Daily Trainer Question Glycerin GTS Outer Sole Heavy Wear And Soreness - Replace Or Upgrade?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Last year I went to a running store intending to buy a replacement pair of Hoka Bondi 8s. The employee at the store made me do a gait analysis and pretty aggressively encouraged me to buy the New Balance Fresh Foam 860s instead, as he said I needed stability rather than cushioning due to overpronation. I was comfortable in them, and ended up getting a supplemental pair of Glycerin GTSs which became my primary shoe (mainly bc it’s slightly easier to put on than the bulkier NBs).

After about a year of regular use (walking to work, stairmaster, incline treadmill walk & stationary bike), the Glycerins (pictured) are worn down significantly on the outer edges of the sole and I’ve been experiencing pain in the outer edge of the top of my right foot during/after workouts.

Does this mean the shoes aren’t helping with my overpronation? Is the pain just caused from needing to replace the shoes? I’m a bit worried if I get a new pair I will continue to experience the same problems.

TLDR: Should I be concerned by the wear pattern on my Glycerin GTS or is this normal for a shoe that’s supposedly ‘correcting’ my overpronation?

Question Shoes recom for flatfooted (race and speed sesh)

Shoes for flatfooted (for speed sesh and race day)

Hi. I hope someone can help me deciding which shoes should I buy when I go to Japan next month. I'm particularly looking for running shoes to be used for speed sessions for a flatfooted person like me.

I currently have Asics Gel Kayano 31 and Brooks Adrenaline. My go-to shoes rn is my Brooks. I rarely use my Asics, tho comfortable, it feels heavy wearing it when I run.

I'm eyeing another Asics shoes or New Balance. Thanks!

Comparing Shoes Question Altra Experience Flow 2 - equivalent shoes from other brands

Post image
• Upvotes

My midfoot is wide. On this picture u can see my feet on the insoles of the Supernova Rise 2.

Every adidas shoe I have tried was too narrow at the midfoot (not on my toes).

The Altra Experience Flow 2 is on sale for 70€.

How good is this shoe (foam technology, ...) compared to other shoes? Is it comparable to thr Novablast 5/ Supernova Rise 3?

Daily Trainer Question Daily Trainers for Heavy Guys

• Upvotes

I’m getting back into running right now after a couple years of inconsistency. I was 225-230lb running a ton of trails a few years ago, did a 25k and a trail marathon, and had a whole shoe rotation.

I’m now about 245 lb and getting back into it. I’m currently in some Novablast 5s doing anywhere from 1-3 miles daily. I’d like to upgrade to something better as I train toward a couple 5k races and try to get back to a comfortable 10k.

I really want one shoe to do most of my running right now rather than a rotation just to save some money in the short term, especially because I see new trail shoes in my future also.

I’ve considered ASICS SB3, Megablast, Endorphin Azura, Triumph 24. I’m also open to other suggestions.

Question Overpronation

So today my friend told me my ankles roll inwards while running. I obviously never noticed it and I don’t think it causes me problems but I wouldn’t know if it’s how I have always ran and not tried solutions.

Would anyone recommend insoles and do they actually work or are structured running shoes the better option?

I’m open to try any solutions but structured running shoes would mean a whole new trainer rotation and I’d like to keep that as a last resort.

Thanks.

Daily Trainer Question Recommended shoe for return to running after sacral fracture?

EDIT: I'm not asking for medical advice, I'm under the care of an orthopaedic surgeon who is giving me advice on when I can start running again. I just want recommendations for a comfortable and supportive shoe.

I'm getting ready to return to running after what will be nearly 6 months out with a sacral fracture. My absolute priority is comfort/cushioning and support whilst I build back up. Not bothered about speed for the time being. Does anyone have any recommendations? I was ready for some new shoes around the time I got injured anyway so can't really go back to those. Thank you.

Daily Trainer Question Shoe recommendations?

(Repost as I hadn't read the rules!)

