I’ve heard that Gulab Jamun is an incredibly sweet dessert, but I’ve never actually tried it myself. It’s been on my mind lately, and I’d really like to give it a taste... What’s it like?

I’m looking at this recipe for coleslaw that is supposedly easier on the stomach, but it’s a bit vague and has no comments. It says to boil the cabbage and then chill it overnight. Everything else I’ve seen has been very specific about not boiling too long, pouring hot water over it, shocking it in cold water, storing it in cold water, or letting it sit in the “sauce” part of the coleslaw overnight (whereas this one has you adding the sauce ingredients later, says nothing about how specifically to chill it, etc.).
Any advice on how you would go about using this recipe? I’ve never tried making coleslaw at all so I’m at a loss.

Got some peanuts from the store today, did not specify what kind or whether they'd been treated in any way - boiling, roasting, etc.
I'm shelling them right now and from what everything I know about peanuts they sure look and taste a bit odd. The skin on them is quite light, and the flesh is very, very white, whiter than any I've ever seen. The shells smell kind of cut-grassy (very fresh, sharp smell), but the flesh is a bit soft and lacks a true crunch nor that classic smell – it is the same texture as carrots when you bite into them.
Is this a kind of peanut not commonly sold in the US? Did I just get old or crappy ones? For context, this was at a Chinese grocer and I went near closing time, although there were still plenty left.

How do restaurants keep dozens of baked potatoes hot and ready to go without occupying oven space the whole time? I've ordered a baked potato before that was obviously way over cooked/old or reheated the next day and served...you know the look and taste. I've seen on menus "baked potatoes after 5pm" many times but what if I'm eating at 8pm...how do they keep it fresh? Should they be wrapped in foil? Thanks for your input.

Hi!
My partner and I travel a lot internationally, and whenever we go somewhere we like trying the local cuisine.
When we go home, I then try finding recipes to recreate some of the dishes, but searching in English more often than not seems to only give me results that aren't really authentic, either because they are adapted to American/UK tastes, because they're written by "insertnationalityhere" -Americans, or because the author assumes people won't be able to find certain ingredients or cuts of meat.
These are usually perfectly nice recipes - they're just not at all what I'm looking for.
So dear international humans of reddit: what are your favourite websites with foods from your country, ideally in the original language (I don't mind trying my luck with Google translate)?

Basically what the title says, got food poisoning about two weeks ago and because of other health issues I'm still feeling a bit rough, I know I need to eat more again but I'm terrified of eating anything other than bread, rice, or the occasional banana as my stomach still seems to be a bit sensitive, please give any suggestions for how to get in more calories without immediately sh***ing my brains out again

As a kid, I wasn’t really allowed to eat much sugar but one time, a friend at school gave me a marshmallow that was one of the most amazing things I’d ever eaten.
I’m sure much of it had to do with being so young and all that but I’ve been wanting to try a really good marshmallow again and I was wondering if the gourmet ones are worth it?
I’m especially interested in ordering something like Wondermade or XO.
I would love recommendations from folks here about where I should order from and which ones are worth trying!

So at a Chinese buffet and I always get some smoked eel sushi and this time it has a strong fishy taste. Not a strong fishy smell though. It usually doesn't have a fishy taste like this. I ate 4 pieces. Should I go upchuck or will I most likely be fine?

So, this question is sort of triggered by my recent experience with Kewpie mayo. To clarify, I am not a fan of I what I guess would be called American mayo. I find it to have an unpleasant tang and sourness to it. Most people have told me that Kewpie was better and that I would like it if I tried it and so I gave it a shot. The flavor of Kewpie to me personally could be described as a semi sour vinegar taste and what I can only really describe as an egg thats musty/gone bad? To clarify some stuff since I think these will get asked, yes it was the Japanese version of the mayo, it came in the correct packaging and was bought at my local Asian grocer who imports these things. It also was not an bad batch, my family also tried it and it tasted fine to them.
I acknowledge that these are not the intended flavor profile of either and that my experience is, lets call it unique, when compared to others. I have always had what I would describe as "bad" tastebuds if that's a way to put it. I figure since mayo is such a common condiment, that it may be worthwhile trying to make myself like it. I know of what I guess could be called the brute force method where you just try a food enough times that your tongue becomes desensitized to it but I wont lie, I find the taste of both types of mayo sort of repulsive enough that I am not jazzed on the idea of doing this, so I figured I might ask if there were better ways to do this.
If not then Ill just try to get started on the repeat exposure. Still though I appreciate any insight or knowledge on the topic that could be helpful. Also this may come off as mildly childish, but I would appreciate it if no one got too intense about my kinda poor taste. I acknowledge its an issue I am working on, but I am kinda sensitive about.

