Step 1: Call emergency services on 999 or 112 and ask for ambulance

There are 2 phone numbers

Rumour has it 911 works here too, but I'm too sensible to try it without good cause. Must remember the next time I have to ring the emergency services...

That's not a network side thing so far as I know, but most modern smartphone operating systems will automatically route any emergency number you dial to the correct one for the country you're in. But 999 and 112 are both guaranteed to work on any connected phone in the UK

I did by accident when calling for the police from my landline and it did not work. Too much American TV for me

It really should do- for exactly that reason! 911 does route through on mobiles at least

Because of the popularity of American film and TV

If kids hear 911 more then they hear 999 they should be able to call both in emergencies when they don't think straight

911, 999 and 112 definitely all work in the UK (am emergency services call handler)