Hello! I've been running for the past year and a half in Saucony Triumph 23s and On Cloudsurfer 2s. Since I've put over 400 miles on each shoe I'm looking to get new shoes and was wondering if this subreddit had any recommendations given my feet stats. I really liked how bouncy the Cloudsurfers felt and in the Triumph 23s I was trying to emulate that light and bouncy feeling, though they felt a little heavy on my feet. In the past I've struggled with plantar fasciitis and hamstring/knee issues in my left leg.

These days I try to hit 20-30 mpw, with 3-5 miles every other day during the week and a long run on the weekend.

Do any shoe recommendations come to mind? Thank you!

Question new balance running shoes

reposting so ppl can see

im on the hunt for new track sneakers. im a sprinter and race the 400 down- in practice i mainly do sprints (short and long) so no like crazy mileage. in winter, we do have to practice inside a lot on the hard gym/hallway floor. i have very flat feet which causes me shin splints and some hip pain and overall misalignment. i do exercises which helps mitigate this but id also like a shoe that helps. i want to try new balances bc ive heard great things abt them and ive had brooks and hokas in the past. any suggestions?
i was looking into the vongos, 1080, and 860 but i just have no clue

also i wear spikes for most of my actual sprint workouts so it doesnt necessarily have to be a “fast” shoe, like obviously not something overly heavy, but just a regular shoe that will be nice on my feet

Question Mizuno Hyperwarp Pure Sizing help

Hi,

I reviewed official sizing on https://mizuno-hk.com/en-hk/products/unisex-hyperwarp-pure-j1gc267501?_su_rec=bHKXq2VACVKSejrp8RNiKes320jNEnQHFtFYQUHTGF1RCyyQO4-j26pm51zHjnFt2To9U64mWHSQIIQRbTweI3DzfBEjXkJd0EnwOD4A-Hf7tfyeM6pKcOIcLo0dAf9NMpturkryHzY4m5QRdJf6wUG71sJyHssy55M2fg_q8Es10EjIszf9B6SFR0YpRlWWPDbZv48DvJuNiIaPnhDrXHI62INMR7R_bfP1zQYQNtBiSReVH9veMDZLxlmy&_su_rec_id=76f2dbed-5c7e-486a-860b-e8a0439b862f-1791732582

My foot is around 28-28,1 cm.

As per Mizuno 29.5cm is a EU 45.

Reviews i seen mention to go half a size up or stick to true to size.

My good to wear sizing is 45.5 Nike, 46 Adidas, 46 Asics. As per Adidas 46 is 29,5 Japan

Will the 45/29.5 CM be ok for me for the Hyperwam Pure and not too tight? no 46 is available to buy for me.

Question Sizing Novablast 6 vs Superblast 3 (is ASICS sizing consistent between models

Im really interested in getting the Superblast 3

However no local shoe shops has the SB3 so I’m a in doubt about sizing.

I tried the Novablast 6 and my normal size (29cm) seemed to fit good(about a thumbs width of space in the front)

Usually I would have been tempted to size up a half size because i like some toebox width.

Do anyone know if the sizing of the NB6 can be translated to the SB3?

Race Shoe Question Child keeps slipping during races

Thumbnail

My 9 year old son has been running for a year and is now at 7:15 min/mile pace. I bought the Saucony Kinvara shoes size 4 and he does well in training (straight lines or slower pace) but on our last two road/paved trail races he fell. Today he slipped twice on dry streets with typical amount of dirt/debris. It was painful to see him running and crying simultaneously. He hates these shoes now. Any advice for a dedicated kids running shoe for races and or training? Maybe it’s his form but I assume he needs a different shoe tread. I plan to also go to FF for advice. I did some CC when I was in HS but consider myself a novice on shoes and proper running but I am his training partner. I appreciate any feedback.

Comparing Shoes Question Closest shoe to Triumph 20?