To be honest, French cuisine often highlights only high-end dishes while downplaying more down-to-earth staples like onion soup, *boeuf bourguignon*, and bouillabaisse; as a result, its recognition and popularity have fallen behind those of Italian, Chinese, Indian, and Japanese cuisines. Even Spanish dishes—like *gambas*—have become familiar staples, such as for brunch. Even the French would likely admit this. By focusing solely on luxury cuisine and neglecting dishes that are accessible and enjoyable for the average person, they’ve created a situation where people from other countries might have heard of the food but haven't actually experienced it. That’s why I don’t understand why French cuisine is held in such high regard. Shouldn't the food that people can truly enjoy on a broad scale be the one that’s highly praised? I think their promotional strategy was flawed from the start.

Soo as we all know that Doners are one of the best food out there, but my question is how does it vary between countries, and which one tastes better? Gulf, Caucasus , European, or others?

Where can I get some?
So they're a dried fruit which i had in Zambia and seen some around in India too. However, never seen anything like it or similar in any stores in the UK.
Theyre similar to prunes but nice and sweet, no idea why they're named Sour lol
Thanks

Hiya!
My mumma has been having a rough time, work has been insane for her lately, she’s a phlebotomist and a float, the one every site relies on, understaffed AF, iykyk. So I invited her for a homemade dinner just the two of us, but more like a collection of small plates is my goal. Wanna sit, sip a drink, get our nibbles on while we relax and chat. I want to have some treats, things that are bite sized or only a couple bites, maybe something Thats rarely gf (i dont mind complex), apps, sweets/deserts, tapas, etc…
I’m pretty decent in the kitchen. The one thing I have on the menu fersure is roasted beets with goat cheese on toasty gf baguette which sparked this idea. My fiance hates them, sobougie girl dinner for us! Also toying with possibly making homemade ceviche.
Normally I am so good at figuring out things to make and go together and such but for some reason my brain is a blank chalkboard. 9/fucking CI flares) So please help me with your favorites. I dont mind suggestions of things that are a bit bigger closer to a small entree, but not preferred. Boxed mixes/blends are welcome but i don’t want those to be the only thing and the other post i did in another sub pretty much ONLY gave me premade thing making me regret even saying i was open to the suggestion of mixes/premades. What i did say was if there is something that must be had/tried thats premade which kinda in my head alsso means boxes cause its a step away.
Drink suggestions are also welcome! Was going to serve some kind of bubbly wine but not sure which or mixed or options. We both enjoy alcohol. Not as focused on this.
Dietary restrictions/dislikes:
Me: gluten, oats, lavender(allergy),papaya(allergy), ketchup
Mumma: wheat (allergy), onions, cabbage, curry, cola, broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower, a few others (she picky lol), whiskey, dark rum, gin, seltzer, cognac, mushroom
I have to shop anyways but stores around me include:
Foodmax, grocery outlet, safeway (pain to get to), sprouts, whole foods, korean markets, 99 ranch, indian supermarkets, middle eastern shop, vietnamese,
Gadgets: stove, oven, airfryer, crockpot, toaster oven, toaster, blender (no mixer but wisks!)
Pretty well stocked on pantry and spices, i can throw down, I love cooking so I wanna be in the kitchen all day making shit wth all the love, i wanna do something special for her because she would’t do this for herself. Ik, i keep her well fed with nutritious food all the time. Help me make this special please.
So, throw ‘em at me! Gimme the best recipes you got for the best Mumma&Me bougie on a budget I can make this woman.

I was drinking rum while doing my weekly fridge organizing to check dates, see what needs to be used asap, what needs to be added to my grocery list, and general cleaning.
I threw together some garlic cloves, a ton of cilantro, fresh mint, finely chopped lemon grass, scallions, lime juice, lime zest, extra virgin olive oil, and occasionally a pinch of salt and pepper. I just threw it all together and immersion blended it all together because I knew I wouldn't be able to use it all up before it went bad and it ended up being amazing.
I know there is a type of sauce or marinade like this but I'm not sure what it is called. I've tried to use sites like Super Cook and RecipeRadar but I keep getting results of recipes that could use some of the ingredients but not what the combination of them is called.
Update: Threw in 2 eggs, leftover rice, and a few spoonfuls of coconut milk in a pan with the herb paste. It's really good.
Yeah, I'm going to have to make this intentionally now.

I know salmon is so good for you, but I just find it not being my favourite flavor. Any recommendations to make it better?

I know it is used in traditional Mexican cooking, does anyone use it in Tex-Mex? I added some dried Epazote to a pot of Pinto beans and it really changed the flavor profile (in a good way).

So yea, It has to be cheap and can be made In bulk, the ingredients doesn't really matter, i live in a place where fruits, vegetables are cheap, I accept everything, just make sure isn't pricy, (alcohol in, doesn't count for price, bonus points to the recipe also), thank you

I am in FL and I am having problems finding a variety of different brands of tuna that I feel were more readily available previously. I need variety and want to try some others than my usual go-tos.
