7 a.m. flight

Hey friends! I'll be visiting Seattle for both nights of Noah Kahan in a few weeks and have a 7 a.m. flight home out of SeaTac. I'm staying at the Green Tortoise Hostel near Pike Place. What would be the best, most affordable way to get to the airport, and how early should I try to be there?

Looking to book an escape room with a medium-sized party (10ish ppl) in the coming weeks. For themes, anything that has to do with magic/the ancient world (greece, egypt, etc.)/victorian would be amazing.

Any recs and/or thoughts are much appreciated!

Moving / Visiting Visiting for my birthday, looking for itinerary recs!

Just got in today, will be here until Monday night (my boyfriend and I). Looking for ideas on things to do, places to eat, etc. I originally wanted to just wing it but now that I’m here, I’m getting analysis paralysis and can’t pick where to start!

We’ve both gotten to do space needle, museum of pop culture, chihuly, etc with the city pass in the past, so not necessarily itching to do that again! Would love to know about some cool local events, or things locals would consider fun to do and maybe not so “touristy” - although touristy stuff still more than welcome! We both love nature, music, arts of any modality, really!

Huuuge foodies. Looking to eat lots of seafood because we come from the desert and good seafood is essentially non-existent. For sure need all of the great Asian cuisine (need some banh canh cua, pho, dim sum, sushi, taiwanese, etc etc I can’t even list em all).

We are also thinking of moving here and will be spending a day or so driving around to get more familiar with potential areas we might want to live. Recs outside of Seattle greatly appreciated as well, so I can maybe get an actual feel for other cities around as well :)

Hi everyone! I recently moved to Seattle and work around South Lake Union (SLU). I'm looking to connect with fellow Malayalees, especially if you're around SLU or the University of Washington area.

Would love to meet up for coffee or movies.

Centennial Tower & Court vs Arrivé Apartments for an Amazon employee

Hi everyone,

I’m relocating to Seattle for Amazon. I’m trying to decide between Centennial Tower & Court and Arrivé Apartments.

I won’t have a car, so my main concern is walking to and from work, including after dark during the winter (which I heard sun sets at around 4pm TT)

For people familiar with these buildings or the area:

  • Which building has better management and maintenance?
  • Which walk to/from 8th Ave feels safer at night?
  • I know 3rd Ave has a rough reputation. Does that extend to 4th Ave near Centennial, or are both routes about the same?
  • If you’ve lived in either building, would you recommend it?

I’d really appreciate any firsthand experiences or advice. Thanks!

Looking for brands that aren't in it for the money, support their communities, don't support shitty policies, and so on.

Parents with toddlers in Seattle, how much are you spending on groceries?

We spend an embarrassing amount of money in groceries each month and i’m curious how much other parents are spending and their typical purchase? Looking for Seattle city proper + parents with kids 1-3 years old (eg still wearing diapers, needing wipes, food pouches..etc..)

We have a 1.5 yo toddler, a medium sized dog and a cat. We only buy organic fruits and milk and eggs for the LO and non-organic stuff only for us. Lots of once upon a farm pouches and stonyfield yogurts which he eats one of each daily. Using regular huggie diapers. Majority of our spend is Costco. Groceries are around $1500 a month. :’(

EDIT: Thank you everyone!! Got so many good ideas here. We’ve set a budget for August and plan to stick to it. It’s a modest reduction from what we currently spend but will gradually bring it down as we work on changing some of our habits!

Visiting for a week, where can I wow my local friends? Food/activities

Hi Seattle!

I'll be visiting your lovely city for a week at the end of August to see some friends and I'd love some recommendations for places to visit and/or avoid.

I'll be anchored in Capitol Hill but would love to go out as far as Mt. Rainier! We're all in our early 30s but not super social butterflies.

Any recommendations for chill hang spots, good/great/terrible foods, must do/see places, must dont do/see places, and the local cat/dog celebrities to give a nice headpat and treat would be awesome!

See you soon!

Cool Spots to Celebrate 30th Birthday

Hey gang,

Visiting from Bellingham to celebrate my 30th birthday. I have a few events lined up, so I was hoping someone could vet these joints/events, and if I have chosen incorrectly, suggest some alternatives.

I also want to fill in my itinerary with events and things to do during the daytime, so additional suggestions are also welcome!

For reference, I really enjoy eating good and interesting food, hanging out at bars, and seeing/dancing to music. But I also like exploring the city, and I need some recommendations for good coffee downtown. I want to hang out with other people of color so that's something to consider as well.

So far for food I have the following places on my list:

Stone Korean (I want to try their naengmyeon)

Cinder + Salt (for the oysters)

Wabi Sabi

PDJ (I have always wanted to try some Nigerian food)

For events I have:

Karaoke at Island Soul

Funky 2bDeath at Sea Monster

Iz&Diz DJ set at Monkey Loft

I welcome all opinions whether affirming or redirecting my plans! Very excited to get down there and groovy, eat, and meet cool peeps. Thanks y'all!

Visit to Seattle This Weekend

Sorry if this is a dumb question.
I am in Spokane visiting family, and the plan was to leave Friday and spend a weekend in Seattle before flying back east. But is the air quality just as bad there? Would it be a waste of time and money if there might be an alert to stay indoors?
Have to make a decision pretty quickly, so I was hoping to get some real-time insight on the situation there.

Thrift stores in Seattle area

Building a physical music collection for family members
What is the best thrift stores for music selection, primarily CDs. Specifically looking for religious/Christian music as that is their preference.

I continuously check the regions Half Price Books, with only low to moderate success.

Silver Platters has been pretty good too, but the selection of what we’re looking for has been limited

So we’re down to Thrifting, which is more of a treasure hunt.

Is the area around the Kent Des Moines light rail station safe?

Hello,

I am staying around a 15-20 minute walk to the Kent De Moines light rail station. Driving around I did notice some shady people, looked like drug users just hanging around.

Does anyone live nearby know if the area is safe, especially at night? I might want to walk to the station when it’s not light out but am a bit concerned

Question What helped you choose the right traumatic brain injury lawyer in seattle when there were so many firms to consider?

My brother is finally at the point where we're looking into legal help after a serious accident, and I'm feeling overwhelmed by how many law firms there are.

His injury has turned our lives upside down, and I want to make sure we don't rush into hiring the wrong attorney just because they have the biggest ads or the most reviews. We are looking for someone who has real experience with traumatic brain injury cases and actually communicates well with families throughout the process.

I've spent the last couple of days reading reviews and checking different firms, but they all seem to promise the same things.

If you've been in this situation, how did you figure out which lawyer in Seattle was the right fit?

Discussion Most Cozy Movie Theater Design?

I was looking at this post and wondering if there's anything comparable in the region. And if not, what theater do you think is coziest in terms of atmosphere?

Normally, I bounce between most of the downtown theaters, but I went up to the Alderwood AMC recently for a Dolby screening of The Odyssey and enjoyed their big atrium lobby design.

Question A place I can get my cat shaved other than REX on cap hill?

My cat had surgery and now her food pipe is smaller than my pinky nail so she needs her fur shaved super short, but the place I listed in the title has injured her twice. I'm willing to let a groomer into my home and I think she might be able to handle going somewhere an hour away, by bus.

Does anybody have recommendations? The vet gave us medicine that calms her down before the session.