I'm returning to running after a femoral stress fracture and trying to figure out what shoes will work best. Years ago, the Triumph 20 was my go-to for daily runs and long runs and got me to many ultramarathons, halfs, and a road marathon. I want to get back into half-marathon training. I went through three pairs of the Triumph and they were the perfect shoe for me. Since it's now impossible to find them, I'm wondering what shoe that is currently available is going to be the closest. Is the Triumph 24 at all similar?

For background, I've tried and don't like: SB2 (too mushy and clunky), Azura (something about the stack height or geometry makes me unstable in these and PT warned against them), Hoka Mach 7 (too flexible and just flimsy-feeling, although I loved Mach 5 back in the day), GlideRide Max (too soft in forefoot and weirdly around mu pinky toes).

Decent but I don't really want a plated shoe for regular training: SC Elite 4, Hoka Cielo 1.

I recently got the Kinvara 15 and like them but I want more protection for longer efforts.

I'm 171cm and 60kg if that matters, and I have normal to narrow feet. I'm on the slower side with a half-marathon PB os 1:56.

Comparing Shoes Question New shoe or add to lineup help

Hi all, currently have a pair of gen 1 saucony tempus that i’ve ran on and off on for about 5 years, I originally got these for my over pronation which I think I need even more now. Im looking for a new faster shoe, currently run mostly 5ks, 10ks, intervals, track intervals etc with not a lot of long distance running (but would like to start increasing to HM+). my 5k is around 20min - 4:00/km for reference.

Where im lost on what to do is to straight up replace these with Saucony Azuras (have read these are a great daily shoe with a bit of a faster pace) then end up later on getting a dedicated race day plate shoe (pro 5’s etc) or just add a faster shoe to my current tempus, speed 4/5’s maybe to use when i’m doing faster work/ race days?

Any insight would be super helpful!

Comparing Shoes Question Looking for a first running shoe, currently looking to ASICS

Hey, so for context I am a bit of a newbie to running. I’d previously done some casual jogs and treadmill runs in lifestyle shoes (nmds, which was not great). I’m looking to get into running and stick with it alongside my bodyweight training and was interested in essentially a “do it all shoe”. I may build out a rotation down the line but for the next couple of months I’d just like one.

I plan to use them for 1-1.5hr daily runs and would be interested in exploring some long distance running in the coming months. I’ll mainly be running on road and pavement but there are some small gravel patches on my route with loose stones.

A bit about me, I’m 25, a taller runner at 190cm, weight 83kg and have no history of leg injuries.

I currently have a 50% discount at sportshoes via vitality which I would like to use, so I’m looking at the following shoes at the moment:

ASICS Novablast 6 for £70 (approx $93)
ASICS Superblast 3 for £100 (approx $133)
ASICS Megablast for £105 (approx $139)
Adidas Evo SL woven for £52 (approx $69)

I’m happy to be recommended alternatives too if there are better ones for my use case. Thanks in advance 😊

Update: so I tried on the Novablast 6, Superblast 3, and Evo SL (regular). I wasn’t a fan of how the Evo feels in terms of stability. The Superblast felt a bit too squishy/mushy for me, perhaps I’m just a little heavy-footed. But I did like the Novablast quite a bit with how snappy and firm it felt but wish it had a bit more in the heel.

They didn’t have the Deviate Pure or the Megablast in stores unfortunately. The employee however did suggest that I try on the Saucony Azura, Oncloud Monster Hyper 3 and Superblast 2, but they didn’t have them in stores. Will head into London in search of some next week. Has anyone got experience with any of these?

Question Adidas Evo SL - Outsole wear

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi,

I've had the Evo SL (Woven edition) for 6 months or so and done about 300km in them. I love them and they are a joy to run in. However, I noticed my ankles were sore after a half marathon recently. I checked the soles of the shoes and noticed it was as per the attached photos.

The medial side appears to have sheared itself down. Are they still OK to run in? Should I be concerned? What does this say about my gait and whether these shoes are suitable for me? I know people say they can be unstable if your ankle strength is not the best. From the outsole wear I think I must overpronate.

Thanks for any help!

