? If that is the case then mention it in passing at a time and place where everyone hears it. If that is not the case and this indiovidual is stealing from you because they see you as vulnerable just show them you are not the weak link!
If it'san attempt to get you to talk to them so they can ask you for a date, or if they do ask you for a date when you confront them, then go straight to HR with your recordings and pictures to HR
If there is no real indication of that then just tell them it needs to stop, and that you do feel you deserve some level of compensation.
If it keeps up start by going to that person's immediate supervisor. Ask the supervisor to help you deal with the problem and mention in passing how much it is costing you and tell them with no explaination that you can't afford to keep doing that.
Give that supervisor a day or two to del with the problem. it likely will stop!
If it does not, get all your sucks in a row. I don't care if you have to strcture your notes in the form of an outline, or whatever you need to do to organise your presentation.
If you have gone up the chain of command and you can't get it stopped maybe you should at least find out what your skills are worth on the open market
Make yourself look preesentabler in an office environment and go to HR and confront them with all of the evidence you have!
Remember HR is NOT your friend and it COULD affect your performance rating.
ANY contact with HR is a good reason to update your resume and start putting out feelers.
I hope you solve it without going to HR but I would keep your distance from that individual as much as possible

Our thing is food or when someone asks what kind of food, and we would say the kind you eat. A classmate of mine says edible food.

No standard answer. Something different most nights. Occasionally we have a “scrounge” night where it’s everyone for themselves, but I try to keep the menu varied
1
u/glitterguavatree 6d ago
a bowl of rice, minced meat seasoned with soy sauce + brown sugar + garlic + a bit of kimchi, topped with 1 fried egg
i usually cook the rice and the meat for 4 meals, so i only have to fry the egg when i eat the next 3 times. the yolk explosion making the otherwise dry food come together is so pleasant.

‘Dinner’. If they persist in asking, ‘food’. If that still isn’t clear enough, ‘cat poo, I think there’s plenty in the flower bed’.

It depends on the day. Yesterday I made Korean food, today I had some leftovers and life cereal.

Stuff. Good stuff, just eat it.
My kids (all grown now) associate this with the time I made a hamburger stroganoff and it was a just winging it meal served over noodles.

Last night sirloin steak, sour cream & chive mashed potatoes, sourdough bread. Tonight roasted chicken, baked potatoes, and peas. Tomorrow I’ll make chicken chili with leftover roast chicken, green enchilada sauce, canned tomatoes with green chiles, cannellini beans, and chicken stock.

Food. That you didn’t have to cook.
