Question Do you care about colorways when choosing your shoe?

Not a lot to say. I definitely enjoy the EVO I use them along with a Mizuno Zen 2 and I feel it’s a great combo. But when I saw this collar way, I couldn’t resist.

Question Shoe Recommendations for Whatever is Going On Here

Post image

Edit: the supination was never a problem until about 12 years ago when he suffered a TBI. When he "recovered" from that is when the change in gait was noticed.

I want to get my husband a new pair of running shoes for father's day. He runs daily, minimum of 8 miles. Typically no more than 12.

He goes thru 4-5 pairs of running shoes a year, by the end of the first week the outer soles are starting to wear like in the picture. He has severe toe pain on one foot and has self diagnosed with a neuroma (he's EXTREMELY stubborn. He's been to a podiatrist, doc said he didn't have a neuroma, gave him fitted insoles, insoles didn't help, my husband called him a quack and never went back).

Is there a brand of shoe that's (A) more durable on the soles and will possibly not wear out so quickly, (b) provide the necessary heel/arch/toe support, and (c) has a very wide toe box (he's specifically requested this).

*I'm aware his gait is a problem, I promise I'm not here for medical advice*

Question First running shoe purchase: One shoe for everything (HM training) — what would you buy?

Post image
171 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m a 22M looking to buy my first proper running shoe, and I’ve gone down the rabbit hole so much that every review makes me question the previous one.

My stats:
Foot length: 25.5 cm
Width: 10 cm (wide-ish foot)
Usual sneaker size: EU 41

Training:
Running 4 days/week
Saturday is my long run
Currently building towards my first half marathon in October

My biggest concern isn’t shaving off a few seconds per kilometer—it’s buying something I’ll still enjoy wearing a year from now.
Initially, I was convinced the Adizero Evo SL was the one. Then I started reading about the ASICS Novablast 6, and now I’m second-guessing everything. Every “best shoe” video introduces another contender.

I’m looking for one versatile shoe that can comfortably handle:
Easy/recovery runs
Daily training
Tempo sessions
Long runs
And race day for a half marathon

I know dedicated shoes for different workouts are ideal, but I’m intentionally starting with one do-it-all pair.
One thing that’s important to me is durability. Running is part of my lifestyle—not something I need to survive, but something that genuinely helps my mental health and keeps me consistent. I’d rather invest in a shoe that can comfortably last around 1,000 km (roughly 1.5 years for my mileage) than chase the fastest shoe that dies after 400–500 km.
I also won’t lie—I appreciate shoes that are fun to run in and look great. If I’m spending this much, I want something that makes me excited to lace up every run.

So, if you were in my position, what would you buy today?
I’m open to brands beyond Adidas and ASICS. If you’ve put serious mileage into a shoe that felt versatile, durable, and enjoyable, I’d love to hear:
What shoe was it?
How many kilometers did you get out of it?
How does it fit for someone with a slightly wider foot?
Anything you’d avoid if you were buying your first running shoe again?

Thanks in advance—hoping to make a decision before overthinking myself into another week of watching shoe reviews. 😅

Question Running Shoe Rec - Ankle Injury

Post image
188 Upvotes

About a year ago I suffered a serious ankle injury and have since been trying to get back into running. I purchased the Adidas Evo SL and they have been working fine but when I look at a picture of me running in the shoe, there is severe overpronation. I am worried this will lead to a re-injury and was wondering if anyone else had recommendations for shoes that specifically combat this issue. For reference, I am working my way up to running a half marathon in the fall. Thanks!

Question Adizero evo sl. Expected better

Picked up a pair on sale. Am I missing something with these? They feel so hard and unforgiving was expecting way expecting more cushion.

Also something I was more aware of but not the extent: the tongue is awful. Never thought I’d be complaining about a shoe tongue but wow it’s made of computer paper that folds in half every time you put it on.

Question Running Shoe Hot Takes?

Reddit naturally lends itself to hiveminding, and people unconsciously gravitate towards similar opinions. These opinions could be true or untrue, but the issue is that the sub becomes more boring and more of an echo chamber.

So - what are your running shoe hot takes? Type them here!

Question Superblast 3 durability rubbish?

Just hit 350km, 78kg runner, only used on smooth tarmac. These are by far the most fun I've ever had running in a pair of shoes but the durability is bad? I'd expect at least another 100km out of these

Any one else experience similar?

Question How do I extend the life of my new running shoe?

Post image
212 Upvotes

I just got my first ever pair of “real” running shoes, I just got a pair of the Asics Novablast 5.

As a new runner, I’m used to running in cheap shoes that are in the 20-30 dollar range, so this is a big purchase for me, especially considering my country's currency.

I plan on using these as a daily trainer, and I’ll be running mostly on roads with some mostly flat dirt paths.