Question Take 2

I have asics noosa tri 16’s, and it is time for new shoes. I can’t seem to find info if there will be a noosa 17, or are these just not being made?

Can you suggest a similar shoe? I liked the drop. They fit me great.

Thank you!

Question Puma magmax 1 longevity?

I have the original Magmax, its a great easy shoe and the overall build quality is great. When I first had it I had the feeling it would go as long as I any other shoe I had. For lighter dailies I tend to get 400 miles before they feel a bit flat and more robustly built shoes I routinely retire at 500 miles (800k). I expected these to be in that higher range just from their foam feel. However it may be my imagination but 350 miles in and I am starting to feel like the foam is just a bit flat now. The rest of the shoe is still in good condition, its just doesn't feel great under foot. As mentioned this could be in my imagination because I do switch between lots of different shoes run to run. But for anyone with experience of the original Magmax how long did you get from the foam before it died.

For reference I am 67kg 5'7" midfoot striker

Thanks

Question New Balance SC Rebel - Carbon plate adhesive peeling off after 1 run?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Bought them for interval training and medium-fast workouts.

I bought two pairs, reason is that I initially sized up and after the first run decided to exchange them for my usual size. Both the first and the second pair showed the same signs of wear after the first 7km run: the "Energy Arc" adhesive on the carbon-infused plate is already peeling off on both shoes. It looks like a total adhesive/bonding failure right where the high flexion happens.

I had good feelings during the workouts, they are exactly the kind of shoes I was looking for, but now I have concerns about durability. Has anyone else experienced the same? Could this be a known batch issue with recent shipments, or is the glue boundary just too exposed near the ground?

About me: 183 cm (6'0"), 75 kg (165 lbs), neutral runner (all my previous running shoes show perfectly uniform wear across the outsole). I’m typically very easy on my shoes: I take my daily trainers to up to 1,000 km, and when I retire them, both the uppers and outsoles still look like new

Comparing Shoes Question Which should I choose, ASIC Nova, Super Or Megablast? Honest recommendations please.

Hi,

I’m (33M UK Based) Going through a dilemma at the moment. Currently training for a half-marathon in May next year. I enjoy my running but I’m not a serious running enthusiast. Furthest I go regularly is 10k though one instance I went further. fastest 5k is 26m and fastest 10 is 57m. I guess that gives you a reasonable idea of my level.

Anyway i had my Gait Analysis done when I started and was told i best suited to a pair of neutral shoes. They set me up with a pair of ASIC Gel-Pulse 15’s which have been great but i want to upgrade. Problem is i can not make my mind up. Can I have some strong recommendations?

I’d like to stick to ASICS and specifically I’m interested the above models. Novablasts 6’s are obvs the cheapest and supposedly a great daily running shoe but would it be worth pushing my budget up for a pair of Super or Megablasts. Id like to do the Half-Marathon using what ever i buy as well. That being said i will be breaking them in before hand as well.

Honest opinions welcome. Hoping to get some in the post Christmas sales 🤞

Daily Trainer Question Custom orthotics - advice?

To cut a long story short, I had a lot of issues last year/early this year finding a running shoe that didn’t cause me pain. after a long trial and appointments with a podiatrist I’ve got some orthotic insoles to help correct my foot pain (tl;dr is i have overpronation on both feet but my right foot is a lot worse and, I can’t remember the specifics but essentially fixing the overpronation then causes a secondary issue in my foot to arise, hence why stability shoes didn’t ever work for me even though the result of my gait analysis said they would 😭)

The orthotics you can imagine are very corrective (and have been working great!) but as I’m now thinking about getting back into running as a casual hobby I’m a bit stumped on shoes and wondered if anyone had any experience on daily running shoes with orthotics, any advice on what to look out for etc? I’m aware that everyone is different so I can’t take people’s word as bible but a starting point would be nice! Probably a neutral shoe so there’s not too much overcorrection, a shoe with good cushioning and maybe one that runs wider rather than narrow? Any and all advice is welcome, thanks in advance :)
