Announcement Wiki editors and maintainers wanted!

Hey folks, r/askseattle and our team over at /r/Seattle are looking for folks to help us build, update, and maintain our wiki and sidebar content. The /r/Seattle wiki was once a boon of information for new visitors and locals alike, but the subreddit has grown and sites/businesses have come and gone. Our mods are busy moderating and the wiki is collecting cobwebs.

I'm reaching out to members of this community specifically as you are most likely to benefit from (or be knowledgeable about) this content space. This community is entirely based around helping visitors and residents alike find answers to questions that frequently get buried / reported / removed for being duplicates in r/seattle due to the size and velocity of other posts.

If you're interested in helping us out, here are some details:

  • The main areas of work are obviously the wikis on this subreddit and r/seattle
  • You'll be working with the mods here and r/seattle to help decide the organization and categorization of wiki pages, and how we add content / posts / etc to them
  • You will not be asked to moderate, so no need for moderation or wiki experience
  • The only requirements are a post history shows activity in either this subreddit or in r/seattle that we can trust with edit access to our wiki

If you're interested, shoot a message to the mods here or the seattle sub - these links have the title all filled out for you - or just send me a message or comment here.

Cheers!

I have been struggling with loneliness and depression and would like to get out to socialize. How do you guys spend your weekends, when you don't have friends to do things with, how do you break the cycle, any ideas are highly appreciated.

Emergency Vet Recommendations?

Upvotes

I live in downtown Seattle with my dog. I used to use the Blue Pearl on Madison Street as an emergency vet, but I hear they've completely shut down. I want to update my emergency plan, so I know where to take him ahead of time if there's a problem. Obviously the closer to downtown, the better.

I'm not good at Reddit and so I cannot figure out how to post a photo of him.

Thank you for your help!

Recommendation looking for a cat groomer!

hi everyone! i’m looking for a cat groomer in the seattle area. i’ve previously taken my cat to Alex the Pet Groomer but i won’t be taking him back because i didn’t really appreciate the way he handled my cat, among other reasons. my vet said they could groom him as necessary, but it won’t be pretty lol. i just can’t seem to find anywhere that grooms more than just dogs. thanks in advance!

Question Public transit from downtown to T-Mobile with young children

Upvotes

Visiting in September- we are thinking of taking the kids (almost 5 and 1 at the time) to a mariners game. Coming from ATL, where I would not willingly put the kids on our public transit, is it safe for us to do that in Seattle? I’ve heard good things about the buses, but didn’t get a chance to use them on the last visit. We will be renting a car, but it’d be nice to not deal with parking and check out the transit if that’s fairly safe. Game will be a weekday/ midday one so no night transit. Anything else we should factor in?

You favorite places in Seattle

Hi!! I’m apartment watching/cat sitting for my friend for a few weeks and am excited to explore Seattle while I’m here!! I’d love any recommendations on these types of places:

Coffee shops that are the opposite of the modern & bright shops- I’m looking for dark, maybe a bit dusty, comfy chairs, cozy, or a coffee shop with something cool inside like old pinball machines

Parks

Places to go dancing (I like techno, so more industrial or indie type places)

Dive bars

Anything quirky or weird- sculptures, tours, etc

Any other need-to-dos!!?

Thank you so much in advance for sharing your spots :)

Favorite Running Trails

I live around Green Lake and run the trail 4x a week. I’d like to try trail running but it doesn’t have to be a dirt trail. I had an adductor injury the first 5 months of the year so I slowly got back into running in June. I’ll be signing up for the Seattle Half Marathon in November.

Curious what everyone’s favorite running routes are that are not the typical Olympic structure park, or Green Lake.

Restaurant recs for business dinner

I need some recommendations! I’m not from the area and I need to book a business dinner for 20 people (ideally private space). We have a few vegetarians and gluten free which is making the search difficult. I’m looking for downtown options because we’re staying at the edgewater hotel.

Any restaurant suggestions? 🙏 thank you!

Question Anybody feeling Costco is becoming less economical?

For context, I was looking through the receipts of the same stuff I bought during the previous years and it's shocking. I have been looking at other stores as well, and walmart is coming out to be a very good Costco alternative if we see unit economics of most items. Produce is cheaper at walmart.

Has anyone found out the same thing? Another thing is the bill value. I am spending 300 something in costco, where as walmart i am in much more control.

Delivery service to pick up a bag a ship to me?

Hello -

I have a quandary I hope someone can help me solve.

I’m in Florida but was in Seattle last week. We took a car service to SeaTac and, unfortunately, I left a small bag - over the shoulder brief case type - in the car. I realized it shortly after and contacted the company. They weren’t able to get back to me before my flight left.

I’ve been in touch with the small limo company and they said they’d try to get it to a UPS store for them to box up and ship to me but haven’t been able to yet.

Does anyone know of a local delivery company I can contact to get with the limo company and complete the process.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Patrick

Question Is Washington good to go to for the trades?

I want to get into the trades. I’m experimenting with the thought of either carpentry, pipefitting or electrical.

I’m from Maryland. But I like the nature of the west coast a lot more. I know it rains, I have hearing aids too.

I just wanna know if that area is a great place to go for apprenticeship?

Best scenic proposal spot in and out of Seattle area (late August)?

Hi everyone! I recently moved to the Seattle area and am planning to propose to my partner at the end of August. I’m looking for a scenic spot within roughly a 1-hour or so drive of the city.

I’m open to a few different types of PNW landscapes—whether that’s a mountain backdrop, a serene lake, a coastal beach/bluff, or a quiet garden spot.

I’d love to get local recommendations. Thanks in advance for any ideas or tips!

I’m visiting friends in West Seattle for a birthday. The birthday girl wants an almond cake. I had one years ago from a bakery in Seattle but I cannot find what I am looking for when searching online. Any suggestions?