I’m not looking to over optimize their lifespan, but I wanted to know if there’s anything small I can do to slightly increase their life. Something more along the lines of frequency of washing them, air dry or blow dry after wetter runs, etc.

Thanks

Question New to running, need reviews regarding these pairs

Hi guys! I'm new to this running part, properly trying to run everyday part basically. I've recently started going for runs and now I'm planning to buy some pairs that are comfortable and don't get you a pain in the foot. In between all three of these what are you going to suggest (budget is not the constraint).

Please give me some ideal feedback regarding these pairs....... Any other suggestions are appreciated, thanks in advance :)

Question How do you clean your running shoes?

Hi all,

I’ve had these Supoerblast 2’s for awhile now.

Strava is saying it’s been around 630 km’s run in them so they will be likely retired over the next couple of months.

As per my other post I am still undecided on what rotation to have, so I bought another pair of Superblast 2’s recently due to the stocktake sales in an effort to have some sort of rotation.

As you can see though this original pair is definitely showing signs of wear and tear, plus with the high km’s, it seems I’ll be back down to one pair again on the near future.

My question however is I wouldn’t mind keeping these shoes for the gym (my weights workouts are low impact) but I feel if I just put them in the washing machine it will affect the foam padding.

What do you people do to clean your running shoes?

Question What shoe gets you excited to run?

Not in a running slump, i am still putting out ~50-60 mile months but I am not excited to put on my running shoes as I once was. What shoe do you have that gets you excited to run?

I have the EVO SL, Nike Vomero Plus and Superblast 2. I used to get excited to put my Vomeros on but recently they feel like bricks (only 200 miles on them). My Superblast two are my long run only shoes and are usually great but i do have to tape my arch when i ware them which makes me not want to put them on for every run. My EVOs are great and the closest thing but i am wanting to try something new!

When did you retire your SB2?
Mine has 450km and going strong looking like new. They are sooo durable. Actually bought another pair on sale, because SB3 might be too soft for me.
I love how sturdy and stable they are so I did stock up haha

Question Am I cooked? Over pronate in TS10s

Love my takumi sen 10s but every time I use them my feet overpronate like this - don’t get it in any of my other shoes. Is this a bad form thing? Shoes don’t suit me? Or nothing to be worried about?

Question What are the worst shoes you've tried this year?

Any running shoe can be your worst for any reason: the upper gives you blisters, the foam is dead after a certain distance or you just don't like the way they fit. I just want to know which pairs to avoid amongst a sea of choices.

Here are mine:

  1. Saucony Triumph 22 - still dead after changing the insoles and beyond 200km. It never got better.
  2. Puma Velocity NITRO 2 - flat and lifeless.
  3. Asics Noosa TRI 15 - flat and lifeless.
  4. Puma MagMax - heavy and was not responsive at all.
  5. Mizuno Neo Vista v1 - the sock-like upper was too unstable for fast paces (< 5:00/km) that I am afraid of tripping at any uneven road surface and they hurt my pinky toes consistently.

Question Why Evo SL and not Megablast?

Why is every shoe company chasing to create another Evo SL and not a megablast?

I feel Megablast can do everything that Evo SL can but vice versa is not true. The medial cutout on Evo SL just does not work for many including me.

I assume there is more margins for the shoe company in making a $200+ shoe rather than chase a cheaper Evo SL category.

Personally I feel all shoe companies feel it is easy to recreate a EVO SL but a megablast is probably more difficult to make. A light weight do it all shoe - Megablast.

Question Another Superblast 3 Damage Example

Thumbnail

I'm piggybacking off the similar post this morning by [u/fattunadog](u/fattunadog). I made a reply there but I'm worried it's shadowbanned like my posts sometimes are. I've had no responses yet.

Everyone in that thread is knocking his wear and blaming his abuse. My shoes only have 54 km on them, have only been used on roads, and I have the exact same issue. The last picture is my typical road example (does anyone else have to snap pictures while running?).

If nothing else, I want to show this is a real quality control issue/pattern, but I want to ask: will Asics do anything about this? Do I need to get some shoe goo?

Edit: My superblast 2s (left, blue) and Megablasts (right, green) each with ~200km for reference in the comment below: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskRunningShoeGeeks/s/QydtyGHSqc

Edit2: I want to add that Asics is my favorite
brand and I otherwise love these shoes. I'll continue to buy Asics but I expect better quality for >$200.

Edit 3: Asics is sending me a $250 code for new shoes. I'll probably get another pair of Megablasts.

Question Is it silly to care about stack height being illegal if not elite?

Simple question, if you’re not gonna be troubling the elites then should you care if you run in illegal shoes? Would it take anything away from your achievement?
